Would be such a shame not to continue the discussion.

Anyone who still thinks the Tories are fit to rule should listen to last night's Andrew Marr show on LBC. you can listen on catch-up on the LBC app or on Global Player app.

That sounds like restful listening in the bath Grin

Christ.

The Boris Johnson WhatsApps seem to be saying (if I'm following his logic) that only over 80s would die of covid and there were only 3 million of them so why shut down the country for people who were going to die soon anyway?

Christ.

How can the be "news" when the whole country knew it ?

Zonder · 01/11/2023 07:57

I think seeing it in black and white brings it all back. I hope this is the final nail in the coffin for any older people voting Tory. And I'd like to think there will be some kind of justice meted out for Johnson but we know that's highly unlikely.

You can soon listen to the farting blob of lard and get his bloating directly from the horse’s mouth on GB News. If that finally puts paid to the so called ‘news’ channel then I really fear for the intelligence of this country.

I doubt the Mail or the Telegraph mentioned Johnson's comments about 3 million old people being left to die.

A lot of old people agree with him.

As long as they cover damage from lockdown and whether it was worth it.

Looks unlikely given level of information being provided.

Almost sounds like you are only interested in that area and not how prepared the Government and health service was to combat a pandemic. Have you only just started paying attention to the Inquiry this week? It's been running for a couple of months and is expected to run for many more.

Here is a link explaining the structure.

https://covid19.public-inquiry.uk/structure-of-the-inquiry/#section33_future-modules

They are leaving care homes til after the election funnily enough.

For the next one yes I want a good look at risk v harms.

It’s a huge question that affects children, young people, livelihoods and damages mh

I’m sure you’ll get the part you are focussing on so do that. For future pandemics we need a broad view on risk v damage.

Notonthestairs · 01/11/2023 08:36

A reminder that the Government signed off the terms of the Inquiry and appointed Hallett in 2021 (so under Johnson)

If they don't cover what you want them to cover that's down to them.

Notonthestairs · 01/11/2023 08:38

I've been reading about the evidence coming out from the Inquiry since it started. Sorry it's only just come to your attention. Maybe change your news provider.

DuncinToffee · 01/11/2023 08:40

No need to apologise but ok.

Sneer lock on early this morning I see. Maybe change your morning routine or phone settings.

Notonthestairs · 01/11/2023 08:46

I'm not sneering. I'm angry.

The evidence is devastating.

My disabled kid had every bit of support (physio, SLT, etc) ripped away. My freelance work had to end whilst I tried to keep them going. I'm well aware of the bloody impact.

Doesn't mean I will avoid reading about how the Government, health service, care homes and everything else functioned during the period.

You seem to have tuned in to complain about an inquiry you haven't bothered to read about before now.

There’s no point in getting angry at people who do things differently or you really will explode.

If you have the capacity to watch the inquiry closely go for it.

I’m looking for the big picture answers, as there may well be another pandemic and I would like the harms factored in.

What do those who announce with great pride that they are going to spoil their ballot paper think they are going to achieve? Yes, they get counted but that's it. A complete waste of time. It really won't change a thing if 99% of the electorate spoil their papers, the few remaining votes will determine the outcome. It only takes a majority of 1 to win.

Well, exactly. And no-one knows or cares about the reason the ballot paper was spoiled, so that if anything the assumption is not that it was spoiled out of principle but because the voter doesn't know how to fill it in, or is some conspiracy freak who's done it because they think we're all ruled by lizards.

Notonthestairs · 01/11/2023 09:21

My view is that you are only paying attention now because of your interest in the Cummings and Johnson dynamic.

If you were genuinely interested in what the Inquiry will cover and who set it up it was very easy to google.

Further modules will be announced in the coming months, at which point key information will be uploaded on this page. Each module will investigate issues across the UK as a whole, including in the devolved administrations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This will cover both ‘system’ and ‘impact’ issues across the UK including:
• Testing and tracing
• The Government’s business and financial responses
• Health inequalities and the impact of Covid-19
• Education, children and young persons
• Other public services, including frontline delivery by key workers
On this page

	Active modules
	Future modules

It is vital we learn from what happened - but that must span every element and not just selected interests.

You can overthink it but your imagination is your own. It’s not my issue as you haven’t got it right,

What I’m thinking of the information now is the opposite of interest.

I see the Tory newspapers have led with an attack on Cummings (not Johnson).

TBH, I expected the high winds and rain to be their lead and they's ignore the covid enquiry completely.

Yes, I think I assumed from actions taken or not taken regarding protecting old people in care homes that the old are considered expendable by the Tories, but to see it expressed so callously by the man who held the power of life and death over them...

I'd also always assumed a high level of incompetence and thought some of it might be accidental rather than government policy.

messybutfun · 01/11/2023 11:06

I find it rather funny how Cummings is trying to present himself as the one competent person in Downing Street.

Like they have been since June.
