How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

We'd just bought our wedding rings and wanted a celebration lunch. I know!! We were young and poor.

That's lovely 😊

SayingwhatIreallythink · 01/10/2023 15:59

Me -about once a week, as I have a long commute and work late so it’s a dinner I can have in the car. kids less often.
I really like the food - it’s not all just nuggets and burgers.

jazzyfips · 01/10/2023 15:59

Once a year

SnowflakeCity · 01/10/2023 16:00

We haven't been for years. We aren't virtuos we just live 40mins away from the nearest one so it's just never on our radar. Tbh we are in Ireland and fast food is expensive, the few times I have had it in the last year I ended up just regretting the waste of money on disappointing food. Teen Dd probably has fast food of sometype a few times a month when she goes with her mates though. Teen ds is far more into the coffee shop scene than the fast food one.

londonrach · 01/10/2023 16:00

In the last year...three maybe four times ..all in the holidays and once as everything was closed and we been on holiday and no food in the house..... Sunday closing.....

Very occasionally. Usually when travelling somewhere and there are no other quick, cheap options. I’d say 2-3 times a year.

If you enjoy it, I think once a fortnight is fine.

SymbolicSymbals · 01/10/2023 16:02

About once a quarter, almost always either after having a drink or when hungover! The last time was a couple of weeks ago in London after a work event, where the canapés were very disappointing.

Devilsmommy · 01/10/2023 16:03

@Bunnyfuller1 exactly what I was thinking 🤣 they'd be shocked at the amount of frozen food I eat, never mind the maccies😆😆😆

TheWayTheLightFalls · 01/10/2023 16:03

Once a week for me (breakfast). Kids - once every three months or so?

ApolloandDaphne · 01/10/2023 16:03

I used to take my DD weekly after swimming. She didn't seem to come to any harm. Her lessons were on a Friday after school and i liked she was fed so we could have our dinner later and have something we liked. She was a fussy eater back then.

Justcallmebebes · 01/10/2023 16:03

Last time, for food, was lockdown. Have been more recently for a take away coffee. Not a fan of junk food

lostean · 01/10/2023 16:03

About 5-10 times a year, some of those times will just be getting a cold drink in the summer. I like the food, but rarely eat out and aways have a packed homemade sandwich with me anyway.

Dramatic · 01/10/2023 16:03

Once a week, it's the night where we have 3 clubs to get to and it's just easy to nip in the drive thru.

OneLittleFinger · 01/10/2023 16:03

About twice a year on average. Our nearest is 100 miles away but even if it was nearer it would be a rare treat.

I get what you mean about you never being able to give them a rare treat though as we have a similar thing here with treats. DP buys so many for dd that I feel I can't. Eg he bought 3 packs of large ice lollies in one weekend, then two weeks later another 2 packs. He won't eat them, and I don't that often, so they're basically all for a three year old. She's had two, and there's no room in the freezer. The other day he bought her an ice-cream in a cafe, then an ice-lolly in the shop next door as they left. It's ridiculous!

ginandtonicwithlimes · 01/10/2023 16:04

I don't see the problem. His children too and as long as you aren't going without money to pay for it.

nokidshere · 01/10/2023 16:04

Blimey! Judging by these responses Maccys must be about to go into liquidation.

I have no idea how often we had one when the boys were small, sometimes frequently, sometimes never, depended when they asked for one. As teens and now young adults they have one occasionally (usually when they've been drinking and it's late at night) as they prefer a sit down restaurant meal these days.

I have one maybe every couple of months for lunch if I'm home alone and cba to cook.

C1N1C · 01/10/2023 16:04

Last resort if nothing else. I think once this year on holiday.

Laurelin · 01/10/2023 16:05

Pretty often, once a week on average maybe? But it's usually just for chicken nuggets, the other items usually disappoint. However now that I've got an air fryer and I can easily make nuggets at home I'll go less frequently. Yes I love my nuggets as a full grown adult, let me live!

Unihorn · 01/10/2023 16:06

We get a drive thru once a week after a sports club that finishes particularly late meaning it's easier to just grab something quickly on the way home. Most people I know do the same thing about once a week before/after badly-timed clubs.

Mumsnet is not the most balanced of places when it comes to fast food though so don't imagine this thread is too representative.

pitterypattery00 · 01/10/2023 16:06

I can't remember the last time I was in a McDonalds or any other fast food place - prob over 15-20 years (I'm mid 40s). I never went to them regularly anyway (too expensive for me when I was a student) but I read a book called Fast Food Nation in my early 20s and that totally put me off for life! I live in a city with lots of wonderful cafes and restaurants - so not temped at all by fast food. Would never think to feed my child junk food.

LoobyDop · 01/10/2023 16:06

Probably weekly as a teenager. In the 30 years since then, once. It was like eating cardboard while sitting in a bin, and I have absolutely no intention of repeating the experience.

DynamicK · 01/10/2023 16:06

Bunnyfuller1 · 01/10/2023 15:56

This is MN, home of super-mummies, who will compete to express the most disdain at fast food.

’Mac-what?’ ‘Oh dear, no, Fenella and Rupes only really like my home-made hummus with a pile of raw veggies and some figs’.

Odd that it's 'super mummies' who only avoid fast food in some peoples opinions.
There are so many better options available in many parts of the country and I know many people from diverse ethnic backgrounds who never go there either.

Rummikub · 01/10/2023 16:07

What’s good about it is that some are open 24 hours and you know what you are getting.

I really want them to bring back the McRib. So tasty.

pitterypattery00 · 01/10/2023 16:08

like eating cardboard while sitting in a bin

very well put @LoobyDop , sums up the experience perfectly.
