Would be such a shame not to continue the discussion.

Oh and it such a shock to me that the guardian would present it as they have!

There are benefits other than child tax credit/universal credit such as child benefit, housing benefit, DLA, PIP - none of which are impacted by the no of children.

We’re talking about Universal Credit here - do try to keep up.

DivingForLove · 25/10/2023 19:42

@DuncinToffee thank you. I see it daily - just watching the C4 news story about the catastrophic rise of MH issues in women due to the appalling policies introduced by this toxic government and yet the constant “they know what a woman is” on here goes on and on.

Yes the Tories know what a woman is - and they fucking hate them. If you think a Tory government is doing anything other than destroying vulnerable woman you are fucking deluded 🤯😩.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 25/10/2023 19:44

most of the people I know vote tories - I will vote for them as they know what a woman is. I have two friends who used to vote labour now will vote Lib Dem.

DivingForLove · 25/10/2023 19:48

@tennesseewhiskey1 please read my post above yours. Please. The Tories are destroying women - we must stop this ludicrous narrative. They’re totally playing you.

How do they know what a woman is? What have they done to protect women for the last 13 years?

The person I originally quoted did not specifically mention universal credit so perhaps you could keep up.

Hunt only won by less than 9000 in 2019 (14% more than Lib Dems and Labour got 8%). This was at the height of Boris mania and Corbyn being PM unpalatable to most voters in that area. It was also a Tory/Lib Dem marginal in the Blair years with the Tories clinging onto it.

Could easily be a Portillo moment for Hunt. I think the only really safe Tory ones are in the really rural areas like Sunak's seat. In towns and cities they're in trouble. It

I'm not even sure about that. The farmers have been royally shafted by Brexit (after years of the government blaming the EU for the dire straits farmers were in). I should think loads of them are apoplectic.

It was in no way obvious - she said her stupid tory voting 'friend' said people have more kids to get more benefits and she said you don't not get any additional benefits after 2 children, this is simply untrue regardless if what the guardian tell you.
Then again I suppose I'm probably like her friend and politically and economically illiterate because I I don't live in the usual socialist bubble so you can continue to be rude and condescending.

To quote @TooBigForMyBoots below

"No they don't. The whole trans shitshow happened on their watch after PM May announced plans for Self ID in 2017.

In 2021 Minister Penny Mordaunt stood at the Despatch Box and said that TMAM and TWAW. This was in response to HoL's recommendations to changes in the Maternity Bill.

In 2022, Con MP Jamie Wallis came out as trans. Con MP, Crispin Blunt reported a woman to her employer for retweeting JKR, which led to a very distressing time for her. The Tory party appointed Jamie Wallis to the Women's and Equality Com. And PM Sunak gave the top job in Education to Gillian Keegan. A woman who couldn't define the word Girl.

Now, in 2023, the Dept of Ed has told schools they will not provide the promised and much needed advice to school regarding pupils presenting as trans. Just last weekend Miriam Cates had to do a mad scramble after it was reported that PM Sunak planned to include the trans inclusive Conversion Therapy Bill in the King's Speech.

Some Tories know what a woman is.
Some Tories believe TWAW and TMAM.
One Tory believes he is becoming a woman.
None of them care about women."

If people study politics and political parties more than eg football, more than eg big brother, would it be possible to have an elected party that will be good for the country

I definitely think awareness of the facts or lack of it is a huge issue.

But the facts are all out there.

Do people just repeat slogans because they can't be arsed to keep up with the facts or do they avoid the facts on purpose?

Iloveshoes123 · 25/10/2023 20:19

The points made by @TooBigForMyBoots are all correct but I could also quote you any number of Labour MP's that have said/done far worse in terms of the TWAW type rhetoric. I could also point out that there are certain tories (Kemi Badenock etc) that are looking to stop the madness regardless of how it started.
The reality is that if you are really concerned about the TWAW bandwagon and what that means for women then the tories are the most likely to stop/slowdown the current trajectory. If Labour get in it will likely be full steam ahead.
Personally it wouldn't make me vote tory because there are many other issues I think are more important but if this is a big priority for you and something that concerns you above all else it is not unreasonable to say you will vote tory for this reason.

DivingForLove · 25/10/2023 20:20

@ACGTHelix the lack of political understanding is a huge problem. Many voters don’t understand that we don’t elect our prime minister, they don’t understand FPTP, they don’t understand the difference between councillors and MPs, they don’t understand how legislation is formed, they don’t understand the role of the civil service and so on.

This is very very evident on social media.

Universal political education at 11 + should be introduced as a matter of urgency but I don’t think the Tories want people to know how things work. They’d have too many awkward questions to answer.

quite likely both points, and also as shown on this thread some will vote just because a party agrees on one point, even if the rest of the parties policies are omg.

DivingForLove · 25/10/2023 20:22

@Iloveshoes123 but it’s such a dangerous thing to do 😢. The Tories have destroyed women’s lives and have so many planned policies (such as abortion and mat leave etc) that will make women’s lives even worse. I don’t understand this rhetoric at all.

What are these supposed new policies on abortion and mat leave? There is no plan for them to change abortion rules or mat leave rules.
Honestly I could think of many, many policy reasons I would not want to vote tory but some of the scaremongering on here really pisses me off.

Iloveshoes123 · 25/10/2023 20:51

So one MP's views = policy change for the whole party on abortion and mat leave.
This is scaremongering.
Why not complain about policies that have been implemented instead of making things up.

DuncinToffee · 25/10/2023 20:54

Possibly, fair enough point but I was putting that in the context of people who are voting purely on trans policy and a very large proportion of labour MP's believe TWAW and the majority will not even say women don't have a penis I'm not sure how they would not end up impacting policy.
