After a long period of not working due to illness, I'm about to try part time again. Curious about what the time ranges are for people working, full or part time. What would be your ideal schedule if you could pick?

For myself as I get older I'm going from a complete night owl to preferring to get stuff done and out of the way as early as possible. Despite still not being great at mornings at all. But I get exhausted much earlier in the evenings now and once I'm tired my brain shuts up shop and can do nothing useful. I am only 38!

17 hours over 3 days, wfh

Tdcp · 11/10/2023 08:37

I work full time 38 hours a week. I leave at 7:45 and get in for 8:15-8:30 and leave at 5, getting home for 5:45 ish.

I work 30 hours over 5 days, generally 9-3 each day. School is really near my house and work is a 10 min cycle from school so it works well, except that I am either with the kids or at my desk!

I would like to work 9-3 for 3 days a week term time only for about £40k, that would be my ideal job 😆

15 mins to stables 15 mins from stables on to work for 8am - 5pm, then 15 mins back to stables straight from work

it's a 42.50 hour working week, and i WFH once a week.

Ideally i'd be fully remote again, i only took this role as the company/projects will be good on my CV. Next role will definitely be remote!

38 hours a week. Start at 8am, 1 hour commute. Finish at 3pm or 4pm. 3 days in the office, 2 days at home. 8 year old and 5 year old. I am constantly shattered and definitely not a morning person.

Commute is approx 1.5 hours each way. Leave the house at 615, back around the same time.

Snap. Some days I don't mind it, some days an extra 5 minutes of traffic pushes me over the edge!

Delpf · 11/10/2023 10:50

@SpringIntoChaos this sounds horrifying. What do you do?? Do you choose to work so much, or do you have to do those hours to prevent being swamped?

Boska23 · 11/10/2023 10:53

Full time. Mostly WFH 8-18h, sometimes more. Occasionally office. 1.5h commute one way.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/10/2023 10:56

25 hours per week, 9pm-2am. WFH apart from one week a month in the office which is a 10 minute drive.

Ariela · 11/10/2023 11:13

10-14 min commute. Leave home at 08.45, so just miss the school traffic, am there about 1-2 minute to 9. I could walk, but by the time I've walked the dog, stacked the dishwasher with last night's stuff, prepped tonight's meal etc etc there is no time.
Same time in reverse. Always avoid the school traffic which can add a good 10 minutes if you hit it wrongly!

I'm a primary school teacher with SLT responsibilities. It is horrifying, you're right, and not sustainable - but it's the expectation and totally 'normal' in education now...utterly unacceptable and nothing like it was when I started 30 years ago 😨😢

I used to love my job...now it's taken everything from me and I'm broken. Love the children of course...but nothing about teaching is right anymore 😢😞

I work 21 hours per week in a school. Term time only. I leave at about 8am and get in for 8.30. The traffic is horrendous bad like this all day and night. I only live 2 miles from the school. I leave at 4.30. Usually home by 5.

The two other days I do private work.

mrsbyers · 16/10/2023 21:17

Full time at home , 37 hours over 4 days with every Wednesday off so that I can manage a lot of health issues and rest mid week

MonkeyPuddle · 16/10/2023 21:20

28.5hrs a week but one week I work 2 shifts and then 3 shifts the next. 8pm-8am permanent night shifts, 20 min commute both ways. I like it.
