AIBU to think this is grim?

DH gets a Graze box in the post every month (random collection of snacks in box which fits through the letterbox).

There's no obvious home for it in the kitchen cupboards so he puts it on top of a stack of dinner plates.

I think this is grim because it's been through the postal system, handled at the sorting office, handled by the postman and lands of our floor just inside the door right where everyone treads in their shoes when they come into the house.

He sees no issue in then putting food onto the plate the box has been on. I disagree. AIBU?

YANBU!

MinnieL · 23/10/2023 18:25

I wouldn’t like that at all!

SeaToSki · 23/10/2023 18:27

Well apart from germy-ness. Doesnt it make getting a dinner plate out a pain? Surely there is somewhere else it could go?

MarmitePizza · 23/10/2023 18:28

I really can’t believe people think about things like this. I totally wouldn’t give a shit - it would never cross my mind.

N4ish · 23/10/2023 18:33

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

junebirthdaygirl · 23/10/2023 18:33

Just don't use the top plate and pop it in the dishwasher

TimeForTeaAndG · 23/10/2023 18:35

Can't he decant it into a Tupperware box and store it on the worktop or wherever other snacks are kept?

pictoosh · 23/10/2023 18:50

Wouldn't bother me.

FlemishHorse · 23/10/2023 18:51

Honestly, the chances of the box having

(a) picked up any pathogens*
(b) that have survived in these conditions, in enough numbers, to make someone eating off the plate ill

…are

(c) microscopic.

*microorganisms that cause disease (in humans)

margotrose · 23/10/2023 18:52

It really wouldn't occur to me to even think about this as a problem.

Strugglingtodomybest · 23/10/2023 18:53

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Wouldn't even occur to me to think the way you do.

Gidrich · 23/10/2023 18:54

I think of you are going to worry about this you might as well start disinfecting all your shopping- the cereal packets/butter/milk carton etc that you buy in the supermarket will also be ‘dirty’.

sprigatito · 23/10/2023 18:56

Christ on a bike 🙄 why not just have yourself laminated? That way nothing can get in.

PrintersCourt · 23/10/2023 18:56

It would bother me that it was stored with the plates and not with other food items because I’m weird like that but it wouldn’t cross my mind to worry about dirt/germs.

Sunmoonstars33 · 23/10/2023 18:56

I think YABU. Sometimes this happens in our kitchen cupboard as there's 5 of us.. random stuff gets put in there etc
I always rinse any plates and cups before use anyway as they've been sat in an old dusty cupboard. It's not really that much effort. And I think it's kinda grim not to give plates a quick wash before use anyway

QueSyrahSyrah · 23/10/2023 18:57

I would never in a million years come up with that chain of thought. I'd think the top of the dinner plates is a weird place to put them, but not for that reason.

Ohh that made me laugh.

fearfuloffluff · 23/10/2023 18:58

That would annoy me just because boxes don't belong with plates, not specifically the germ angle. It sounds like he plonks it any old where not caring that it makes it tricky to get plates out.

fearfuloffluff · 23/10/2023 18:59

Tbh I'd be annoyed if dh got graze as it's a lot of money for what is basically a load of nuts and raisins with coating on them

devildeepbluesea · 23/10/2023 18:59

What am I reading???

“Man puts unopened snack box on dinner plate, outbreak of cholera ensues”….. I dunno. It seems unlikely to me.

ToadOnTheHill · 23/10/2023 19:00

How is there no other space!?

Pertangyangkipperbang · 23/10/2023 19:01

🤣🤷‍♀️🤣🤷‍♀️🤣🤷‍♀️🤣🤷‍♀️🤣
Get a grip.. everyone has somewhere else it can go.. or just don't use the top plate.
Do you open post/ parcels in gloves? Disinfect everything you bring into the house?
Gey a grip.

AhBiscuits · 23/10/2023 19:03

I wouldn't care. 😎
I walk on the wild side.

EmmaDilemma5 · 23/10/2023 19:04

YABU. Do you want your hands after touching everything outside? Unless you're immunocompromised, your body can cope.

I agree.

I’d be more annoyed it’s in an inconvenient place.

It’s small enough to fit through the letter box.
I’m sure there is space somewhere else for it.
What about the food cupboard?

Or tell him to stop buying them and just buy actual big backs of snacks, as it’s such a waste of money.
