To think this, is how the Tories could win?

Sunak is setting out his stall as pro-car:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/sep/28/rishi-sunak-expected-to-limit-powers-of-councils-in-england-to-curb-car-use-20mph-speed-limit-traffic-camera-fines

This could actually swing it for him. People sink vast amounts of time and money into their cars, they're aspirational status symbols. The UK loves it's cars.

Jimmy Saville will be the final straw when the moment comes.

Oh yes that little chestnut will come up I am sure…

DonaNobisPacem · 29/09/2023 11:24

I don’t think they have a hope and the nasty anti-green anti-immigrant flailing about we’re seeing just makes me want it to be over. 500 selfish dicks in Uxbridge, a safe Tory seat, do not represent the country and the Tories just seem desperate and out of touch in aiming themselves at people like that.

Should add, I’ve called almost every election in my
life completely wrong. Let’s hope not this one.

RudsyFarmer · 29/09/2023 11:24

Well I think lots of people have been buggered by Brexit but that wasnt the question. Anyone knows what the polls were saying before hand? My memory was that Cameron thought it was a safe bet to give the vote to the people which is why he did it. Then was AWFULLY shocked.

Personally I think the inability/ability to control migration is going to once again decide this vote. The Tories have recently come out saying they want to sort it out by changing laws if necessary. I honestly don’t know what Labour has said in this issue and I suspect that’s an ‘on purpose’.

megletthesecond · 29/09/2023 11:24

The tories will win. The turkeys will vote for Christmas.

SherbetDips · 29/09/2023 11:24

Here’s hoping they win.

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 11:27

I think the conservatives deserve a chance to run without the weight of the financial meltdown in 2008 and saving us from the abyss, brexit ( that labour conveniently ducked despite millions of Labour voters supporting Leave) the pandemic and the war, they have been very unlucky to have to contend with all of that. I would like to see what they can do with some space to implement growth, ambition and innovation.

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 29/09/2023 11:18

@x2boys personally I don’t care how you vote but if you think the tories are doing a good job up here, that’s up to you. And the suggestion that we cannot criticise the Conservatives’ achievements (or lack of) because you might feel victimised is a bit ridiculous and gets us nowhere.

I don't feel.victimised at all.and you can criticize the tories all you want.I just think you are shooting yourself in the foot by insulting people who don't vote the way you think they should its hardly likely to encourage them to vote differently
But carry on

The turkeys are in fact women Labour voters that get to vote for erasure 🦃🦃

user1497207191 · 29/09/2023 11:31

Why can't Labour supporters ever come up with reasons TO vote Labour, rather than negative tactics saying it's the only option to avoid another Tory win.

Come on Labour, give us reasons to vote for you, give us some innovative/exciting policies to grow the economy, give us something to get excited about and to mobilise us.

I'm heartily fed up on their constant negativity and whinging about the Tories.

If they really can't come up with something better than "Vote Labour or you'll end up with the Tories", they don't deserve being voted for.

CurlewKate · 29/09/2023 11:32

I don't know any Tory voters who think the Tories are currently doing a good job. They are voting because they believe in fundamental Tory economic and social policy, and are hoping for a new leader who will give them that. They are basically old fashioned One Nation Tories. They go pale and quiet when I tell them I think the next Tory leader will be Suella Braverman. Because they think she is as vile as Labour labour people do.

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 11:33

That is exactly it!

There are NO positive reasons to vote for Labour. None.

caringcarer · 29/09/2023 11:34

@madamreign I can tell you Birmingham council is and has been useless for a long time. They waste money on stupid things like having electronic signs counting how many cyclist have used the road that day. Whilst really important services for youth get cut. They got into long term contracts they could not get out of paying people to trim back trees and hedges, costing thousands more than was needed. The car emissions scheme just means instead of driving directly through the tunnels to get to destination people who drive older cars have to drive twice as far, around all the 'Middleways', where people live too, to reach their destination. It is just a way to grab cash off motorists. My car is new so I don't have to pay but several younger teachers at my school were hit badly as going around the longer way, driving more miles using more fuel, causing more pollution, got them caught in even worse traffic. I doubt the press even know how badly Birmingham council was run.

CurlewKate · 29/09/2023 11:34

@user1497207191
"Vote Tory or you'll end up with Labour" has literally been the Tory election campaign for the past what feels like a million years.

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 29/09/2023 11:34

@x2boys I’ve no skin in the game how people vote. You’re mixing up ‘insulting’ with questioning. If anything, a Tory win, with abolition of inheritance tax amongst other things would benefit me massively. I just see how much the north has been ignored and damaged, particularly with regards to the double whammy of Brexit and Austerity and wonder why people would want more of that. If you feel insulted by that it’s your problem.

They cant help.themselves
I hated Tony Blair for many reasons but I can certainly see why he won and stayed in power for so long he made people really believe things could get.only get better and they did for a while
I can't imagine Keir Starmer being that inspiring.

But it might be that the conservatives are the best out of a bad lot.

It’s not like people will look at Labour and imagine they are here to save the day! Hardly! More likely to make things a 1000 times worse.
At best labour are a protest vote. Hardly compelling.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 29/09/2023 11:36

I think I’d pop a rib or strain a lung from laughing so hard if Britain actually voted to inflict itself with another 7 years of this inept cruel circus.

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 29/09/2023 11:36

@Lastchancechica positive reasons to vote for the Conservatives ?

Well I won't be voting Tory when the obnoxious little Cretin, Rishi, remains PM.

But until Labour come up with inspirational reasons to vote for them, I won't be voting Labour either.

That's from someone who's voted for all three major parties over the 40 years I've had the vote, so someone with no particular skin in the game for any party. I vote for the party/leader/policies at each election, certainly not tribal, and I'm not a member of any party. I'm "Mondeo Man" (or woman!) - the floating voter whose votes win or lose each election.
