To think this, is how the Tories could win?

Sunak is setting out his stall as pro-car:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/sep/28/rishi-sunak-expected-to-limit-powers-of-councils-in-england-to-curb-car-use-20mph-speed-limit-traffic-camera-fines

This could actually swing it for him. People sink vast amounts of time and money into their cars, they're aspirational status symbols. The UK loves it's cars.

We. Will. See.

We will indeed. Meanwhile, the fact that the subject matter of this thread exists at all is indicative that the Tories would like a policy distraction from the cost of living crisis. There's a reason for that. It's much better for incumbent governments to be able to tell people they're financially better off.

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 12:25

I am still waiting for the Labour ‘positive’ list…….

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 12:26

Anyone out there?

You are not normally so quiet

We. Will. See.

We will indeed see.

As the country goes into winter with no support for fuel bills.

It’s just as well the GE will be in May or Sep 24

You asked where did they come from. I linked in response to that you can do the reading,

You've still failed to explain why you think the electorate will consider them to be of relevance, though. What do they tell us about how voters feel?

You have failed to tell us why anyone would vote for Labour.

As the country emerges from winter with no fuel support or faces another winter with no fuel support.

MrsSlocombesCat · 29/09/2023 12:31

Public transport needs to be heavily invested in. If the Tories get back in because of this we may as well kiss the future of our children goodbye.

That's true, I haven't told you that. Only that it's evidently going to happen. Which you appeared to find upsetting.

anyolddinosaur · 29/09/2023 12:31

@Katharinablumwasinnocent The cost of helping someone pretend they can change sex from female to male can be about £60,000 for female to male and up to £20,000 for male to female. Then there is the cost of lifelong medication -which ruins their health in other ways (like osteoporosis) so you also have the costs of treating that too. Perhaps you think that a good use of public money, I dont, not least because there is no evidence that it it actually improves mental health.

I doubt the NHS is going to give you the information - but do a freedom of information request if you want numbers. The times published some figures for Scotland at one stage, but only for teenagers under 18.

One of my relatives is one of the young people whose health has been permanently damaged by these safeguarding failures. Their trans partner's health is so bad they cant work fulltime. Young people's lives are being ruined by this - and more lives are being ruined while the NHS does a lot of harm.

CurlewKate · 29/09/2023 12:32

@Lastchancechica To be honest, I can't be bothered. You won't believe me whatever I say. And anyway, it's usual to wait for the manifesto.

I countered your claim electorates don’t care about recessions

Because it’s wrong. When they happen they care enormously

It doesn’t mean polls are always positive when not in recession, it just means most reasonable people can see the harm they cause

So nothing.

That’s disappointing

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 29/09/2023 12:34

@anyolddinosaur don’t doubt what you’re saying about the cost, both emotional and financial but to suggest it has a huge bearing on the state of the NHS is ridiculous. I’m GC but wouldn’t trust the tories one bit.

Iwishicouldflyhigh · 29/09/2023 12:35

We were going to vote for Labour as I think we need a change until the whole thing about private school, now I’m sticking with Tory.

3 friends doing the same and a few lanour friends will be not voting (they can’t bear to vote Tory!).

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 29/09/2023 12:36

@Lastchancechica again you seem remarkably well versed with Conservative election plans. What does 30p Lee say ?

CurlewKate · 29/09/2023 12:37

@Lastchancechica "So nothing.

Tell you what. You come up with 3 solid Tory policies that will make things better post the next election, and l'll put myself up for ill informed ridicule by matching them with Labour ones.

Who is Lee? Are you feeling ok? I am just listing my own view of the conservatives. I am terrified of a Labour government ruining our country yes!

I didn't say electorates don't care about recessions, though. That would be absurd, and part of the reason why the Tories are doing so badly on the economy now is the recession we've had and the ongoing implications.

They demonstrably don't care about the figures you listed. Or the polls wouldn't be so appalling, and we'd have seen some improvement when the figures became available. Your subjective judgement of what constitutes reasonable is a new and convenient addition to this discussion, and not important. We have universal adult suffrage in the UK, not a system that only gives the franchise to people you agree with.

Jaysus at this point it’s just words

Ok yes agreed my view of recessions being bad is the same as the electorate 👍

CurlewKate · 29/09/2023 12:40

@Lastchancechica But it won't be for a while-I'm going out to lunch now. I might have a glass of champagne. Might as well feed the stereotype.
