To think it’s turning into genocide in real time

Just seen this on the news- how can this be right? It genuinely is starting to feel like genocide.

What Hamas did was beyond appalling. But this is also beyond appalling too. Its trying to wipe Gaza off the map. Over 500 kids have already died. Human rights watch have verified that Israel uses white phosphorus against Gaza, which is a war crime.

And everyone is just watching it happen.

“The Israeli army has just ordered the entire civilian population of Gaza to evacuate south within 24 hours. The UN says that amounts to 1.1 million people& applies to 100s of 1000s sheltered in UN buildings & their staff. This is impossible without “devastating human consequences”
Leaving aside the international law implications, I cannot emphasise enough how impossible this kind of movement of people would be. I have spent a lot of time in Gaza it is one of the most densely populated places on earth, there are pretty much only 2 roads south - along the coast and down the centre - they aren’t wide or well paved. I spoke to the gaza health ministry yesterday who said every hospital was overflowing. How would the wounded and elderly be transported? There is a massive fuel shortage how would vehicles drive? There would be no where for 1.1 million to go even if they got there. Rafah crossing to Egypt is not operational because of Israeli airstrikes.”

This is how Genocide is classified;
U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:

"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  • Killing members of the group;
  • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part"

The actions of both Israel & Hamas fit this description too. It’s just fucking beyond terrible. And it feels like some world leaders are just cheering from the sidelines 😪

@OneHurtSpaggettio I certainly hope the Israeli government don't care about me. That would be a bit random as I'm Irish and not even a little bit Jewish. So why are you asking me such an odd question? Is this related in some way to something else I've said?

It’s not an odd question at all. You’re clearly very pro-Israel governmental policy so not odd to assume you live there and voted for them.

Lonelycrab · 20/10/2023 16:10

why do you think that Hamas were not intercepted by the police or IDF for so many hours, and left to massacre those who were likely pro-peace Israelis in a kibbutz and music festival?

This is one question I just can’t answer either. Regardless of any claimed security failures, mobile phones still exist. The geographical distances are not large at all, and Israel have an incredibly advanced, well funded military that is known as one of the best in the world.

The security and intelligence failures have been explained previously, but I'm not surprised some still act otherwise.

To answer your specific question, Hamas jammed communications, including Positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

Consider how much of the UK’s infrastructure – telecoms, financial services, power generation, agriculture – is reliant on PNT/GNSS.

Apply that to Israel.

Hamas spent a LOT of time convincing the world they were only interested in governing Gaza, not attacking Israel. All the while they were secretly planning an attack. Due to the blockade (put in for security reasons), Hamas learnt how to manufacture locally made weapons amongst other things.

Hamas were able to target the communications tower. Dead Hamas members were found with maps and objectives to hand.

This was more than just smashing through a fence or flying over walls.

GPS warfare is real and also affects a range of civilian technologies, including flights. A good reason why airlines have stopped or reduced flights to/from Tel Aviv.

It makes it so much harder to coordinate and mobilise your army if the enemy is able to jam communications.

Too much security breeds complacency. Israel won't be making that mistake again. Absolutely no way they can ever trust any narrative coming out of Gaza Strip from now on. Even the work permits helped Hamas, so that's a Trojan Horse weak spot too.

My understanding is

Hamas damaged/interfered with the main surveillance/security hub when they broke out at the Erez gate

Israeli forces had been concentrated in the West Bank

It was a Jewish religious holiday to less on duty

IDF arrived to Hamas 'fighters' still roving around so had to fight them off first

Buildings where people were sheltering had been booby-trapped so had to deal with this before rescuing them

All the while coping with impaired communication systems

You’re all over these threads for the attention and the lolz and the twisting of peoples’ words. What a way to get your kicks.

I know the UN wants to supply the whole of Gaza

But you have to start somewhere and with a good chance of succeeding - it's only a small portion of aid - at least at this stage

Also the UN will not want to recklessly endanger their staff

There is supposed to be a ceasefire to let aid in to all in need.
A ceasefire in all areas.

When was a ceasefire agreed?

Is this something new - because it is my understanding that Israel will not agree to even a limited ceasefire

Honestly I don't think posting emotive videos is useful. There are plenty from both Gaza and Israel available but the only purpose they will serve is hightened emotions.

I've personally refrained from posting anything unless it's in evidence of something specific.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 18:37

@SomeCatFromJapan its not really about being useful to be honest. I think it’s important to see the reality of what is happening too - the impact on people/children. Sometimes emotion is all people can relate to- not just pics of bombs. This is the reality of what is happening- children are losing parents. It’s absolute horror.

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 I do see your point but am concerned it could descend into a sort of tit for tat of people finding the most upsetting videos they can to support their points of view.
I'm not the thread police though of course.

A ceasefire so that aid can be delivered …. Ie no bombing whilst it’s happening.
Thats part of the agreement and ongoing discussions.

Google it.

I'm pretty certain the poster isn't posting "for the lolz". What a vile thing to suggest. Just because she disagrees with you. I don't think anyone thinks any of this is even remotely funny. What is the matter with you?

T don't need to google it thanks I'm well aware that a ceasefire has been sought - but there is no ceasefire at present so the UN is highly unlikely to be having it's staff drive 20 miles into northern gaza.

This is a very small amount of aid compared to what is needed - as I read it trying to make this initial delivery happen with the hope that more will follow

Efacsen · 20/10/2023 18:59

A little bit of good news 2 US hostages have been released by Hamas [Qatari neg] and are making their way back to Israel thro# Egypt accompanied by the Red Crescent

The University of London's Forensic Architechture team and others have published an analysis of the hospital attack and are suggesting, not definitively yet, that the Gaza hospital attack was most likely carried out by the Israelis.

They also conclude that the audio recording of "Hamas operatives" talking about it was manipulated and not a credible sourceof evidence.

Interesting
They are not the first to come to this conclusion
The ‘lies’ are falling apart.
As they so so often have

If they hit another hospital, will Sunak, Biden stick with them. ? Probably it’s not about innocent lives with them

Israel saying no

Another network on hospital thread
Right under the statement about 2 US hostages released

3 previous threats on hospital and now the latest one. No doubt Israel are threatening another hospital.
Haven’t they bombed enough hospitals, schools, refugee camps and churches!

I saw this too. It’s horrifying. This is what happened with the other hospital. I read there are 12,000 people sheltering there. This is madness.
