Would be such a shame not to continue the discussion.

I wouldn't vote tory but the other parties are awful also the greens are ludicrous, labour think some women have a penis and under the SNP men can roam freely in women's spaces and it will be illegal for women to even complain or discuss it amongst themselves. There is nobody to vote for.

Typical Tory behaviour. Bring in policies that push more people into poverty, then stamp on them some more.

Went on Daily Mail comments section. Interestingly most comments and top rated ones are saying how evil she is with a couple even diagnosing her as being a psychopath. I have zero idea who she’s trying to speak to at this point and why she thinks this is a winning strategy.

I also believe that despite pretending to be reasonable, that Sunak is in full agreement with her views. Look at his fawning over the odious Musk, who would have all workers rights removed if he had a say.

@user411966691966 fortunately Mumsnet isn't a reliable polling organisation. Unlike Electoral Calculus, which has got 7 out of the last 8 elections right and for the past year has been showing polling that makes Tories very afraid.

Obviously Mumsnet is overly comprised of Boden wearing readers of the FeMail for their scintillating coverage of the latest Harry and Megan outrage or to see the Lovely Regal Kate on holiday in Mustique in her Bikini who then get sucked into reading their political coverage as well.

Who the fuck still thinks voting Tory is a good idea?*

Assumingly people who support these plans

Suella Braverman pushes to restrict tents for rough sleepers
Proposals include new civil penalty for charities giving tents on public nuisance grounds

https://www.ft.com/content/ccf9c260-a98a-4b89-b604-4fa19a9f6a7c?shareType=nongift

Braverman is calling it a 'lifestyle choice' in her tweet

Edited

If only I'd known it was a "lifestyle choice" during the 10 years I spent working in homelessness prevention and resettlement. I could have saved myself no end of hassle, and just told all my clients to choose a different lifestyle.

And probably avoided getting burned out.

Who the fuck still thinks voting Tory is a good idea?

55% on this thread have voted YABU

Us young'uns are on the phone app with no voting tho Grin

Notonthestairs · 04/11/2023 16:53

Braverman's latest wheeze isn't an attempt at solving homelessness.

It's simply a very successful headline grabbing exercise. Move the news cycle on from the Covid Inquiry etc.

Oddly US flavoured politics coming out of the Conservative Party these days - I suppose you've got to follow the money and the media owners.

Suella braverman is the perfect 2-dimensional modern Dickensian villain

I often wonder why people don't recognise that the people who lie to them constantly and implement policies that hurt children and the vulnerable and destroy our economy are the villains of the piece.

When they watch films and read books are they rooting for the Ralph Nickleby and Wackford Squeers type characters and their cruelty?

jazzyfips · 04/11/2023 17:01

I’m historically a labour voter but I can’t vote for them whilst Starmer is leader. I won’t vote Tory either so I’ll vote for whichever other party stands as long as they’re not total idiots.

That’s astonishing, those people are their core voters.

Lifelong Tory voting pils aren't voting at the next GE.

Allegedly.

Depending on where you live you might have someone to vote for who aligns with your views who could actually win.

The Greens are campaigning hard in university towns.

The Lib Dems in "Can't countenance any more years of the Conservatives but too leafy for Labour" type places.

You could hold the balance of power in your constituency.

There is a lot of that about. I know people who have t actually resigned the party yet but can't consider voting for more of this.

TheHateIsNotGood · 04/11/2023 17:21

I call for an "humanitarian pause" on the whole debate - because I can't say 'ceasefire' as I might upset someone, somewhere who might go all outraged on me.

After that, I'll wait for my constituency's GE Candidate List to be published before I have an idea who'll I be voting for. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

Meanwhile.....carry on folks.

Why not due to Starmer?

I mean I don’t have great things to say either about him but interested for a Labour voter why not

Is it because he thinks women can have a penis?

I already know I will vote for whichever candidate can win who isn't a Tory.

That's the best thing I can do for our country as far a I'm concerned.

MadeleineMummy · 04/11/2023 15:11

She is not a caricature of a villain. She actually exists, is lauded by many in the Party and is free to implement policy that is red meat to the rabid conservatives. In a sane country she would be “seig heiling” in a home for the criminally insane while conspiring with the painting of a teapot on the wall to make being poor a capital offence.

Thankfully, i do not believe most people think homelessness is a life style choice, this very much smacks of the another tory minister who complained about homeless people....

Tory minister George Young described the homeless as “what you step over when you come out of the opera"

I remember my time in London, accosted by people who clearly should have been in a secure unit, soup kitchens run out the back Range Rovers, then outside Aldgate East station, child beggars - early 90s, the height of tory deprivation.

For context, just come back from living in South Africa for 2 years, imho parts of London were worse than Jo'burg for poverty.

The more the Tories go to the right (and its hard to believe they could go further) the more they nail shut their electoral coffin.

Yeah.

I'm not the sort to be manipulated by a slogan.

Arguably the most neglected and deprived parts of an Empire are those closest to power.

SerendipityJane · 04/11/2023 19:13

I presume if homelessness is a lifestyle choice, so is disability. Would explain a lot about the Tory attitude to that too.

Of course "lifestyle choice" is just the modern concept of "ordained by God". Either one means no one has to do anything about it.

Kendodd · 04/11/2023 19:38

Yeah, homeless people should just stop buying cappuccinos and buy themselves a house.
