How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

We stopped going there, the local gangs have taken over the place now so it's not safe to take my kids or even get a drivethru Sad

Badbadbunny · 01/10/2023 15:52

@IDespairOfTheHumanRace

Ditto KFC, BurgerKing,

They used to be a lot better than MaccyD, but we've been really disappointed the last few times - surly staff, cold food, etc even though they're a lot quieter and less manic. Last time at Burgerking was a killer - stood waiting like a lemon for 35 minutes in a virtually empty place - they were really on a go-slow.

I only tend to go as a 'late evening munchies' sort of thing on the way home from somewhere - not for a meal, but I don't have small dc anymore. I went more then, as it is quick, predictable, useful for using in a strange town or City, know you can use the toilet there, know it is affordable sort of thing.

However, I wouldn't call it a lazy tea (too much hassle to get them with shoes in / in the car / negotiate the traffic and queues etc). If I were going for a lazy tea, I'd go for a sort of bean on toast/ Or a 'get something from the freezer and put it on an oven tray' meal (fish finger / kievs / pizza ) , or sandwiches, or eggs in some form - none of which are 'crap'.

I’m with you on the last part - for me a lazy tea is mac n cheese or pasta with sauce and a few frozen veg thrown in.

About 2-3 times a month, basically whenever we go shopping on a Saturday which is most weeks. I don't always have a McDonald's meal, sometimes I will have something healthier or eat before we go out, but the teens will have nuggets and chips.

Costalife · 01/10/2023 15:52

Roughly every 3 weeks or so

owlsmummy · 01/10/2023 15:52

about 1-2 times per year. twice a month is way too much considering what a highly processed shit that is.

FawltyTower · 01/10/2023 15:52

Probably once every other month.

We never really go there 'on purpose'. It's always when passing and by chance. At a service station...or it's 6pm on the way home from a day out and we've had no food thoughts, then the golden arches suddenly appear on the horizon...

Abfab63 · 01/10/2023 15:52

My Dp is exactly the same as yours. Wouldn't think twice about it and it bugs me. I'm ok with once a month or so but more than that seems excessive. We have a staggering amount of happy meal toys 🙈

Littlemissweepy · 01/10/2023 15:53

Twice a year roughly

pizzaHeart · 01/10/2023 15:53

nutbrownhare15 · 01/10/2023 15:50

We don't unless there's nothing else open and the kids are starving (this happened once).

This^ is my approach as well plus if all this happens when we are travelling, otherwise we just go home.

Ilovelurchers · 01/10/2023 15:53

I go with my daughter probably once a fortnight or so for a bit of a treat. And very occasionally I have the breakfast on the way to work if I need cheering up! I walk right past one every day - it is tempting!

I think going once a week is ok - too much more than that not ideal.

Ultimately you have to decide whether it is a battle worth picking with your husband. They are his kids too - both of your views on what they eat are equally valid I would say.

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 01/10/2023 15:54

Never. Have a Burger King once or twice a year when we stop at a particular motorway service station I like that has one.

CustardySergeant · 01/10/2023 15:54

I've never eaten at McDonalds. I've been in one once, when my daughter was invited to a child's birthday party that was being held there. The kind of food they have there doesn't appeal to me at all.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 01/10/2023 15:55

Last time was 1984. I wish to add, it was a burger that was bought for me by a friend while waiting for a train. Actually IN McDonald’s to sit down? About 1980.

Soundsmadeup · 01/10/2023 15:55

At least once a week, sometimes twice.

gabbyaggy · 01/10/2023 15:55

About 5 times a week when living in Sydney, l didn't like the Bondi franchise, I preferred Bondi Junction.

Have the odd Happy Meal, but not the same as 25 years ago while backpacking.

CoreopsisEverywhere · 01/10/2023 15:55

I went in June, at ds1’s request, on a university open day.

the last time before that was 2019

Lizzieregina · 01/10/2023 15:55

My kids had it as their Saturday night treat with a movie. It was my one day off from cooking. I didn’t eat it then or now, and my adult kids rarely go there nowadays.

HappyPurrrsday · 01/10/2023 15:56

I live a three minute walk from a McDonald’s. We probably go once every 3-4 months.

Bunnyfuller1 · 01/10/2023 15:56

This is MN, home of super-mummies, who will compete to express the most disdain at fast food.

’Mac-what?’ ‘Oh dear, no, Fenella and Rupes only really like my home-made hummus with a pile of raw veggies and some figs’.

Dontcallmescarface · 01/10/2023 15:56

Before DD left for uni 13 years ago, maybe once every couple of months to the drive through to pick her up something....since then never. Never eaten 1 either.

Rummikub · 01/10/2023 15:57

we had one yesterday. Probably every week or fortnight. Go through phases.

I do remember taking the dc
and saying you can have what you like. They picked fish fingers, carrot sticks and milk. I was aghast 😂

like pp I also like to go into McDonald’s abroad to compare the menus/ prices.

daffodilandtulip · 01/10/2023 15:57

Teen DS has me taking him around once a month. Teen DD won't ever go now, after spending six months working there 🥴

Floralnomad · 01/10/2023 15:58

To eat something probably every 4/6 weeks , usually breakfast on the way to somewhere however I use the drive thru for drinks a couple of times a week at least .

MammaTo · 01/10/2023 15:58

Have a breakfast once a week normally of a weekend.
