To think this, is how the Tories could win?

Sunak is setting out his stall as pro-car:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/sep/28/rishi-sunak-expected-to-limit-powers-of-councils-in-england-to-curb-car-use-20mph-speed-limit-traffic-camera-fines

This could actually swing it for him. People sink vast amounts of time and money into their cars, they're aspirational status symbols. The UK loves it's cars.

Fast and easy will mean more arrive. People go where governments allow it more

Look at France, before now it was easier and now it’s a no

We’ll see this pick up as numbers increase

Who is talking about fast and easy?

The UK had a working system until the current buch stopped safe routes and decrease the number of employees working on claims.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 13:50

You've fully bought into the Conservative migration policy @Lastchancechica I think you've made that clear.

What you haven't made clear is your assertion that Sunak is a decent man despite being repeatedly asked about that assertion in the light of his political record and parliamentary behaviour. Perhaps you can clarify how he's fit to govern the country, given that his record and actions clearly demonstrate his lack of personal and political integrity and decency?

when we have completely run out of housing stock, and spending millions on hotels each week as it stands

All Tory policies

They have to go somewhere or would you prefer they were left on the streets? Is that what Labour supporters wish for? Thousands of migrants living rough?

This is not a minor issue. 1-3 billion people could be displaced

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20221117-how-borders-might-change-to-cope-with-climate-migration

Well they’re all not coming here, are they? By the way, what was it you said about links yesterday?

It’s not minor at all.

The opposite: it’ll be one of the biggest issues we face

It’s nice the U.K. feels immune to pp at this stage, but a quick google will help on that

You seem to be struggling to read. Last year 1.2 million migrants arrived. That is the confirmed registered number.

I have attached an easier article for you to look at.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/05/25/uk/uk-net-migration-figures-gbr-intl/index.html

The Tories are an utter shambles in every way when it comes to immigration.🤦‍♀️

Why have the Tories allowed all these migrants to cross the channel and come here?

Stop the Boats! remember? whats happened to that particular slogan?

There were huge migrant flows into EU in 2015, yet almost none crossed the channel in a dinghy... why not? oh were we in the EU then....

Having 175k migrants waiting to be processed hasn't slowed numbers, they are increasing, so as a deterrent, its not working.....

EasternStandard · 01/10/2023 13:54

Have pp looked up Lampedusa?

Read what France and Germany are doing and how hardline they will become, France in particular atm

If you disbelieve people in the U.K. learn about them

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/10/2023 13:57

Look at general migration trends, across Med and Mexico to US, and look at why numbers are increasing

So the last Labour government, with fewer immigrants were able to return 4 times the amount of immigrants than this government do per year.

What can I say beyond the Tories are a bunch of lazy chancers.🙄

Alexandra2001 · 01/10/2023 13:58

Well, unless you put a Naval blockade around Lampedusa, just having stricter quotas or laws, wont make any difference.... the migrants don't care.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 13:59

BIossomtoes · 01/10/2023 13:51

Ha!!! They are not coming here? Yes they very much are - by the millions and soon to be much more. Perhaps if you actually stepped outside once in a while…

Blossom, you and others seem to have no capacity whatsoever to understand the SCALE of this. Even conservative estimations are predicting very very serious issues of multi millions of displaced people across the globe.

Of course we need a government that doesn’t stare down the barrel of this escalating issue blankly and bleats on about joining failing EU agreements!!!

Starmer is so dim witted clearly he has no idea at all, and his grand plan is to wait for it folks, have even MORE migrants sent to us ….. it beggars belief.

That is why he is surely trying (very hard) to lose the election. Fuck me. It’s like looking at a looming tsunami and getting out the garden hose to water the garden.

You know France said ha no to Starmer when he suggested returns

Deluded was the word and We’ve got our own issues. Which they do.

Where exactly did you want to return people to?

StowOnTheWold · 01/10/2023 14:00

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 13:48

That is not my personal over estimation of migrants moving due to climate change, but a consensus of expert opinion. I will link:

https://amp.theguardian.com/news/2022/aug/18/century-climate-crisis-migration-why-we-need-plan-great-upheaval

If you scroll down to the bottom of this article, you will see two subsequent revisions:

  1. To remove the statement that there are boreal forests on Greenland.
  2. To reduce the IOM's estimate of climate migrants by 500,000,000.

For this reason, I wonder what else in the article is incorrect. I do not for one minute imagine that climate migration is not going to change the northern hemisphere significantly, but let's get some facts right otherwise you are in disrepute.

They haven't, it was ONE MEP who said the British/Starmer were deluded, seems some see this as official EU response.

Why don’t you try and minimise all of the expert opinions! It seems you are in denial.

There are hundreds of reports about this from all over the world, all confirming the same thing:

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20221117-how-borders-might-change-to-cope-with-climate-migration

Is the world ready for mass migration due to climate change?

With up to three billion people expected to be displaced by climate change by 2100, does there need to be a shift in the way we think about national borders, asks Gaia Vince?

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20221117-how-borders-might-change-to-cope-with-climate-migration

The last Labour government was 13 years ago, clearly they still think it’s the same issue as then!! Are you for real? Can you not see what has happened in that time?

@Lastchancechica What is your answer to climate migration?

Starmer is in no position to negotiate. He's not in the government. People whose asylum claims failed were returned to their own countries. Foreign criminals were deported to their own countries.

The Tories aren't returning enough because they aren't processing enough claims in a timely manner.🤷‍♀️

Lazy fuckers.
