How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

I’ve recently moved and I’m too far away from McDonald’s now 😢

But when I lived near one, probably once a week/once a fortnight at the weekend. My only non home cooked meal of the week so I don’t think it’s bad.

Hygeelady · 01/10/2023 15:34

Of we are travelling or a half term treat so probably on average once a month and they don't have other takeaways or anything like that. I give them nuggets and chips at home once a week but other than that we are probably a bit too strict on what they eat 🤷‍♀️

smallshinybutton · 01/10/2023 15:34

Fine if they are having a salad

fruitbrewhaha · 01/10/2023 15:35

Never. I think I’ve only had it a couple of times. Kids have a couple of times, they like the idea of it but the reality is not so good.

Nomoreclots · 01/10/2023 15:37

Me never..dd and dh occasionally

Mummyme87 · 01/10/2023 15:38

Mine have one once a week on a Friday. Me and DH have a curry/Chinese. Otherwise they have a healthy balanced diet.

Grandchild never. She is vegetarian and the veggie nuggets are too spicy .
My children probably about once every couple of months when they were children.

Valerianandfoxglovesoup · 01/10/2023 15:39

Quite a lot, whenever we fancy it, especially for breakfast things. It's not poison. They deliver within 5 minutes for where we currently live so convenient. I have been known to order something just because I can't be arsed to make a cup of tea 😀 the novelty soon wears off for food though, it's not really a big favourite with us

What child is eating a salad at McDonald's?!

Mine probably have it once a month? I don't really like McDonald's myself but it's not the worst thing they could be eating.

BristolBlueGlasses · 01/10/2023 15:41

The last time I went to McDonalds was 1988.

Comedycook · 01/10/2023 15:42

Once or twice a month max... usually when I'm too exhausted to cook. It's convenience rather than a treat for me.

The last time I went to McDonalds was 1988.

It was obviously memorable??

I didn't take dd when she was little because I preferred to take her to independent cafes with nicer food.

She started going when she was a teen and going into town with friends.

I think once a week is fine if the rest of the week you eat healthily. I used to do a couple of lazy, junk food meals in the week so if I had taken dd to McDonald's, it would have been less often.

ItWasntMyFault · 01/10/2023 15:42

I had it a couple of weeks ago for the first time in about 6 years. My kids (now adults) probably have it once a month or so.

FreddiesTeeth · 01/10/2023 15:42

Once a year or less

S72 · 01/10/2023 15:42

Maybe two or three times a year for breakfast at the motorway services.

Never for lunch/dinner.

Badbadbunny · 01/10/2023 15:42

Once or twice a month is fine, it's what we did.

BeyondMyWits · 01/10/2023 15:43

Never. We got a milkshake in one on holiday once, it was nice, but not keen on burgers, nuggets and skinny chips,so not for us.

Pinkchilli · 01/10/2023 15:43

Once a month now the kids have Cottoned onto happy meals. I never really went before the kids got old enough for a happy meal. We live 2 mins away from one.

TheThingIsYeah · 01/10/2023 15:43

Used to go every couple of weeks then more sporadically, until about 3 months ago after which I decided I'm done. Never again. The place is like a fucking zoo. The whole queuing system is daft. 30 people milling around waiting for their order - half of which is sat on the side for ages whilst the staff flap around marrying up the drinks with the scrag end fries and the limp burgers. Oh and what have they done to strawberry milkshakes? Unbearably sweet.

Millybob · 01/10/2023 15:43

Never. You're right, once a fortnight is far too often - should be a rare treat for birthdays or days out, a handful of times a year. Not part of anybody's regular diet. Get your husband to read Supersize me and tell him that even if he's buying smaller portions, that's what he's doing to his kids' healthy bodies, just more slowly.

Berninaa · 01/10/2023 15:43

Rarely, probably been ten times in my lifetime. Just not the sort of food I enjoy.

OhYetAnotherBrickInTheWall · 01/10/2023 15:43

Bizarrely, I worked out yesterday (when I went past one) that I’ve not had a McDonalds for over 10 years. Nor a Burger King, KFC etc.

I’ve had 2 Honest burgers though. Mad that I know this, but I just don’t eat that kind of food often (clearly!) and the other times I’ve had a burger, I’m made it myself from chicken or lamb.

TheBirdintheCave · 01/10/2023 15:43

We don't go. My husband hates it and I'm not a fan of the food either (I'd rather Burger King or KFC). Unfortunately we were forced into one in Italy last year when it was pouring with rain and we needed lunch as our toddler was getting cross.

gotomomo · 01/10/2023 15:43

Depends on what we are doing, if we are at the big shops we pop in, occasionally weekdays dp nips through the drive through or we stop on the way to choir practice. If on trips at the services sometimes. It's not a regular pattern because it could be 3 weeks running then not for 2 months.
