Recently been burgled and have now set up indoor and outdoor security cameras.

Nanny isn't happy about the inside ones. I'm happy to switch them off during the day but I don't want to get rid of them entirely.

Don't most people have cameras everywhere nowadays anyway ?

No, not normal.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 08/10/2023 14:23

Very few people have cameras inside the house. I'd be very uncomfortable with that as a nanny. It's rather different from having cameras in an office space.

Gifgirl · 08/10/2023 14:23

No, they don't.

I am a nanny and I would not be happy with this, even if I was told that you would switch them off, because inevitably you will forget.

@camerawomana if most people you know have cameras inside their house you have a very niche circle.

If someone is in your house during the day, then you don't need cameras during the day.

Put outside camera's on your entry points, fine. No need AT ALL to have them inside.

LorraineBainMcFly · 08/10/2023 14:25

Are they on while she's working as you think it was an inside job? She's stealing from you?
If you distrust nanny this much don't employ her!

Might as well shut this thread now. You've clearly made your mind up regardless of what anyone here will say.

For what it's worth YABU. Inside cameras are too far.

Wishingwell57 · 08/10/2023 14:25

An indoor camera is very intrusive. I'm not surprised your nanny doesn't want her every move recorded.

Ffsnotaconference · 08/10/2023 14:26

i know no one with indoor cameras.

Its creepy as fuck tbh.

jlpth · 08/10/2023 14:26

Perhaps you could show nanny how to switch on/off interior cameras so she will have confidence it's done?

I don't know anyone who has interior and exterior cameras. In fact, I only know two people who have outdoor cctv - one with a violent exh who is in and out of prison and one with a very expensive house which I imagine people would like to break in to.

Floralnomad · 08/10/2023 14:26

I don’t have cameras inside my house and I wouldn’t want to work in a house where they were present .

krakenworst · 08/10/2023 14:26

If you were babysitting for an evening, would you be happy with cameras watching you?

compromise might be to cover the lenses of all the cameras - nanny can do this to her satisfaction if any reassurance needed. That way if house is left empty for a while ( holiday etc) they can be uncovered and operational.

WhateverMate · 08/10/2023 14:27

Cameras inside the home are weird and no, most people don't have them nowadays.

However, most people do have cameras in their place of work and your home is her place of work.

Still a bit odd though that you think it's normal.

TerfTalking · 08/10/2023 14:27

Why would you want them in the house burglary or not? Presumably you catch dodgy people on the cameras outside then the alarm goes off when they enter and they scarper?

jlpth · 08/10/2023 14:27

I think it's fine to have all these cameras, it isn't creepy - you've been burgled and I'm wondering if some pp don't know what that feels like. But the nanny definitely needs to be able to switch on/off herself when she wants.

sparklefresh · 08/10/2023 14:27

There is no need for cameras inside whilst you/your nanny are there, unless they aren't there for security but for you to spy on your nanny. I don't know anyone with cameras in their house.

Indoors? I don’t know a single person with cameras set up inside their house. That’s a world away from a Ring doorbell.

Treebark · 08/10/2023 14:28

I don't know a single person who has indoor cameras - I'd hate it... YABU

Redglitter · 08/10/2023 14:28

The only cctv of any kind anyone I know has, is a Ring Doorbell. I dont know anyone with cameras inside their house.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 08/10/2023 14:28

How will cameras help stop you being burgled?

It might help the police catch the person, but won’t do much to prevent it. Even if you got a notice that someone was breaking in by the time the police arrived they would have left.

Outside cameras might act as a deterrent (but given how common they are I doubt that - hood up and wear a mask) but I really see no point in inside ones at all.

mollyfolk · 08/10/2023 14:28

We have cameras in our house but they only switch on when the alarm system is on and then activated. It sends images to the alarm monitoring company. It’s a fairly bog standard system so I would imagine it’s common. I don’t know anyone with cctv running inside their house 24/7 . I think there would be data protection issues with you videoing your nanny if you don’t have her agreement

camerawomana · 08/10/2023 14:29

Happy to cover them while she's there but I want them on when there is no one in the house. I have them on when we are home and don't see an issue for us tbh. Fair enough if she doesn't want them on but otherwise they're on for security.

PS I have been burgled, it's awful, but I still don't have or want interior cameras.

Ladyj84 · 08/10/2023 14:29

Outside fair enough inside nope and it can be breaking the law if on and someone working for you doesn't want them on
