To want Jackie magazine to come back - exactly as it was?

If you don't remember Jackie this is meaningless. But it was THE heart of my 70s teen years.
Donny and Marie, David Cassidy, Marc and glam rock, Starsky and Hitch, disco, Cathy and Claire's problem page, quizzes, pop, very 70s drawings as illustrations for the fashion, beauty and story pages, posters ...

Yes. And Smash Hits

Toddlerteaplease · 05/10/2023 08:43

And Sugar!

LipRouge · 05/10/2023 08:44

Everything's available online so no real need for those sorts of magazines

Discomboobulated · 05/10/2023 08:45

I miss the 90's More magazine

KimberleyClark · 05/10/2023 08:48

Anyone remember Pink magazine?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/10/2023 08:48

There's a little book with loads of Cathy & Claire problems. Some are very funny (some aren't).

I got a cake recipe from Jackie magazine that I still use.

Mum was quite concerned first time I came home from school with a copy - I'd leapt from Bunty to Jackie in one single dizzying bound, which must have signified the lurch into adolescence.

Then with A levels my next shift was to Company magazine, and I can still see the face of the model on the edition I took with me when I left for university - and read it to destruction as a reminder of home.

Then at uni I fairly quickly moved on to Cosmopolitan. Well, I was on the pill ...

Now ... on the rare occasions I buy a mag it might be Woman & Home or Platinum.

Or if I'm feeling particularly racy, the Christmas Radio Times.

i loved seventeen with its free gift on the cover

MustbeFeverTree · 05/10/2023 08:53

I had the same hairdo as the model on the cover - oh how I loved my heated rollers!

I loved the illustrated stories where the blokes looked like Morten from A-Ha and the girls were equally gorgeous.

Teen mags went downhill when Oh Boy! and My Guy came on the market and they used photos of pasty looking teens to illustrate their stories. The boys all looked gormless!

DreamItDoIt · 05/10/2023 08:53

Loved Jackie and Blue Jeans. Happy Days 🙂.

KimberleyClark · 05/10/2023 08:58

One of the things I remember about Pink was a weekly picture story about a beautiful 20 something tv presenter called Sugar Jones. Only she was really (gasp shock horror) a “40 year old hag” wearing a wig and a hell of a lot of makeup.

Louise303 · 05/10/2023 08:59

And bunty i do not know if it also in the uk.

cathyandclaire · 05/10/2023 08:59

Signing in for duty!!!

Yep! And Mirabelle and Blue Jeans and Patches.

Before that I loved Bunty, June, Mandy. I can still remember the excitement of hearing my copy of June thud through the letterbox. Or going into town on a Saturday and buying a mag.

The Youth of Today don't know what they're missing 🙂

Needmorelego · 05/10/2023 09:03

I'd prefer Bunty and Tammy etc. I loved the stories. Graphic novels and comic books are hugely popular among tween/teen girls so once a week getting a new chapter of at least half a dozen different stories would be absolutely brilliant.

knackeredcat · 05/10/2023 09:03

Bring them all back! I love leafing through old Jackie and Blue Jeans annuals that I picked up for not very much in the 90s. I'll probably do that again over Christmas 😀

Smash Hits was always a favourite, especially for the lyrics. I have some copies going back to the early days, but bought it for the first time around 1987 when it became very surreal and funny. Black Type letters page, Reg "Reg" Snipton, “Fab Macca Wacky Thumbs Aloft” and so on. 😆

I used to LOVE More magazine!! I used to think I was so grown up reading that 😆 God what a flashback!

EmmaPaella · 05/10/2023 09:09

I loved Just 17. My sister’s copies at first which I probably read way too young!

Also Smash Hits and Look-In. Judy annuals with the stories.

wishfulthinking16 · 05/10/2023 09:10

I still pluck my eyebrows using the method from Jackie mag in the 80s. And my day to day makeup, although I have evolved to smoky eyes in the last decade or so for the odd night out.

Dalekjastninerels · 05/10/2023 09:12

I loved Jackie and Blue Jeans and Smash Hits and when I was younger Mandy and Tracy and Judy and Bunty and very little Toby and Twinkle.

I have collected all of the original Jackie annuals and they are fabulous. I love reading them. You can buy some cheaply on ebay.

Bbq1 · 05/10/2023 09:13

I have some original mags too.

TastyLikeARaindrop · 05/10/2023 09:13

Oh I can smell that magazine!

I always turned straight to the problem pages.

Loved the tips on how to snog perfectly, how to make your lips kissable 💋 etc

Entered every competition but never won anything.

The free gifts were always really good. A coin purse that I used for years.

I remember the thrill of getting Just Seventeen when I was only 16 😆

cathyandclaire · 05/10/2023 09:13

I remember following their ‘Getting ready for a date/party’ article religiously at 15- even down to lining my stomach with a glass of milk!! 😜
