Collective Punishment - No water, no food, no medicines

Lieblingsessen · 09/10/2023 19:19

I do not condone whatsoever what the Hamas attacks on civilians in Israel or their ideology

But surely, Israel laying siege to Gaza, preventing innocent civilians from accessing water, food, medicines, electricity for hospital equipment, is not justifiable. To collectively punish civilians who have no control over what Hamas or their government does. This is medieval.

Where is the outcry on the mainstream media about this? Surely it is not being anti-semitic to call out Israel, that retaliation is not unexpected, but collective punishment is horrendous.

Hamas are literally commuting commuting genocide against Jews. Seeing a mother and her two small children being taken as hostages is absolutely sickening. Going into houses and massacring people for being Israeli.

These people are terrorists and it blows my mind that anyone would support their cause. I know plenty of people who openly support Hamas, not just Palestinians either.

I have just had to turn off BBC News on R4. Apparently, the Israelis are taking journalists to the sites of some of the attacks by Hamaz.

I do hope those same journalists will request a similar visit to Gaza Angry.

Turn it off as too upsetting or too one sided?

ketchup07070 · 10/10/2023 19:11

Children should not be taken from their families and held in military prisons. If you wanted to look at reports from places like Amnesty, I think you would find there are allegations of torture and abuse as well. I don't have the stomach for it, but it is not a small thing that there are only 200 children imprisoned by Israel.

But Palestinians are on their own land. Not like French and England.

You are so out of arguments to defend your stupid position?

That is what everybody reproach to Israel. Denying Palestinians existance and rights and Palestinian territories. Don't get all pissy when it's pointed out.

Again and again, it's been pointed out to you that the Palestinians have refused peace settlements, right from the start they could have had roughly half the territory (and the larger Israeli portion included the Negev desert, which was seen as undesirable). Why would you allow full citizenship to people whose stated aim is the destruction of your country and probably the deaths of most of your people? Why would any nation on earth be that naive, that much of a pushover? Especially a Jewish state which is the ONLY ONE in the world and the only place which is meant to provide a safe haven after literally centuries of atrocities.

If you attack a country from its very inception and make it clear you will not accept its governance, why do you then get a right to return? And if you want your own state, why do you sabotage all chance of peace and an agreement that would bring that about? Why elect a terrorist group to be your leadership?

They elected hammas because they promised change and their gov was corrupt.
Best of a bad bunch at the time.
I struggle to to believe they voted for dictatorship though who would never allow them to vote again?

Now they live in terror and fear and as usual women and girls are the bottom of this heap.

Were women allowed to vote at the time Hamas were voted in? Were those who voted for Hamas familiar with its founding charter? And isn't it the case that Palestinian opinion polls show many, if not most, Gazans do support Hamas? Someone posted the references on the other thread.

@AUserNameIsNot has pretty much said they don't care if they (Palestinians) all died. What else do you call that?

Ah, you were referring to this one person and did not mean to imply that there was an ongoing genocide of Palestinians perpetrated by Israel?

If yes: I misunderstood and should have read more carefully.

Again and again, the settlements offered were shitty. It does not excuse or explain what Israel is doing now

Lord have mercy. The ugly truth is coming out. Someone needs to step up and protect Palestinians before the irreparable is done.

Israel won't stop unless it is stopped.

Edited

Yes. I fear that all that will happen is Israel will commit yet more horrendous war crimes, then the world will look back and go "oh, that was actually awful".

They need to be stopped, some Israeli politicians are beginning to sound deranged through the bloodthirstiness ("doomsday weapons" for crying out loud). Seems terrorism is okay if it's a government doing it.

Surely the journalists are mostly not suicidal? You'd hope not anyway.

The bbc do have a journalist in gaza so possibly they could show such footage. I believe he may be Palestinian, from what he was saying at lunchtime his family are with him. He was talking about the kids screaming through the night.

You know what, that is vile. Bad enough that you say that about any innocent human, but you include babies in that. Babies. For being Palestinian.
Disgusting beyond words.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 10/10/2023 19:17

I've seen references that people voted for change, any change in rather than for hammas.

Can they even read? I don't know if women can vote and whether they are allowed free votes. I think there is only one or a handful of female hammas politicians.

And how can they get rid of hammas?

Twillow · 10/10/2023 19:18

The fact that Israel is able to do this to Palestine just highlights the inequality of the situation there. The world has taken no serious actions on Israel for their disregard and infractions, so while not condoning terrorism it is hard not to understand what has brought Hamas to this.

The Egyptians have a border with Gaza.
Why don't they open the border and help them?

Egypt doesn’t want terrorists. Do you?

Do you expect to get a bigger slice of the pie after attacking the other side?

How appalling! Israel didn't go to this much trouble to harrass Palestinians out of their land for them to find a way to keep on living somehow! In the open air prison they sent them to!

Pesky animals!

You are crackers. That’s a gross misrepresentation. It’s the most densely populated area in the world. People crammed in. The majority can’t leave. Even before recent events 70% didn’t have access to a sewage network. The majority live in abject poverty and rely on aid.

by all means blame Hamas but it’s not the fault of the million kids that live there.

SomeCatFromJapan · 10/10/2023 19:20

I've supported the Palestinians for years. I've had massive arguments on here about it especially during the 2014 invasion.
I thought Hamas were an organisation of freedom fighters being tarred as terrorists to suit a narrative.

The footage I saw over the weekend completely changed my view. I've seen how Hamas really do want to kill every Jewish person they can lay their hands on. The level of barbarity they have stooped to, against women, girls, babies and the elderly, is like something from a nightmare. They filmed up, they uploaded it, they looked they were were having fun. They are as bad as Isis.

Surely before one starts wondering how they can get rid of them you have to first understand why they put them in power to start with? Someone above was feeling very sorry for the women of Gaza particularly which is why I want to know if they had a vote or not.

BurrosTail · 10/10/2023 19:20

@WhatIsTheTruth the human shield narrative has been peddled out by Israel for over a decade to “explain” the disproportionate civilian casualties on Palestinian side, but no substantial evidence has been found by amnesty international of systematic use of human shields, apart from a few cases. The UN report you quoted just mentioned it as one line but provided no evidence. The reason why the casualties are multiplied is because Israel gov bombs whole buildings and even UN base, these are systematic war crimes, not collateral damage. Having said that, Hamas is equally disgusting.

More info on human shields: “ Amnesty International, following an extensive investigation after the 2014 war, found no evidence that “Palestinian civilians have been intentionally used by Hamas or Palestinian armed groups during the current hostilities to ‘shield’ specific locations or military personnel or equipment from Israeli attacks.”
By contrast, there were a number of cases during these conflicts where human rights investigators found that advancing Israeli soldiers illegally used Palestinian civilians as human shields.
This did not stop both houses of Congress, by overwhelming bipartisan majorities, from passing resolutions insisting—without evidence—on Hamas’s use of human shields while criticizinghuman rights organizations, reputable international jurists, and other investigators for failing to say they did find such use” https://progressive.org/latest/human-shields-excuse-war-crimes-zunes-210617/

Congress Utilizes Myth of "Human Shields" to Justify War Crimes

No Gaza eyewitnesses found evidence of Hamas using human shields during the last conflict.

You'd think a race of people who'd experienced statelessness would have more empathy, wouldn't you.
