To think this, is how the Tories could win?

Sunak is setting out his stall as pro-car:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/sep/28/rishi-sunak-expected-to-limit-powers-of-councils-in-england-to-curb-car-use-20mph-speed-limit-traffic-camera-fines

This could actually swing it for him. People sink vast amounts of time and money into their cars, they're aspirational status symbols. The UK loves it's cars.

I haven't denied there will be an increase in migration, I have stated that the UK will have to take in their share of refugees as do France and Italy. I have also stated that I want the UK to have a functionimg asylum processing system and stop puttimg vulnerable people on barges, hotels or planes to Rwanda.

What am I joking about?

Where the hell are you going to put them all then?

One EU diplomat told The Times: “The EU’s asylum system is broken, internal negotiations have now dragged on for more than seven years without an end in sight.

"There is absolutely no question of helping the UK until we have put our own house in order.

"Starmer is deluded if he thinks that European governments, who are under much more pressure on asylum and migration than Britain, are going to come to his rescue.’

Of course Starmer quickly denied asking

And generally. What people think is static is not. It’s fast moving and changes will ramp up.

Well said Eastern. This is the reality.

It would make more sense to process claims, find out what skills migrants may have and get them working... we are supposed to have a labour shortage

We allow in 100s of '000s on work visas to do the work that many migrants already here could do, they are, in the end, going to stay here, very very few of the 175k will be returned, is the Govt plan to have them in Hotels for the next 25 years????

It’s already straining EU countries hence No response from France and possible referendum

There is no orderly, neat way to deal with mass displacement.

It’s as chaotic as it is in Lampedusa and that’s just the start.

If we’re seeing the reactions we are now from EU why will become more open as numbers increase?

It will do the opposite

I think people are joking at this stage

How so unaware?

I think they know that Labour are grossly out of touch on this issue and have no defence so they are reduced to sound bites and ill advised jokes.

Of course it would and everyone knows it. Even right wing pundits.

This government don't do sense.

EasternStandard · 01/10/2023 14:30

It makes it a hard read when news elsewhere is ignored as it doesn’t fit

I mean I know why. But it’s not based on what’s actually going on

Well you tell me! The only solution I can see is to have a stricter policy in place. Its certainly not Labours ‘more migrants’ approach is it?

Notonthestairs · 01/10/2023 14:31

Ben Houchen says he wouldn't bet on the Conservatives winning the next election.

Asked if he would, he tells @KateEMcCann: "Not at the moment. We need to do more to give people the excuse [to vote Conservative]."

But Tees Valley mayor adds a Tory win is "still possible".

Not sounding convincing.

Labour don't have a "more migrants" approach, they want the back log cleared and migrants contributing.

How would you limit numbers crossing channel and med?

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 14:32

We are totally screwed if Labour get in.

Before the thread closes I just want to say thanks to all the Tory supportersWink for reminding us what a fucking disaster the Tory party has been for the UK.Thanks

To be honest, i think they are Labour plants, all they do, as you say, is make the case for change.

I wonder how long Sunak has....

..but you ve no answers, just keep repeating what we ALL know, migration is increasing, both here and in europe - across the Med and through Turkey.

Deport all refugees to Rwanda without return?

Alexandra2001 · 01/10/2023 14:43

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 14:41

I support the Rwanda idea

Its not even operational and how will 1000 places stop or limit 100k migrants crossing the channel or deal with the 175k already waiting here?

Let alone the 3 billion heading here lol!

EasternStandard · 01/10/2023 14:44

These threads don’t seem to progress. Even if France are leaps ahead in a week mners are stuck

My option is learn from countries who use other location successfully
