Extremely rude woman at till in Superdrug

My husband thinks that I was overreacting about this, being my typical dramatic self but I absolutely believe it was very rude. I was in Superdrug buying my usual cosmetic things, vaseline, cheap nail polish etc, and everything is fine. However, when I get the till the cashier asks me if I want any perfume, in the typical salesperson way and I say no thank you to which she says "are you sure my love" as if to imply that perfume is needed and that I smell (I was wearing some.) Overall I find the whole thing extremely rude and was considering saying something to the manager next time I am in there as it came off very snarky and inappropriate and I do not think she was respecting the customer experience.

'Extremely rude' would have been "are you sure you stinky cunt". That was only marginally annoying, if anything.

It's an overreaction but if the staff are genuinely being trained not to accept the first no then this is ridiculous as well. How is that going to work?

Assistant: Would you like to buy some perfume?
Customer: No thank you
Assistant: Are you sure?
Customer: Oh go on then!

Op wasn’t rude to anyone, the question just made her insecure and she was checking her reaction. It’s the sort of question the mean girls at school ask, so easy to see why she might have had a bit of deja vu there.
The info on upselling is useful.

It's just sales. I've been annoyed especially when it's a condescending tone, as if I can't have thought it through properly and they're doing me a favour giving me a second chance! But it is just sales - not personal.

Maybe it would be better to complain to Superdrug about them pushing sales at the till rather than getting the girl who is just doing as she's told into trouble.
I used to be a pharmacist for them years ago and was pushed to sell postage stamps and mobile top ups by the manager! I refused to do so as it was totally inappropriate

As someone who used to work in Superdrug, I can guarantee she didn't want to ask you just as much as you didn't want her to ask you. If she did not ask you and a manager heard she would have got into a lot of trouble. You HAVE to push products onto customers- even though we hate asking so much we have no choice!! It's either that or lose our jobs

The girl on till has probably been told to push perfume and has said same thing about 100 times before she saw you.
I dont think its something to get bent out of shape over

Yabu I've worked in one of them shops and we would every so often get mystery shoppers and if we didn't upsell something we would get into trouble off the boss.

I did not expect this to have such a big/negative reaction and for that I apologise, but all I can say is, you did not hear her tone.

It does sound a bit far fetched to me but that said, we weren’t there to hear her tone and tone is everything.

But tbh usually if someone is trying to hint to another they are smelly, they’d more likely recommend deodorant or shower gel..,so it does sound to me as if she was just doing her job of selling perfume as I know the staff have to push certain offers.
