Extremely rude woman at till in Superdrug

My husband thinks that I was overreacting about this, being my typical dramatic self but I absolutely believe it was very rude. I was in Superdrug buying my usual cosmetic things, vaseline, cheap nail polish etc, and everything is fine. However, when I get the till the cashier asks me if I want any perfume, in the typical salesperson way and I say no thank you to which she says "are you sure my love" as if to imply that perfume is needed and that I smell (I was wearing some.) Overall I find the whole thing extremely rude and was considering saying something to the manager next time I am in there as it came off very snarky and inappropriate and I do not think she was respecting the customer experience.

I really , really HATE the whole up selling culture but tbh she was probably just following instructions- blame capitalism not her.

Superdrug employees are paid to push extras like SIM cards and judged by metrics like how many Beauty Card sign ups they get. I wouldn't assume that you were being asked if you wanted any perfume because you smelled.

Oh my gosh! I think you’re not being unreasonable at all. It drives me potty when staff have to try and upswell perfume but obviously don’t give a flying $$$. I’ve had the, ‘ ahh, but your eyebrows are so ugglleeee’ off suoerdrug. Never mind I got them done there a week ago.
it makes the whole experience ugly imo and really doesn’t put me in the mood to spend 50 odd quid on a spontaneous treat. There must be a better way to sell perfume .

also, worth noting that if your child is involved in the trans fashion, super drug will sell them actual testosterone ( also called steroids ) online, no questions asked, for 18 quid a week, delivered to your house. So IF your counselor/teacher/doctor says, ‘ don’t worry, massive waiting lists, lots of counseling before anything is prescribed’ .. they are wrong. And they won’t believe you that this is happening. Only saying because this has happened to my very vulnerable daughter. It could very easily happen to yours, no matter how much you think it won’t.

This reminds me of the time when my friend wanted to complain about not being ID'd for alcohol when she was 24. She thought the staff were really rude in thinking she was older than she looked. Thankfully I managed to make her see sense.

Upsellig stuff at the till is commonplace in lots of shops these days. If assistants don’t do it and you were a mystery shopper they could have been in all sorts of bother. Chill the fuck out. Seriously 🙄

TBH, if you smell, a wash with soap and anti-perspirant would sort that out... not masking it with perfume. Silly member of staff not knowing that.
