That MIL has bought DS an expensive Thomas the tank Train set after I told her we didn't want it?

She has wanted to buy him one for a while. I told her we would prefer Brio, or even a cheaper one that isn't branded.
This morning I got a delivery of a full train set and various trains and accesories.
He is delighted of course, and loves it but I am angry she has spent too much money and gone against our expressed wishes.

Am I just ungrateful?

Really get some perspective... I have 3 DDs and have lost count of the number of barbies/ Bratz/ HSM junk I've had to get rid of. You just need to educate your children about branding etc as they grow older so they can make their own decisions in an aesthetic and ethical fashion. At this stage, my DCs have earnest discussion about Playmobil (toy of choice) and collective guilt/ responsibility (seriously!)

And maybe your MIL is a controlling old bat but she is your DS's GM and her relationship with him is independent of, and separate from, your relationship with her and unless it is actually harmful, learn to live with it.

My MIL puts sugar on the DCs cereal, feeds them nasty biscuits etc and I bite my tongue, remembering the glory of forbidden sugar on cornflakes that my GM gave me when I visited.

The article below may help everyone gain some perspective on the deconstruction of childrens' stories... despite my nickname, it still makes me laugh 3 years after reading it..

what the heck???

Chequers · 03/09/2008 16:25

My IL's were told not to buy any Thomas stuff for their grandson (called Thomas). I thought it made BIL and SIL sound really rude and ungracious. Sorry. Understand your pov on the size issue though.

You feckers, I expressly asked that this wasn't bumped.

I'll be off to polish my lovely non branded fair trade wooden toys.

Kerrymum you clearly just don't like me, why?

Please enlighten me?

I didn't bump this (but obviously am now)... please read my post and follow the link and forget about it...

BTW, I presume you've worked out that ELC is the most fantastic branding exercise of all time?

Why would it. I actually asked in the hope anyone interested would just read it, and not bump.

But you bumped, without even posting on the other thread.

I bumped it as a joke!

Didn't realise it would offend you TDWP.

Sorry

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 04/09/2008 12:26

Okay, sorry.

I'm not sure why I'm even bothered tbh.

head firmly in hands at the realisation I've just bumped this again, after whining at the bumpees.
Oops.
