After a long period of not working due to illness, I'm about to try part time again. Curious about what the time ranges are for people working, full or part time. What would be your ideal schedule if you could pick?

For myself as I get older I'm going from a complete night owl to preferring to get stuff done and out of the way as early as possible. Despite still not being great at mornings at all. But I get exhausted much earlier in the evenings now and once I'm tired my brain shuts up shop and can do nothing useful. I am only 38!

I work as many hours as I need to. My contract says there are no minimum hours.

WFH days I start at 8 and finish at 7. Office days I leave by 7.15 to start at 8 and try to leave before 8pm.

Usually work 45/50 hpw. A couple of times a month if papers are due or I have a deadline it's not unusual for me to work until midnight.

I'm 63. I love work.

RocketIceLollie · 11/10/2023 06:51

Leave house at 8.15. 20 min commute to work thereafter each way.

Alaimo · 11/10/2023 06:51

I have flexible hours, but tend to work 8:30-5. My commute is a 15 minute cycle to work.

fiorentina · 11/10/2023 06:55

Leave the house at 6.30 to get in for 8am.
Some days working at a different office I leave at 5.30am to get there for 9am.

YellowRoses100 · 11/10/2023 06:56

I work 21 hours per week. Over 3 days. I leave the house about 8.15 to arrive at work for 9. I leave at 4. I also have my own business which I work about 20 hours a week on. Mainly at home

shakeitoffsis · 11/10/2023 06:57

10 min commute, start at 8.45 leave at 4.45

TheChosenTwo · 11/10/2023 06:58

I work 35 hours a week, 4 days WFH doing 8:30-4 and 1 day a week I’m in the office which is an hour commute, I leave my house that day at 8:20 and get home at about 5pm.

I'm on 90% of full time hours so I have a weds afternoon off! Contracted for 33.75 hours. I usually do around 34-38 hours. But it's a well paid and flexible job. I am supposed to go in the office 2x a week, but I only go in once. My commute is 40-50 mins door to door or 0 mins working from home. I was planning to drop my weds morning, but CoL this year meant that isn't possible. I'm 35, single, no kids. I think I have a great work life balance.

Goinoutalone · 11/10/2023 06:59

Full time 8:00-4:30. 12minute commute

JoanThursday · 11/10/2023 07:00

I work 30 hours over four days, Mon to thurs. I tend to work 9 to 5.15 ish, but we have a flexi system so some days I work more, some less.

I work in HE and tend to work on campus mostly as I'm rubbish at wfh. I like the students round me! However, my dd has just started Y7 so sometimes I race home at lunchtime and wfh in the afternoons, when dh isn't wfh. So very flexible indeed.

My commute is a 12 min bike ride, largely through resident streets. I feel very lucky!

Twenty years ago when I was younger and more energetic, I had a 90 min commute each way on regional trains and a job with lots of evening hours. Never again!

howshouldibehave · 11/10/2023 07:00

Up at 6.30, leave the house at 7.15, get to work at 7.30 ish, leave work at 5.30/6. Lucky to only do 3 days a week.

NonMiDispiace · 11/10/2023 07:04

I’m retired now but I would leave the house by 7am, an hour’s commute then get home by 6pm. This was pre-Covid, no working from home. My job entailed driving all over the county so often did 500-600 miles a month on top of a 42 mile round trip commute.
it lead to burnout eventually.

Limpba · 11/10/2023 07:06

Work 9-5 on site
leave at 845am home by 510pm

CissOff · 11/10/2023 07:07

I go to the office around 3 days a week - leave the house at 6.45 to get to the office for 8.45, leave around 5pm to get home for 7ish.

I love my job and the commute is split up in ti car, bus, short walk so it doesn’t feel as long as it is!

ProfYaffle · 11/10/2023 07:07

I work 30hrs over 5 days, 8am to 2pm. 40 min drive and free parking at work. In my previous job 22hrs over 3 full days. Train commute with desk to door time of 50 mins.

I initially thought my new working pattern would be awful as it's a full time commute on a part time salary. However, I find it works really well. Driving and free parking is actually way cheaper than the train fares. I feel like I'm almost full time. There's only a couple of hours in the day when I'm not there, so I keep on top of things, but I've still got the afternoons to myself. It helps that I have a generous holiday entitlement too.

Missymarple · 11/10/2023 07:08

I work full time but do a 9 day fortnight, so I do 8ish - 5 for 5 days one week and 4 the next. My commute is barely 10 minutes door to door.

My ideal hours would be 0 so I could spend my life doing what I want to do but those bills need paying.

guild · 11/10/2023 07:10

Leave home 7.50, start work 8.30, leave work 4pm get home 4.45pm. Luckily my work is really flexible and allows me these hours on a full time contract 😮‍💨 I don't take lunch, to make up hours. Enjoy work though and never find I have to clock watch.

MayThe4th · 11/10/2023 07:15

I work 35 hours a week from home. My role is customer service though so I can be required to work anything between 8 AM and 10 PM including weekends. I much prefer early shifts, and generally when I’m on earlies I’m also on weekends meaning I get a day off during the week which breaks it up a bit.

This week I’m on lates and they’re a bit of a killer, even if it does mean I can get up later.

SpringIntoChaos · 11/10/2023 07:15

59, full time - leave home at 7.15 get to work at 7.40/45 depending on traffic. Leave work at 6, home by 6.30. Usually have around 3 hours work still to do so eat then work until around 10 most nights. This is Mon-Fri. Weekends I usually do around 8 hours work...try to get up early both days to get about 4 hours done before lunch so that I have some semblance of a day left to get chores done (I live by myself so if I don't do it nobody will 🤷‍♀️)

I reckon I'm working between 65/70 hours most weeks.

I'm very much looking forward to retirement 😞

Professionalmess · 11/10/2023 07:20

Full time, 9-5, 1 hours commute each way on buses. Driving would probably be 15-20 minutes but with nowhere to park. I'm currently planning an electric bicycle, for when I'm not injured. That should take 30 minutes but I'll have to leave at the same time to be able to shower at work.

EnoughNow2023 · 11/10/2023 07:22

I work full time, equivalent of 37.5 hours a week but condensed into a 9 day fortnight. Usually 8-5 with 30 minute break. Hybrid working 3-4 days at home. Commute varies depending which office I'm going into so anything from 15-45 minutes

wereonthemarket · 11/10/2023 07:24

I work 24 hours over 3 days. Leave house at 8. Work 830-5. Home 530.

Girasoli · 11/10/2023 07:24

I work 30h per week. 2 days wfh, 2 days in the office. Office days I leave the house at 8.20 to get in for 9 and get home for 6-6.15

LemonPeonies · 11/10/2023 07:24

Full Time, have to be there 6:45. Official hours 7am til 19:30 pm so up at half 5ish. 20 minutes drive on a good day. Get paid 34.5 hours a week but often have to stay late.

LemonPeonies · 11/10/2023 07:25

3 days a week
