Just noseying on Rightmove - how did any of this get past building regs? I thought the lack of handrail on the stairs was bad enough until I saw the landing!

The first time I got steaming in that house I'd end up killing myself!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 01/10/2023 23:22

It's in very good nick for a house that looks like it was last decorated some time in the early 90s.

watcherintherye · 01/10/2023 23:22

Pic 24, with its zig-zag optical illusion walkway makes me think of one of those nightmarish ‘escape room’ type houses in The Avengers (original, not Marvel) that Steed and Mrs. Peel were always finding themselves trapped in.

Jellybean23 · 01/10/2023 23:24

At least the carpet won't show the crumbs. All that money lavished on it but the the beds have no headboards.

DontDareToGetOld · 01/10/2023 23:29

There MUST be a local mumsnetter who could view and report back...

@Oioicaptain is that the place that was in the Discover of Witches tv series?

In the hallway under the stairs there’s a table with family pics on in and there’s at least one of a child. Maybe the sellers are rich mountaineers?

Perhaps that table of photos is a memorial to all the people who have plunged to their deaths over the years?

The table is quite full. Just saying.

Bet it's a Probate sale.

And the previous owner had a little 'accident'.

😂I said this as soon as I saw that landing.

DH told me I've watched too many episodes of Midsomer Murders 😄

JanglingJack · 01/10/2023 23:33

Jesus - vertigo on pic 23. I wouldn't last a day in that house!

What an odd miss match of decor too, floaty peach to royal carpet, to the room with the cheap off cut...

Hedges put me off, just doing my 3 sided straight one every year does my head in.

Chocolatesandroses · 01/10/2023 23:33

It looks like a care home , bloody awful I’m having anxiety just looking at them stairs .

theresamooseloose · 01/10/2023 23:34

Christ on a scooter. There is lot going on in these photos. Lol. I really don’t know what to say.

EstherFester · 01/10/2023 23:34

😱

Aquamarine1029 · 01/10/2023 23:37

This is INSANE.

How can there not be any railings? WHY would you not want any? This is madness.

That whole house gave me the WTF feeling. I got dizzy looking at #23. The picture of the one bdrm where it has steps up to the french doors and the big heavy drapes that drag on the floor would have me on my face way too often. I would need to invest in crutches, ice packs and elastic bandages. The kitchen is very underwhelming, the one bath with the toilet up on the landing right by the tub was strange and what was on the other side of the tub? Between the carpet, drapes and layout, it's a "no thank you" from me. The iron gates are cool though.

LegArmpits · 01/10/2023 23:40

It's like a super fancy Sims 1 house 😂😂❤️

Every few years the house goes on the market after the previous owners have died from household mishaps. Just bad luck, I am sure. 😉

EmmaEmerald · 01/10/2023 23:40

Maybe Spiderman lived there and didn't have time to change the carpets.

Beastieboys · 01/10/2023 23:41

This as well ....it's all a bit eek

Thenose · 01/10/2023 23:47

The garden looks smashing, though.

Saschka · 01/10/2023 23:47

As somebody pointed out upthread, if you survive the stairs and landing, the main bedroom has French doors out onto an unguarded flat room.

The architect seems determined to have somebody plunge to their death, don’t they?

MojoMoon · 01/10/2023 23:48

You could add a bannister to the stairwell and it would look ok and make it less of a accident waiting to happen.

But those mad floating deathtrap upper corridors? It would look super weird if you added hand rails to those or even glass screens. What do you do with them?!

Passepartoute · 01/10/2023 23:49

I'd want to negotiate a £500K reduction for all the work that needs doing. I'd have to fill in those gaps in the landing floor, put banisters on the stairs, totally redo the kitchen and bathrooms, take that stupid pillar out, take out most of the bushes in the garden and remodel it - and that's just for starters.

I thought you were being dramatic but omg no

jenpil · 01/10/2023 23:52

Oh my! Some of the colour schemes in those rooms are gross.

Grey cabinets with magnolia walls in the kitchen?

Peach walls in the lounge?

And the layout is enough to make anyone dizzy.

Best to knock it down and start again.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/10/2023 23:52

thefirstmrsrochester · 01/10/2023 22:05

I’d have to crawl up the stairs and across the landing on my hands and knees.

Quite terrifying.

Agree ! I have nightmares about houses like this. In my nightmares I have to crawl along ledges or bannisterless stairs . It is making me fearful just looking at the pictures of the staircase and landing.

Ratlingbow · 01/10/2023 23:53

Are you sure the upper landing at the top of the stairs doesn't have a glass bannister? I think it looks like it may have. I know a couple who have people over all the time with un- bannistered stairs and they seem OK ( they don't have children obviously!)
