Would be such a shame not to continue the discussion.

I'm loving it!

Its like a nightly soap opera, i'm sure they'll be a murder next!!!!

They also keep talking about the ‘silent majority’. However, I actually think it’s a very noisy minority of GB News viewers and Express readers.

Alexandra2001 · 14/11/2023 19:38

If there was a silent majority, they Tories would be higher up in the polls and they'd do better in by elections.

I live in a very Tory area...... the prediction is the Tories will win again here but even so, its surprising the number of Tories i know who are fed up with roads, NHS, GPs Sewage and the infighting.

verdantverdure · 15/11/2023 16:04

Wouldn't it have been fiscally responsible for the U.K. government to check U.K. law before giving £160 million of our money to Rwanda?

I'm so sick of the waste and the debt of a Tory government.

Of course it would. They’re not remotely bothered, just busy looking for loopholes now. Odious creatures.

Can you imagine the press if a Labour government had do that!

Passepartoute · 16/11/2023 14:19

I do wonder whether members of the government actually listen to each other, or indeed put any thought into what is coming out of their own mouths. Cleverly was on the radio this morning banging on about what an urgent problem the small boats is, and how they've been working hard putting in place another treaty with Rwanda and planning emergency legislation. It doesn't seem to have occurred to him for one moment that the electorate might just think it more urgent to sort out the horrendous waiting lists in the NHS and all those crumbling hospitals and schools, or the equally horrendous court backlog, or the dreadful state of social care in this country, or SEN reforms that actually hold people accountable for ignoring their legal duties, or actually putting in place an efficient asylum processing system that would negate the need for the whole Rwanda nonsense.

It was impossible to escape the conclusion that the only reason this was urgent was because Sunak perceives it as a vote winner and he was desperate to try to convince right wingers that he has the same priorities they do and isn't dependent on Sewerella to put them into effect.

If only they looked at the polls once in a while. Virtually nobody cares about small boats or Rwanda going ahead. Fiddling while the UK crumbles.

Zonder · 16/11/2023 16:11

They said this on the news last night. The public are far more concerned about the CoL crisis than small boats, not surprisingly. And I don't think the average Joe on the streets believes the myth that the crisis is caused by the boats.

It looks like the government has lost the respect - or at least cooperation - of the media on this one. Not a great place to be.

I think you misunderstand. In the UK, a poll is a record of opinion.

I think you are misconstruing it with a Pole which is a shortened version of saying Polish person.

So in Britain we say:
Pole = Polish person
Poll = a vote

Sigh.

It's true what they say about the internet. All of it.

Saltysal · 16/11/2023 17:00

It's very clever politics to get Everyone distracted by boats to Rwanda and Armistace/Palestine process and Suella Braverman's big mouth, because is distracts us from them removing our human rights and bleeding the country dry.

I think what makes it so clever is they have people on the left just as distracted (if not more!) than the people on the right.

Saltysal · 16/11/2023 17:02

I would not ever vote Tory. However I'm struggling to find my home on the left. I feel like Labour are really not offering a proper alternative. Keir Starmer is just a yes man for the media, not a proper leader of the opposition. He's so busy fence sitting he forgets to have an opinion.

You mean the polls that have been saying the same thing for over a year now? And the aggregate poll (electoral calculus) that has correctly called 7 out of the last 8 elections? Those polls?

DuncinToffee · 16/11/2023 17:09

Let's just lose the Tories.

It is impossible for Labour to be even 1% as corrupt and venal as them in their first term.

People are of course, free to hold onto nurse for fear of finding something worse. But then they would be living in a nursery rhyme, and not the real world.

Exactly Duncin, nail on the head 😀

I shall creep back into the shadows, a silent majority stalwart as I don't want to upset you anymore with my opinions. You've already had David Cameron to deal with this week.

I bid you a good day.

It's is their standard operating practice.

I'm quite good at harping on about the bleeding our country dry part.

I need to up my game on the removing our rights front.

I'm enjoying Peston at the moment.

He's gone from a walking government press release over Herd Immunity in early 2020 to openly mocking the shitshow. Grin
