How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

👋🏽 diverse ethnic background

tbf we have discovered a fab takeaway that does traditional snacks and its half the price of McDonald’s but it’s a bit of a trek otherwise it would win hands down.

Justgorgeous · 01/10/2023 16:10

Twice this year.

FlyingFlamingo · 01/10/2023 16:10

A few times a year when we are travelling usually. I’m vegetarian and don’t like fake meat so the mcplant doesn’t appeal to me at all, and the pesto things are tasteless. I miss the vegetable deluxe!
I do like a cheesy bite when they are on the menu though Grin

Beachwalker66 · 01/10/2023 16:10

No more than once a year.

Alwaysfreeolives · 01/10/2023 16:10

If we are travelling at meal time then we will go in the services or at a theme park . Used to be every couple of weeks just as a night off from cooking but we don’t tend to do that now

About twice a year on average. Our nearest is 100 miles away but even if it was nearer it would be a rare treat.

I get what you mean about you never being able to give them a rare treat though as we have a similar thing here with treats. DP buys so many for dd that I feel I can't. Eg he bought 3 packs of large ice lollies in one weekend, then two weeks later another 2 packs. He won't eat them, and I don't that often, so they're basically all for a three year old. She's had two, and there's no room in the freezer. The other day he bought her an ice-cream in a cafe, then an ice-lolly in the shop next door as they left. It's ridiculous!

I don’t think the kids really see it as a treat as neither of them ever ask for it.

But yes, sometimes I’d like to have that as “CBA” option and don’t feel I can. My DH doesn’t need a CBA option - he must cook 2-3x a year!

The last time I went to McDonalds was 1988.

I’m similar. I think it was late 1980’s. Wasn’t memorable which is why I never been since.

WaitingfortheTardis · 01/10/2023 16:15

Our visits are when we are travelling to see family a long way away, that means we go ages without visiting and then more in a holiday time. We end up using the service stations for a hot meal either there or back (occasionally both depending on timings) and we go for either the noodle bar or McDonald's. Dd doesn't like chips so she has fish fingers with a fruit bag and a milk - our choices there are more unhealthy!

We don't live near enough one for regular visits, which is fortunate as I can see how that might be tempting.

Greycheck · 01/10/2023 16:15

Youngest had McDs every Friday for tea (the rest of us have Chinese/Indian but he doesn't like that). We've all had McDs breakfast this morning though because I could not be arsed with making lunch and that does until tea 😁

QuizzlyBears · 01/10/2023 16:16

I go probably once or twice a week, my order is always the same - either just a large Diet Coke (McDonald’s Coke hits differently I swear) or a Diet Coke and whatever the £1.99 wrap of the day is. I travel a lot for work and usually eat lunch in my car so it’s an easy option.

ReverseFerret · 01/10/2023 16:16

Everything about McDonald's is shit..
The quality
The ethics
Cleanliness
Atmosphere

Taking your child there is just inforcing low standards

MrsJellybee · 01/10/2023 16:19

I used to go all the time as a teen. I’m of the generation that had primary school birthdays there too.

Daughter’s been twice. She’s 9. She only likes the nuggets and milkshake.

Pigeonqueen · 01/10/2023 16:21

Everyone I know goes once or twice a week. And that’s living in Norfolk where the nearest one to us is 17 miles away and people still go…. I do enjoy a McDonald’s. We go as a family maybe once every couple of weeks and sometimes I enjoy a breakfast on my own. It’s cheap, nice and a quick way of eating out. Yeah it’s not healthy but you don’t have to eat healthily all the bloody time. It’s fine.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 01/10/2023 16:23

Never. I live pretty close to one bit it just doesn't appeal to me

BusyBees1234 · 01/10/2023 16:24

Never

Same where I am in Merseyside. Its a really normal thing to do.

LadyWiddiothethird · 01/10/2023 16:25

I go in once a week,I swim 1,000 m a day,so don’t feel guilty. The gym also happens to be beside McD’s.It is mostly a drive through and it’s always quiet inside and pleasant. To much of a temptation for me,I love the food!

My grandchildren rarely eat in there, one never does.

Rosscameasdoody · 01/10/2023 16:26

Occasionally up until DH was served a burger on bread that was green mouldy. Since then, never.

mrsbyers · 01/10/2023 16:26

Probably once every six weeks

Simonjt · 01/10/2023 16:26

About once a fortnight, I like the McFalafel and sweet potato fries.

whiteroseredrose · 01/10/2023 16:26

We never did as not to my taste (veggie) and as a result DC still don't even consider it (20 and 23).

I think as an adult you’re totally at liberty to make your own choices and it’s totally at your discretion. Children slightly different.

Maybe twice a year, as I don't actually enjoy it much, apart from the coffee and apple pies.

DH, maybe once a month. DS as often as he can 😂. Maybe he gets it about once every couple of months

pitterypattery00 · 01/10/2023 16:31

I'm genuinely astonished that many posters go regularly. I don't know anyone who goes to McDonalds at all. The one in my city centre seems to be full of teenagers and litter. I don't see the appeal at all, and that's before considering the quality of the food, ethics of food production etc. But it's a hugely successful business so I guess lots of people think differently to me.

MotherofPearl · 01/10/2023 16:31

Never. I think my older two DC have each been once or twice, but my youngest (who is 7) has never been.
