How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

I wouldn’t be happy with that often either, and also would resent DH taking all the ‘easy dinner’ slots that way. We go every 1-3 months I’d say, long enough between that it’s always disappointing, I forget how shit it is and the kids are always immediately hungry afterwards.

ZuliKyanLarsFoz · 01/10/2023 16:33

About once a year

Californiabound · 01/10/2023 16:33

Pretty much never now, with 3 teenagers it's not a cheap option anymore. Tbf I was probably at my thinnest as an adult when I worked there and ate the food daily (free food ftw)

Blough · 01/10/2023 16:34

Why does your husband place the burden of cooking solely on you, OP? Two or three times a year is beyond pathetic, do you find such uselessness attractive? Shit example of a man to your kids, too.

Parker231 · 01/10/2023 16:35

When DT’s were young it was an occasional treat. Once they were teenagers and students I’m sure they ate there on a regular basis.

You can control what they eat when they’re young but once they enter the teenage years, you’ve no chance!

LuckOfTheDrawer · 01/10/2023 16:36

We probably have McDonalds two or three times per year, and always at motorway services.

Which is a shame really - I love McDonalds 😄😳, but I also know how unhealthy it is.

FridaySpark · 01/10/2023 16:38

A few times a year. It's not very nice food and we have a vegan and a vegetarian in our house so not great for us anyway.

Marmalade71 · 01/10/2023 16:39

Probably a breakfast once every 2 months or so. Don't like the burgers.

Could eat Nandos a couple of nights a week if I let myself - fortunately the cost stops me.

TheChosenTwo · 01/10/2023 16:40

About once a month for lunch on My way past.
In my old job I had one every week!

Zezet · 01/10/2023 16:40

Once every three months or so. On road trips.

3WildOnes · 01/10/2023 16:41

A handful of times a year. We only ever go if we are on a long drive somewhere and need to stop at the service stations.

Totalblindnessofthesoul · 01/10/2023 16:42

We tend to go when we are out somewhere and urgently need to eat/travelling. We occasionally plan to go after somewhere (because of convenience), we never plan to go as a treat.

So there have been times when its been twice in a week (or occasionally on holiday if staying v close, more) but other times we might not go for 3-6 months.

happsy · 01/10/2023 16:43

Never. Every time I've had I had the most awful heartburn and felt sick afterwards so it's probably about 8 years now. I'm all for takeouts but that's one thing I won't allow my dc to eat.

He’s not useless - he has other qualities. But this does piss me off and isn’t entirely acceptable. We do sometimes have arguments about it.

I had a filet o fish 40 years ago. Gave me the shits. That’s my one and only experience. Never taken DD.

Spidey66 · 01/10/2023 16:46

Once or twice a year. No kids. I don't really do BK either and haven't had a KFC for years. If I want fast food, I go for either Subway or Pret.

Vitriolinsanity · 01/10/2023 16:48

I'd go every day. A quarter pounder with cheese, large fries and a chocolate milkshake would be my final meal on death row.

Gypsum5 · 01/10/2023 16:48

smallshinybutton · 01/10/2023 15:34

Fine if they are having a salad

😆

Probably about 3 months ago. We were at a PI, didn’t fancy a big meal & there was one next door. Sometimes I’ll have one if I’m on holiday, & fancy a change from the local cuisine. Egypt was the biggest burger I’d ever had, & HK the cheapest.

eurochick · 01/10/2023 16:48

Once every five years or so when desperate at a service station or similar and there is no other option. The smell of it makes me heave so I avoid it if at all possible. But I'd get some chips if my head was swimming with low blood sugar and I needed to eat something.

There is something about the oil or smell of McDonalds that I find awful. I'm not sure why. I loved occasional visits as a child.

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/10/2023 16:48

Once a year if travelling and it’s the only choice. Kids are adults.when they were young it would be maybe once a term at the most.

cbuew9 · 01/10/2023 16:48

Me - 1 or 2 times a year.

When the kids were small, it was rare, perhaps once every 4 months. But I prefer Burger King out of the 2 anyway.....

Beignet · 01/10/2023 16:50

Dh and I aren't fans. We had one a couple of years ago whilst we were travelling, it was late, we were hungry and there was nothing else open. I ate it but we agreed it was dissapointing.

Ds11 loves our local takeway so will get a meal from there. Ive just asked the older teenagers and they say they eat at madonalds every 1-2 months.

Moveoverdarlin · 01/10/2023 16:52

Probably once a fortnight. It’s right next door to where the DC have swimming lessons and it’s a really busy night for us. I hate doing it so regularly but it’s cheap, quick and easy after school but before swimming lessons at 4.50pm, 6.10 and 6.30pm. Sometimes I eat them and hate myself because it wasn’t all that, but sometimes I have to admit it’s absolutely bloody delicious. Need to point out, none of us a remotely overweight and all reasonably healthy.

Porridgeislife · 01/10/2023 16:53

I last ate there on New Years Day. We went to the Staines branch on our way to a NT property (only place open earlyish on NYD) as first time parents to a sleep dodging 5 month old. Before then over a year previously.

I’m not virtuous, I just don’t live somewhere that has one. I used to live a 3 minute walk away in London and had breakfast there at least a few times a month, plus lots of late night chicken selects with fries.

swimlyn · 01/10/2023 16:54

About every three or four years.

Unfortunately I lost track with the lockdowns.

I must recalculate…
