After a long period of not working due to illness, I'm about to try part time again. Curious about what the time ranges are for people working, full or part time. What would be your ideal schedule if you could pick?

For myself as I get older I'm going from a complete night owl to preferring to get stuff done and out of the way as early as possible. Despite still not being great at mornings at all. But I get exhausted much earlier in the evenings now and once I'm tired my brain shuts up shop and can do nothing useful. I am only 38!

My daughter is a secondary school teacher . She leaves home about 7am to travel to work by train every day, as she doesn't drive. She gets to school about 7.45am. she very often doesn't get home till 6.30 (depending on trains being cancelled or train strikes)... or even later if there's a parents' evening or an after school event.

I'm a TA. I get up at 6am leave home at 07:30 to be in work for 07:45 . I officially finish at 15:20, but I very often don't leave till 16:00.

AfterWeights · 10/10/2023 17:44

I do 30 hours a week. 3 days I do 9-3 working from home, 2 days roughly 8-5 in the office. I get up at 6.15 or so to get a 7am train. I'm home around 6.30.

I do occasionally have to do some work in the evenings but i try not to do this a lot.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2023 17:44

Wfh 20 hrs per week. Most of the people I work with are in California so generally I do afternoons but if I've no meetings I might work earlier depending on the weather etc.

MissPettigrewIsWFH · 10/10/2023 17:45

WFH - start at 0630, finish at 1600, but that includes an hour out at 0800 for the school run

BlueKaftan · 10/10/2023 17:47

I’m 55, 15 minute commute for a roughly 9am start, 37.5 hours per week. I’m exhausted by Thursday every week. I’ve worked these hours without a break since my early 20s and Im starting to feel ‘done’.

Sallyingon · 10/10/2023 17:49

I work 9-5. I'm lucky that my commute is a 10 minute walk..
I think I would prefer to do longer days and just have a four day week. But on the whole I'm happy.

socks1107 · 10/10/2023 17:49

Full time with a 90 minute commute each way but two days a week at home

Dairywairy · 10/10/2023 18:14

I work 4 days and can usually only wfh once a week. Sometimes twice if I’m lucky. However my hours in the office are quite flexible so I can usually time them to avoid the rush hour which means the commute takes 15 mins instead of 30-40. If I don’t do enough hours during the day then I have to make them up in the evenings or at the weekend.

AceofPentacles · 10/10/2023 18:27

I work 9-.5.30
Leave home 8am get home 6.30
I also drive average 500 miles a week as community & office based

Coffeerum · 10/10/2023 18:30

8-4 M-Th and half day Friday, with about a 35 minute commute.

PearTreeBoat · 11/10/2023 03:11

I work full time, official hours are 0700-1330 but I'm usually out of the country drive by about 1315.
Commute is 45 mins to work and only 10 mins to get home because of the horrendous traffic in the mornings!
Would actually prefer a normal 9-5 as I currently have to get up at 0500 and bet just destroys my body clock

OhDoh · 11/10/2023 03:16

Leave at 6.10 start at 6.30. Finish at 4 home by 4.30 - 45 hours plus 30 min lunch which I work through usually

RantyAnty · 11/10/2023 03:42

Full time 10am start 30 second commute

VashtaNerada · 11/10/2023 03:46

Leave at 6:30 and get home at 18:30 (teacher). Very jealous of those who can wfh but we do get excellent (albeit unpaid) holidays.

Bluegreenseasoffoam · 11/10/2023 03:57

When not busy, 8.30/9.00 - 18.00
When busy, 9.00 - 22.00 or 23.00. Less on Friday evening.
Busy or not busy is a many week thing, not daily fluctuations.
Limited by stamina.
I’m also exhausted, and getting fat
I’m >50

MintJulia · 11/10/2023 04:12

I get up at 6.30, get ds sorted and onto the school bus, then home to start work at 8am or 8.15.

An hour for lunch,. Work through until 5.15, then school pickup.

I travel into London once a week.

I'm 60 and that pretty much wipes me out.

wearedonnnne · 11/10/2023 04:32

41hrs

730am-830pm 2 days (partner does school run)

730-245 wed ( school pickup)

915-245 (school drop and collect)

915- when hours are completed

30mins commute

PrudeyTwoShoes · 11/10/2023 05:06

Primary school teacher: 8am - 6pm, Monday - Wednesday. I also work an average of 1-2 hrs on the weekend in addition to this (can be a lot more when reports are due etc.). School hours (for the children) are 8:30 - 3:30. I'm only a 5 minute drive away, not taking into account my own DCs' drop offs.

Fifireee · 11/10/2023 05:10

Leave at 6.30am get in for 7
Finish around 5.30pm

Goldencup · 11/10/2023 05:15

Senior manager in the NHS start between 7:30 and 8:30 finish between 4:30 and 6:30 on call on top of that. Offically 40 hours a week. Hours and site very variable WFM usually 2/3 days a week commute between 10 minutes and 2.5 hours at other times. I am well paid. I will keep this up for another 5 -7 years then definitely drop down ideally to 4 days a week 39 weeks/ year. I am 47.

Goldencup · 11/10/2023 05:17

Should have said DCs are 19 & 17 so no school run/ childcare.

garlictwist · 11/10/2023 05:22

I normally walk to work which takes 15 mins. I have a broken foot at the moment so having to get Ubers which are about five mins.

Sometimes I work from home but I prefer to go in as I get a bit bored and lonely at home.

I work 30 hours a week whenever I want between Monday and Friday. I usually work more at the start of the week and have Fridays off.

Danaeofathens · 11/10/2023 05:23

Civil service - 1hr 15min commute each way, I work 8-4 4 days a week. It sucks. Would rather wfh.

MinnieMountain · 11/10/2023 05:40

9-5:30 3 days a week. My commute is a 10 minute bike ride once I’ve dropped DS at school. I WFH 1 day a week. I’m 44.

burntoutnurse · 11/10/2023 05:47

For a day shift I leave at 5:15 as it's a nightmare to park, I won't get home until 8:30pm (if I get out on time!)

For a night shift I leave between 5:30/5:45 pm and get home about 8:15am

I work 30 hours. So one week u do 3 x 12/13 hour shifts, the next I do 2 x 12/13 hours shifts

I am exhausted. All the time but I'm also menopausal and not sleeping at all.

Once our wedding is done next year I'll be dropping to 24 hours and making it up elsewhere with agency shifts which pay triple what I earn in the nhs, as sad as it is, and I never thought I'd be that person. My job is ruining my health, quite literally, it's a busy unit, but I will agency on smaller units
