To think this, is how the Tories could win?

Sunak is setting out his stall as pro-car:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/sep/28/rishi-sunak-expected-to-limit-powers-of-councils-in-england-to-curb-car-use-20mph-speed-limit-traffic-camera-fines

This could actually swing it for him. People sink vast amounts of time and money into their cars, they're aspirational status symbols. The UK loves it's cars.

Why do you keep linking the same articles?

Because some pp seem to have trouble reading them. I am being helpful 😇

Where have they said that?

One EU diplomat told The Times: “The EU’s asylum system is broken, internal negotiations have now dragged on for more than seven years without an end in sight.

"There is absolutely no question of helping the UK until we have put our own house in order.

"Starmer is deluded if he thinks that European governments, who are under much more pressure on asylum and migration than Britain, are going to come to his rescue.’

Of course Starmer quickly denied asking

And generally. What people think is static is not. It’s fast moving and changes will ramp up.

France 'will not welcome migrants' from Lampedusa, except for 'political refugees,' says interior minister

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had called on European countries to share the responsibility, after more than 8,500 migrants arrived on the Mediterranean island in the space of a few days.

The last Labour government was 13 years ago, clearly they still think it’s the same issue as then!! Are you for real? Can you not see what has happened in that time?

Of course I have seen what's changed since then: 13 years of a chaotic, workshy, corrupt, incompetent Tory party that has wrecked the country.

StowOnTheWold · 01/10/2023 14:09

@Lastchancechica

The articles you posted were read by me. I merely pointed out there were two inaccuracies - quite material - that had been edited out in later versions. My point being that some articles are more reliable than others and those that are least reliable are inaccurate ones.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/10/2023 14:06

Starmer is in no position to negotiate. He's not in the government. People whose asylum claims failed were returned to their own countries. Foreign criminals were deported to their own countries.

The Tories aren't returning enough because they aren't processing enough claims in a timely manner.🤷‍♀️

Lazy fuckers.

There is no negotiation

They won’t help Italy why would they the U.K.?

The top 3 UK destinations for Hong Kong migrants are London, Reading and Manchester.

It seems you are a bit in la la land too tbh

Who has greater need? Lampedusa / Italy or U.K.?

They have said no to Italy. And they’ll say yes to U.K. because?

Times are changing, noticeable to many except on mn.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 14:13

This is PRECISELY the issue.

Labour sit there with fingers in their ears even as housing stock dries up completely across the land, they ignore the strain and the difficulties of welcoming millions of people into tiny communities, and irresponsibly ignore the most serious and complex challenges of our times coming down the track in the shape of climate change displacement.
Fuck!
How can anyone believe that these are the switched on problem solvers that we are going to need to prepare us for this?

Starmers lame pledge to accept more migrants is truly so out of touch as to be funny if it were not so serious.

It’s like Labour are stuck wedged in the 80s.

EasternStandard · 01/10/2023 14:13

I think people are joking at this stage

How so unaware?

Alexandra2001 · 01/10/2023 14:13

They won’t help Italy why would they the U.K?

Err they are!

EU is going to give almost 1bn euros to Tunisia to boost economy and to have better border controls. .. there are some conditions in regard to the IMF... but it will happen.

Did you read this?

Today just over 3% of the global population are international migrants. However, migrants contribute around 10% of global GDP or $6.7tn (£5.9tn) – some $3tn (£2.6tn) more than they would have produced in their origin countries

Sounding so out of the loop on migration pressures

Has anyone read up on Med to Italy yet?

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/10/2023 14:17

Times change. It is the one constant.🤷‍♀️ The Tories are not adapting. They're not even keeping up, they're falling behind. They are a part of the problem and are forcing us to pay for it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/10/2023 14:08

So you did see the mass phenomenon of millions and millions of migrants coming to Europe since then? Good. Because you can’t apply the old labour logic to s problem that has exploded in size.

You have little grasp on reality my friend

Redwinestillfine · 01/10/2023 14:18

They'll probably win because there is no viable alternative still. Labour really need to step it up or they'll blow it.

I haven't denied there will be an increase in migration, I have stated that the UK will have to take in their share of refugees as do France and Italy. I have also stated that I want the UK to have a functionimg asylum processing system and stop puttimg vulnerable people on barges, hotels or planes to Rwanda.

What am I joking about?

Of course that’s going to work 🤔

The lovely and ethical EU also paid Libya for years to do the same which is much worse than the U.K. Rwanda plan but apparently it is okay to hold migrants in despicable detention camps where even their most basic needs were not met. And so many died.
