How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

How often do I eat there? Never. 😀

Well, for nuance, never in the last about 7 years. We used to go there as a very occasional friday afternoon treat (DS1 was into the Happy Meals tat) and back then, autistic DS2 ate their fries, which was a win with a child who mostly lived on thin air.

Luckily, DS1 grew out of the stuff and we mutually decided we - and the planet - didn't need any more plastic crap in the house. It's ultra-processed garbage! There's ALWAYS a better alternative to a Maccy D! 😃

There's never a parent as sanctimonious as the Mumsnet parent who Doesn't Do McDonald's Grin

Except that’s not what I said. I said I think DH goes too often. I didn’t say they shouldn’t have it at all.

I don't think they meant you personally OP. This thread has brought out a lot of unhinged maccy d haters.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 05/10/2023 22:32

Never.

ellyeth · 05/10/2023 22:45

Grandson loves Macdonalds, his sister refuses to go there - doesn't like the food, endeavours to be vegetarian and has watched documentaries re how food is made, etc.

Personally, I think it is OK to have the occasional Macdonalds - say once a month - but not a good idea on a regular basis.

PercyPigInAWig · 05/10/2023 22:49

I don’t eat mcDonalds but DC go occasionally with others, maybe 2 or 3 times per year though I expect when they’re teenagers that might increase for a while.

I would be seriously unimpressed with DH taking children there any more than once per month.

Haha true story. It’s just making me want a Big Mac and fries. Delicious!

How oddly specific.

Mn is obviously not reflected in real life where McD are busy with queues at the drive through.

Rhaenys · 07/10/2023 06:50

I don’t live close enough to go very often, and I’ve been dieting so I’ve not actually been for over a year. Under normal circumstances though I’d go about 4 times a year.

I'm interested in the people who call it a 'treat' - not even just McDonald's but all sorts of take aways being referred to as a treat. Isn't it just an option? Do you teach your kids this is a treat rather then just something you have occasionally?

I have never framed take out as a treat as I don't want that kind of 'special' attached to it. A treat to me is something good, and I don't think it's helpful to refer to food as that. It's just something we can choose to have, or not.

It’s a treat because you don’t have to cook it, and it isn’t really an option where I live.

Fair point, but I was more meaning when people refer to it as a treat to their children. Also, those who do have it as an option. Of course if it's not an options my comment doesn't apply to you.

Comedycook · 07/10/2023 11:09

McDonald's isn't a a treat for me...but a takeaway like an Indian or Chinese is, because it's quite expensive and the food is something I just cannot recreate at home.

HRTQueen · 07/10/2023 11:18

I think once a fortnight is fine

I never use food as a treat going out to eat is the treat . Sometimes we eat it but not to often as other foods are better for us

now ds is a teenager he eats loads of junk food especially fried chicken, teenage boys walking around with a fried chicken takeaway box (not kfc the cheaper places) seems to be a rite of passage in south London even his friends who are vegetarian will get just chips so they too can join in 😆

ove never made too much of a fuss about food ds eats well at home most of the time

neverbeenskiing · 07/10/2023 11:27

I tend to take the DC to Mcdonald's in the school holidays, or if we're travelling back from a long day out somewhere, but its not somewhere we go regularly. It probably works out out at 4 or 5 times a year.

I don't think Mcdonald's once a fortnight will do them any harm if their diet is otherwise healthy, OP.

We classed it as a treat as it was something DT’s enjoyed and looked forward to. It was the eating out or drive through which made it different from a burger and fries meal made at home.
