Would be such a shame not to continue the discussion.

Could never vote labour

Has anyone said you should?

In Surrey the Lib Dems are the most viable alternative to the Tories in many seats.

People who are fed up with the constant self praise and total inability to see another point of view from the Opposition supporters ?

Seriously?

You vote because it's against how other voters seem to behave?

Beyond bizarre.

ginasevern · 25/10/2023 14:37

I am so sick of hearing "but at least the tories know what a woman is" - no they don't and since when have they cared anyway. They've also turned the country to shite. But I suppose there's no cure for stupid.

shouldhavetakenmorenotice · 25/10/2023 14:53

I've voted for pretty much everyone over the years. I don't have much faith in any of them.

DH has worked in the public sector for forever and is confident none of them have much of a positive effect, largely due to the way the systems work and how difficult it is to change anything.

So I'll be waiting for manifestos to come out and picking whoever looks like they'll do the least ineffectual meddling.

JaneyGee · 25/10/2023 14:54

Well I certainly won't voting Labour. No matter what they say, I simply cannot trust them on immigration. Last year, 1.2 million people entered the UK and 560,000 left. That means our population increased by 600,000 through immigration alone – basically the population of Manchester. Plus, of course, that doesn't include illegal immigrants. If you add in illegals, it's probably closer to a million extra people.

This issue isn't going away. The migration crisis hasn't even started yet. Africa has the highest birth rate in the world. In fact, the African population will double by 2050. (It is predicted to hit 2.5 billion by mid-century.) When climate change gets worse, that vast young population will head for Europe, causing unimaginable chaos.

I simply cannot trust Labour or the Liberals on this issue. Their response is always "build more houses". Where?!!! I live in the Essex countryside, and my village has been ruined. Developers have even hacked down my local woods to build a hideous new estate. We're not talking about a few new houses, we're talking massive estates, including blocks of flats. The traffic is now so bad I hardly bother to go out at the weekends. And when I complain, people on the left roll their eyes and call me a NIMBY. But what they don't seem to get is that us so-called 'NIMBYs' aren't rich aristocrats living in huge Georgian mansions. We're ordinary people on middle to low incomes who just want peace and quiet.

So who do you trust in immigration?

I can think of one bit of the public sector that seems to chance when we elect different parties.

I'm never sure if the people who say things like that are more easily manipulated than most, or not acquainted with the facts, or just looking for a peg to hang the way they plan to vote anyway onto.

Even some of the red-trouser brigade round here are voting Labour. I never thought I'd see the day. Actually our local Tory MP is a decent man. Works hard. I feel a bit sorry for him, but I think it's just time for a change.

It's a sad indictment of the current Tory party that I can't think of a Tory MP I would describe that way.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 25/10/2023 14:24

People who are fed up with the constant self praise and total inability to see another point of view from the Opposition supporters ?

That would be extremely revealing about how controlled by their emotions that person is and their moral fibre concerning patriotism and personal responsibility wouldn't it?

Abra1t · 25/10/2023 15:10

There are decent people in pretty well all the parties. They may be the quiet people doing the plodding committee work that doesn’t get the headlines. Or the MPs who persist in sorting out constituents’ problems.

Have you seen what Labour have achieved with the waiting list in Wales lately?
A blueprint for Labour across the UK, according to Sir Kier.

SiobhanSharpe · 25/10/2023 15:13

YesshesaidyesiwillYes · 25/10/2023 09:46

Conservatives are currently the only party that know what a woman is. Greens and LibDems are entirely captured by trans ideology. I don’t think a man can ever be a woman. I believe we have to find a better solution than women ceding sporting podiums, places on an all female shortlists etc.

I may well hold my nose and vote Conservative. Trans ideology is authoritarian nonsense.

Me too. I have spoilt my ballot in the past but really don't like doing that.

verdantverdure · 25/10/2023 15:17

gegs73 · 25/10/2023 09:32

Both my parents and in laws always vote conservative. Both say that next year they are going to spoil their ballot paper.

Good bless them but I'd rather they voted for whoever can win in their constituency who isn't a Tory.

My parents got all gung-ho about the state of the country and voted Labour in the local elections instead of Tory, but if they and a few others had voted Lib Dem instead then the Lib Dens wouldn't have come second by a small margin allowing the Tory to win.

As long as they still win the seat the Tories won't care about people not voting or spoiling the ballot.

SiobhanSharpe · 25/10/2023 15:33

Nope, I don't trust Labour one little bit not to throw women under the bus just to look good and 'right-thinking' to those who parrot the "trans women are women" mantra.
I left the Labour party over this issue at the height of the 'no-debate' furore; frankly nothing I have seen stated by senior shadow ministers more recently has given me any reassurance that things have changed fundamentally within the party. It's still captured by the (mainly male) TRAs.
And most shameful of all is the utter hypocrisy because how many of them truly believe that trans women ARE in fact women?
If there is a Social Democrat candidate standing in my constituency (unlikely, I know) I would give him or her my vote because at least the SDP has a clear and unambiguous policy on the gender ID issue.
Can't say the same about Labour.
This is fundamental for me and attempts to bad mouth me as stupid or ill informed do not impress one little bit. I am neither, I just disagree with you. And this is the problem with the gender idealogues.

I'm sure there are. I just can't think of any Tories I would describe that way currently.

To be fair I only know about a third of them probably, most likely if they are a minister or family members have lived in their constituencies.

My parents have lived along the south coast for many years and their MPs have been Christopher Chope, Desmond Swayne and Julian Lewis. The latter was very good on the detrimental consequences for locals of a proposed container port in Dibden Bay back in 2015 but rather quiet on the topic of the Southampton Enterprise Zone or "Freeport" owning the New Forest National Park and a large section of the M3 south of Winchester.

A couple of years ago I might have thought of Greg Hands, Tom Tugendhat, Huw Merriman, Robert Halfon and Alex Chalk but their reputations have been destroyed since 2019.

Abra1t · 25/10/2023 15:36

I certainly agree that the Tories lost a lot of the MPs I liked post-Brexit...

And neither of us mentioned Labour.

AngryBird6122 · 25/10/2023 15:44

I usually vote Conservative

I won't be doing so this time around as it is time for a change. But, I don't know who I will vote for at the moment.

The problem I have with the others is they are too far left in some areas that are important to me (trans/womens rights and immigration)

I think not acquainted with the facts, because if they were, they wouldn't touch the Tories with a bargepole. CCHQ invented the "at least the Tories know..." slogan and it seems to have stuck. Anyone who takes a wee look will see its just another Tory lie in an ocean of lies.

They have done so much damage to women.Angry

SiobhanSharpe · 25/10/2023 15:45

I found this on another thread and it sums up how I feel about the Labour leadership and a possible Labpur government.
"....(Keir Starmer) thinks that some men are women just because they say so. He's a liar. If he lies about that simple fact I don't think he can be trusted to run the country.
All that he has to do is draw back on this and come up with some policies that will reassure me and other women that he won't throw women under the bus to appease the purportedly small proportion of men who say they are women and their supporters. But he won't.
It would also be good if he would make it clear that body modification is not appropriate for children and won't buy some men the right to access women's spaces. But he won't. "
Thanks to @lifeturnsonadime

When Labour get in, it really will be a nice change to be on the other side of the political sitting target. Finally all of Labour's decisions can be scrutinised and ridiculed for at least the next 5 years.

Bring it on, I will be glad of the relief 😆
