Fleece bed linen. Just no…

Looking to get our teenage daughter some new Christmas bedding. Everywhere I look there seems to be an awful lot of winter bedding which is fleecy. 100% polyester.

is it just me who finds this a bit gross? I can’t get past how hot & sweaty it would be lying under a fleece duvet cover! Imagine how often it would need washed! 😮
I get that it would be cosy to crawl under at first, but to sleep under it all night?????
Yes? No?

I agree..... I'm all for brushed cotton but fleece 🤪

Laiste · 27/10/2023 14:49

My 8 year old loves hers, but it wouldn't be for me 😅

Sirzy · 27/10/2023 14:50

Ds had one last winter and loved it. It only goes on when the temperature drops

Laiste · 27/10/2023 14:50

But i should add - DD's a chilly bod and sleeps in PJs. I like to sleep nude and i think that makes a difference. Bare skin against the fleece would be sweaty.

Laiste · 27/10/2023 14:51

And yeah - only the coldest months.

TheHawkisHowling · 27/10/2023 14:52

It's horrible in the summer but definitely cosy in the winter.

TruJay · 27/10/2023 14:52

Oh we love ours, sooooo cosy. Kids get so excited when I say it’s time for them to come out haha

I love flannelette sheets too, had those as kids to keep warm. Makes me feel snug thinking about them.

CranfordScones · 27/10/2023 14:52

I saw some in the supermarket yesterday. Not for me. Fleece blanket on top of duvet when it's really cold.

But each to their own...

My kids love their fleecy fitted sheets in winter. I however bought a fleecy duvet cover set for our bed….yeah it’s been on once and will never be back on. Totally sweltering, just awful.

deWinterSolstice · 27/10/2023 14:53

Could you place a cotton top sheet between the person and the fleece?

Mumaway · 27/10/2023 14:55

🤢
The thought of fleecy sweaty bedding.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 27/10/2023 14:57

Eugh no. I can't even sleep under regular poly cotton sheets, they're horrible!

ChienneDesFromages · 27/10/2023 14:59

Ooh, no! That wouldn't do for me at all, or my kids who both run hot. It would be all staticky and sweaty too.

But surely the tog of duvet makes more of a difference than the material of the sheets, for warmth?

Brushed cotton sheets are lovely. In the winter, I have a brushed cotton undersheet, with a thick goose down duvet in a linen cover. When it's really cold, my warm cotton pyjamas and cashmere socks come out too. It's cosy, comfy, unsweaty and generally lovely.

CuntRYMusicStar · 27/10/2023 15:00

Ds has fleecy sheets and a fleecy duvet but he turns into an ice cube when he's tired, his body temperature just drops. He also likes to sleep in just pj shorts! So the warmer bedding works well for him. Far too warm and sweaty for me

maldivemoment · 27/10/2023 15:01

You lot have reassured me!

Definitely YES to brushed cotton/flannelette 👌🏻

Reading this has reminded me of the lovely brushed cotton 'candy stripe' sheets i had when i was a kid ....

i wonder if you can still get them?

BarborousBarbra · 27/10/2023 15:05

I have a set and I don’t get too hot or sweaty under it. In fact, I had my electric blanket on under it as well last night! Suppose it depends how hot you generally get at night.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 27/10/2023 15:06

I love it, and my electric blanket but I'm always cold.

DeadBugMountainClimber · 27/10/2023 15:07

I can see that they are probably useful if you are trying to keep kids warm overnight in poorly insulated houses, during the cost of living crisis. They probably dry pretty quickly

Kokeshi123 · 27/10/2023 15:08

Gross gross gross.

I stayed at someone's house and they had this. She is a clean person, but those sheets smelled of feet. I think that the artificial fibers promote sweat and then the sweaty smells don't wash out properly.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 27/10/2023 15:08

Fleecy is great for people of a sweaty disposition!!

When I had nightsweats I transitioned to fleece bedlinen deliberately because it absorbed the sweat better. Non-fleecy cotton bedding just got soaked through and stuck to me or flapped around me like a wet sail on a ship's mast. But fleecy bedding stayed relatively comfortable for the rest of the night.

Had to be washed first thing in the morning of course, but then so did smooth bed linen.

Don't have the sweats anymore but still prefer fleecy because it is warm as soon as you get in, rather than having to be warmed by your body. Much better for my icy feet.

It isn't warmer overall, just in those first few minutes until body heat has kicked in.

maldivemoment · 27/10/2023 15:08

Jeez @BarborousBarbra fleecy bedding AND an electric blanket! Hats off to you…

I loved those sheets! I remember playing a candy striped shepherd in the school nativity okay once 😆
