How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

Our 9yo has had it twice. I forget when I last had it.

SharonEllis · 01/10/2023 15:44

Once a year absolute max, probably less.

Timmytap18 · 01/10/2023 15:44

Once a fortnight seems fine especially if he's away alot. It's something they can do all together and they enjoy. I can't see the harm.

DynamicK · 01/10/2023 15:44

Hardly ever. The last time was last summer on a road trip.
We do eat fast food. Just not McDonald's.

FuckingHellAdele · 01/10/2023 15:44

About once every three months or so. Usually after reading a thread about them on here Grin

And also whenever we go abroad- it's become a family tradition that when abroad, the local McD's (if there is one) must be sampled and scored.

TheBitterBoy · 01/10/2023 15:45

When DS was little it was probably once per school holidays. But I will caveat that with I don't like McDonald's much, and so we'd be at Wagamamas, Pizza Express or Nandos about once per school holidays too. Now he's old enough to go on his own he's there once a week with his mates after footie training.

Summerishere123 · 01/10/2023 15:45

We seem to go through phases but have been twice this week. Once with my parents and as part of a birthday party.

Lemonpledge · 01/10/2023 15:45

About three times per year, and only for convenience when travelling. It's not a 'treat' for us though.

BristolBlueGlasses · 01/10/2023 15:46

TumblingTower · 01/10/2023 15:42

It was obviously memorable??

We'd just bought our wedding rings and wanted a celebration lunch. I know!! We were young and poor.

TumblingTower · 01/10/2023 15:46

Millybob · 01/10/2023 15:43

Never. You're right, once a fortnight is far too often - should be a rare treat for birthdays or days out, a handful of times a year. Not part of anybody's regular diet. Get your husband to read Supersize me and tell him that even if he's buying smaller portions, that's what he's doing to his kids' healthy bodies, just more slowly.

We have totally different views on food
and nutrition. I’m keen to avoid UPF’s etc in the home. He would happily serve them up for every meal, it’s very frustrating. He’s not ignorant to any of the literature he just doesn’t care!

I’m not against McD’s I would just prefer they had it less.

never really, last time was a few years ago and it wasnt my choice.

Used to go every couple of weeks then more sporadically, until about 3 months ago after which I decided I'm done. Never again. The place is like a fucking zoo. The whole queuing system is daft. 30 people milling around waiting for their order - half of which is sat on the side for ages whilst the staff flap around marrying up the drinks with the scrag end fries and the limp burgers. Oh and what have they done to strawberry milkshakes? Unbearably sweet.

Yes, have to agree about the way it's prepared/served these days. I think the JustEast and Deliveroo orders have ruined it. Drive through queues are now very slow, even if only a few cars in front, and going in to order also takes a lot longer. The staff are clearly prioritising deliveries and the prep/serving areas are clearly too small for so many staff processing so many orders. We used to enjoy them, but the last few times have had ridiculous waits and then cold food (clearly been stuck on a shelf). At least you get vouchers when you complain online!

Natsku · 01/10/2023 15:47

I think I've been about three times in the last 16 years Grin But other burger chain that I prefer, we go to maybe a few times a year. We don't have any in our town so its only when we're travelling somewhere.

KeepNameChanging81 · 01/10/2023 15:48

Generally if we go to a service station, otherwise I’d say once a month max.

TumblingTower · 01/10/2023 15:48

I will add my kids aren’t even that fussed about it..! It’s just the height of convenience for him.

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 01/10/2023 15:48

Never - I had one once and swore never again would conveyor belt, cardboard food pass my lips

Ditto KFC, BurgerKing, Nandos et al. You can make much nicer versions at home, more cheaply, better tasting and decent portion sizes.

gotomomo · 01/10/2023 15:49

Oh and I do like to go in them abroad to compare the menu - had chicken curry and rice in Sri Lanka Grin

Portakalkedi · 01/10/2023 15:49

Once a year maybe, but really from necessity if away from home and there's not much alternative. It's always disappointing and never looks/tastes like you hope it will.

tuvamoodyson · 01/10/2023 15:49

Never.

Haha we do this too, I was very happy in Spain this year to have a beer with my McDonald’s 😂

nutbrownhare15 · 01/10/2023 15:50

We don't unless there's nothing else open and the kids are starving (this happened once).

allthehops · 01/10/2023 15:50

Once a year if we've stayed at a place that doesn't have anywhere else convenient for breakfast close by.

UsingChangeofName · 01/10/2023 15:50

I only tend to go as a 'late evening munchies' sort of thing on the way home from somewhere - not for a meal, but I don't have small dc anymore. I went more then, as it is quick, predictable, useful for using in a strange town or City, know you can use the toilet there, know it is affordable sort of thing.

However, I wouldn't call it a lazy tea (too much hassle to get them with shoes in / in the car / negotiate the traffic and queues etc). If I were going for a lazy tea, I'd go for a sort of bean on toast/ Or a 'get something from the freezer and put it on an oven tray' meal (fish finger / kievs / pizza ) , or sandwiches, or eggs in some form - none of which are 'crap'.

Alargeoneplease89 · 01/10/2023 15:51

Once in a blue moon, kids would love it more but I think its expensive and not very nice.

Snoopystick · 01/10/2023 15:51

DS 17 works at McDonald’s part-time and often sees the same people including his teachers week in and week out. Not sure from some of the comments that regular McDonald’s eaters will put their heads above the parapet. We usually have one monthly’ish - often just a McFlurry.
