AIBU to think this is grim?

DH gets a Graze box in the post every month (random collection of snacks in box which fits through the letterbox).

There's no obvious home for it in the kitchen cupboards so he puts it on top of a stack of dinner plates.

I think this is grim because it's been through the postal system, handled at the sorting office, handled by the postman and lands of our floor just inside the door right where everyone treads in their shoes when they come into the house.

He sees no issue in then putting food onto the plate the box has been on. I disagree. AIBU?

Christ on a bike 🙄 why not just have yourself laminated? That way nothing can get in.

😬

I think you need to go on Dragon's Den with this!

An alarming majority of MNetters would sign up immediately :-)

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

This.

Onelifeonly · 23/10/2023 19:16

No it wouldn't as I'm not germ obsessed. (Think how many might be on any box of food either delivered to you or picked up in a shop. Oh, you probably do.....)

I'd want it in a food cupboard though, as to me, like goes with like.

whyisswangnotaword · 23/10/2023 19:20

Wouldn't bother me at all. I assume one is not washing their hands each time they touch the box that the snacks are in before eating said snacks anyway.

I really can’t believe people think about things like this. I totally wouldn’t give a shit - it would never cross my mind.

Me neither. Some of us just get on with enjoying our lives, not obsessing about such trivial matters. What on earth do you think will happen OP?

It amuses me. So many people complain about how busy they are these days, far busier than any previous generations apparently - and yet they spend time on this nonsense????

Stilldigging · 23/10/2023 19:26

Just make sure it is his food that goes on that plate!

Georgyporky · 23/10/2023 19:27

I agree with OP. Ex-DH once put a parcel that landed on the doormat on top of a chopping board. I put his shoes on top of it, the penny dropped & he didn't do it again

This! The stuff people fret about! The general question to ask yourself is... "But have I died yet?" 😂

Georgyporky · 23/10/2023 19:30

The lack of basic hygiene knowledge on this thread is incredible. Where are the MNers who are OCD about it ?

I don't know why but this has proper cheered me up!!! 😁

me in the slightest.

Shocking absolutely shocking!

Is your husband called Steptoe?

Mumsnet is 50% people who strive to live in a totally sterile environment, and 50% people who let their dogs lick their face. No middle ground.

The former 50% must be busy disinfecting something this evening.

pictoosh · 23/10/2023 19:34

I hate the word 'grim' now, thanks to MN. It's always used to describe something daft that people are judgemental about...like only washing your towels once a week; something totally inconsequential and stupid.
"Ugh grim."
Please fuck off.

Burnoutwhat · 23/10/2023 19:34

Yeah I wouldn't like that. I wash my hfs after opening packages as they're on the floor etc. I know the chance of them having anything I can catch is tiny but I'd rather be careful.

Wouldn’t even occur to me either!

KevinDeBrioche · 23/10/2023 19:37

It wouldn’t bother me because of gems BUT I wouldn’t be happy about food stored in with the plates, that makes no sense! What about the pantry / larder/ food cupboard?!

FreebieWallopFridge · 23/10/2023 19:39

I genuinely don’t know how people have the spare time or headspace to even think of this stuff, never mind get worked up about it.

Redbushteaforme · 23/10/2023 19:39

I agree with you, OP. Pretty manky thing to do.

Smartiepants79 · 23/10/2023 19:39

And I understand basic hygiene just fine.
I also have a functioning immune system and can think of many ways that I’m more likely to catch germs than this scenario.

Disturbia81 · 23/10/2023 19:39

No this wouldn't even enter my head.

FreebieWallopFridge · 23/10/2023 19:44

If anyone needs me I’ll be at the sorting office licking the special deliveries

Xmasbaby11 · 23/10/2023 19:46

Wouldn’t occur to me tbh.
