Friend lying about tv appearance.

KatKoot · 20/10/2023 22:54

A friend of mine has recently told me (& put on Facebook) that they were going to be a contestant on a popular quiz show
However when I checked online to see if I could be part of the audience the website said the show had been recorded in March and will be on tv in 2024.
WIBU to call this friend out on their lie or is it possible they’re telling the truth & audience website is incorrect.

OP posts:

That was probably the last series they filmed. My daughter has just filmed a TV show but if you were to Google that, you wouldn't know that they are filming the new series. All you would see is when the last lot of filming was.
So it's probably the same scenario.

Mademetoxic · 20/10/2023 23:27

Gosh, you sound like a child in all your posts. Grow up.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 20/10/2023 23:28

🤨

feelingalittlehorse · 20/10/2023 23:33

Is that show still on? Forgot about that completely.

Stravaig · 20/10/2023 23:37

OP, it's more natural to relate events as if they're happening in real time, especially after having to stay silent for months. This is what they'd have told you at the time, if they'd been allowed to.

You sound bizarrely invested in booking a ticket to be in their audience - would they even have wanted that?

StolenCookie · 20/10/2023 23:38

Surely the jig is up when you WATCH the actual show that airs and see that she’s not on it… ???

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 20/10/2023 23:39

God the pitch forks are out in force tonight. Hope you're all proud of yourselves you nasty bullies.

The friend clearly told OP that she was recording this week which it is not possible that she was. If my friend told me a lie like that I'd be pretty weirded out/intrigued. Honestly sometimes the weird need to leap on a bandwagon of viciousness is so absolutely frightening.

I wanted to go & see the show being recorded but we sure said recording was done in March.

Oh, my son is on that! In fact, I just looked it up before I realise that was what you were talking about. They recorded it in February and then he got into the dingdong about Meghan. It's going to be shown in 2024.

determinedtomakethiswork · 20/10/2023 23:39

Sorry, when I say, my son is on it, I mean he is in the audience! Got a bit overexcited there!

mrsfollowill · 20/10/2023 23:41

@LittleCrackers she didn't win anything! there were four contestants and she was the second booted off. She answered her questions well but the machine was just against her that day so she left with nothing. Really enjoyed the day out though.

JFT · 20/10/2023 23:47

I would suggest one of two things - either there's been some misunderstanding or miscommunication in what she said and what the fact of the matter is, ie maybe she's applied to be a contestant in the future and it hasn't yet been recorded but she's been accepted. Or maybe she was a contestant in a recording and in the end it wasn't broadcast, was chopped, etc. Those type of misunderstandings...

OR

Maybe she's a bit of a fantasist and a bit delusional and has a need to try and impress you with a story about being on a TV show. In which case, perhaps try to be kind instead of confrontational.

Obviously it's got under your skin and so you feel terribly irritated by her and have turned detective. However, easiest way to address the issue would be to say 'hey when you told me you were going to be on that TV show, was it true?' in a relaxed way.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/10/2023 23:48

She got to 12 questions did she aye? Well it will make for an interesting convo when she she doesn't appear. Are you going to give it to the end of 2024 OP?

Itwasafterallallaboutme · 20/10/2023 23:50

CuriousGeorge80 · 20/10/2023 23:13

Not sure why people are being so rude to OP. It’s pretty clear from her posts that her friend told her she was disliking it last week - which looks like it can’t be true. And has now told her she’s got to 12 questions which is a £125k prize. So that is quite a big lie!

@CuriousGeorge80 are you my son? xxx

fireplacetiles · 20/10/2023 23:53

My daughter has been on Pointless, the show took nearly 18 months to come to air and she told no one how she had done, we didn't know until we watched it ( she didn't win any money but she did get a pointless answer!)

ASGIRC · 20/10/2023 23:54

happyshineyperson · 20/10/2023 23:08

Can’t people read? The friend said she was filming this week. She then told the OP how far she got after the “filming”. All sounds like a load of rubbish.

Yeah, the telling people how far she got is how I would think lie.

I have some friends who have been on the kind of show the OP is talking about, and while we knew theyd be in it, and when it would air, they told us NOTHING about it, as theyd signed NDAs. Like, sure maybe their partners knew, but now the wider circle of friends.

OutlandInland · 21/10/2023 00:00

I know of someone who compulsively lied to a huge extent about tv shows that she had huge parts in. Surprisingly she never appeared on tv. I think its some kind of illness when you feel the need to do it again and again.

Angelsrose · 21/10/2023 00:12

It's not a big deal op. If you don't like this lady please move on. Don't let this matter take up any more of your precious time.

AngelAurora · 21/10/2023 00:17

Have you nothing better to do? Seriously so what?

DahliaMacNamara · 21/10/2023 00:22

A family member was on a quiz show with substantial prizes a few years ago. They kept it very quiet for months, but then began dropping vague hints as the time it was to be aired drew nearer. Nobody believed them as they were known to be a bit of a bullshitter, but they were there onscreen alright on the night they'd said. Can't say I was bothered either way if it was true.

InYourOwnHead · 21/10/2023 00:26

You don't like this person. Distance yourself from them and let the lie naturally come out when your friend doesn't appear on the show. What the point in trying to catch them out? To make a big dramatic scene and argument? I couldn't be bothered. It's quite sad that this person lies really.

WhichEllie · 21/10/2023 00:30

Judging by OP’s posts I suspect that the person in question might just enjoy winding her up rather than actually being a compulsive liar.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 21/10/2023 00:55

Filming for this series is complete but is just beginning for the next series. Are you jealous or just really bored of your own life?

How very odd 🤔
