To think this, is how the Tories could win?

Sunak is setting out his stall as pro-car:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/sep/28/rishi-sunak-expected-to-limit-powers-of-councils-in-england-to-curb-car-use-20mph-speed-limit-traffic-camera-fines

This could actually swing it for him. People sink vast amounts of time and money into their cars, they're aspirational status symbols. The UK loves it's cars.

It’s not my words it’s from the coverage, this is The Guardian

Labour will overhaul an “outdated” law to make it easier for transgender people

and Dodds - ‘we will modernise, simplify and reform the gender recognition law to a new process. We will remove invasive bureaucracy and simplify the process.’

Are you saying that the Tories have only cared about knowing what a woman is for the last 4 years?

2019 was all about the 'oven ready deal' lie

They didn't give a shit about women when they put male sex offender Karen White into a women's prison. Where he sexually assaulted women. All he had to do was don a wig and a frock.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-45825838.amp

They still don't give a shit about women and girls which is why they won't issue guidance to our schools.

In truth, I have been surprised even taken aback how seriously the conservatives now treat women rights. They have a well supported group of young female conservatives working their way up the party - mentored by other women and their voices and opinion carry a great deal of weight even at the most senior levels. I think it’s these voices we can hear that support our right to protect our spaces.

You may not appreciate just how far the conservative party has modernised given your hatred of them, but the truth is the moving faster on protecting women and girls than any other party.

https://www.women2win.com/

What absolute twaddle.
Where is their policy on protecting women and girls?
What are they doing about their shocking performance on rape and domestic violence?

I'm sorry, but a campaign to get more women into politics is not "protecting women and girls".

The home secretary explicitly said the other day that she thinks women from countries that are hostile, shouldn't be able to use their persecution on grounds of sex to claim asylum. In a speech signed off by Sunak.

It's just absolute hogwash that this government are doing anything to the benefit of women.

The main claim is "they are the only party who know what a woman is". Despite this apparently unique knowledge, they took two years to respond the gender consultation and have repeatedly delay their guidance to schools on how to treat trans students, promised in 2020. They've done nothing to protect sex based definitions in law.

It's just absolute tripe that they somehow are "moving faster than any other party".

Mumofsend · 30/09/2023 16:21

They will win even if it is self suicide. There isn't a viable alternative.

Abhannmor · 30/09/2023 16:21

The Tories would have a better chance with Mordaunt who is Twaw I think. Though she doesn't have any strong ideological positions. This is an asset now.
The party membership are still behind Trussinomics of course. But then they'd probably vote for Farage as leader. Or Lol Fox. The average Tory voter would prefer someone who will bumble along cutting the hole out of the public sector and keep house prices rising. Without looking clinically insane. In better times Rishi would fit the bill.

Who knows - he might still pull it off. In any event it is a bit late to assassinate him and pretend the election has already happened by appointing another 'clean skin'. And it would have to be an appointment. The members - average age 203 - are in a state of gibbering bewilderment and central office won't risk another mad Lizzy rerun surely?

Alexandra2001 · 30/09/2023 16:21

and Dodds - ‘we will modernise, simplify and reform the gender recognition law to a new process. We will remove invasive bureaucracy and simplify the process.’

Thats good, we shouldn't demonise people if they feel they are stuck in the wrong body.... however, thats totally different from allowing Trans women into prisons, rape centres, wards and sport... which the Tories have allowed, which some on here seem to minimise.

I’m aware people very much want Labour to win on these threads.

I don’t really get the faith in their policies delivering what they are after and think it’ll be a shame when women, our dds as they get older, will have to accept males in their spaces and sports

That’s already happening. If the Tories wanted to do anything about it they’ve had 13 years. Instead they tried to make self ID legal in 2017.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/09/2023 16:26

Not just these threads @EasternStandard, all across the UK as the polling shows.

EasternStandard · 30/09/2023 16:27

There is no way to exclude a male with a female legal sex certificate

It’s a terrible law that impacts women and children

I can see only the biological sex definition working but if posters have other legislative change that would work I’d be interested

Emeraldrings · 30/09/2023 16:29

We live in a city and public transport is shocking. We took my son to the hospital this week and it took us 3 hours to get home. We only live 7 miles from the hospital. 2 busses were cancelled, the next 2 were full before they got to our stop. In the end we got a taxi home but that was obviously expensive

However I never have and never will vote Tory. Hate the lot of them.

Karen White didn't need a certificate.

Even if that is Labour's policy, do you really think it will be their priotity with everything else that need sorted?

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/09/2023 16:31

No one needs a certificate that’s the problem with the GRA

It’s meant males access female spaces and we cannot check

Anyone who think the tories are in power after another GE are kidding themselves. It'll probably be closer than many would hope but they are, thankfully, fucking gone.

They have lost a mountain of support over the last few years, principally due to them being shit.

Personally I cannot wait to see the back of my Tory MP, he is a useless, slimy twat.

Yes I agree it'll be closer than predicted.

Based purely on the fact all but 1 of my Tory voting friend have said they won't vote Tory in next time as they don't recognise the party. But they won't vote at all.

Those statistics rely on all the other party voters voting and we've had such a low turnout recently.

But I don't think the Tory's can rely on their usual electorate and I very much doubt the walls that changed colour in 2019 based on levelling up.

itsgettingweird · 30/09/2023 16:37

Goodornot · 29/09/2023 12:19

The thing is if you all get what you want and Starmer is PM, you'll all have something else to bitch about. He will hammer the middle classes with additional tax so you'll all be on here moaning about him next.

Edited

All the middle classes are complaining the Tory's are doing the same now.

So the worst it'll get is nothing will change on that.

But public services, education and nhs always do better under Labour. And right now they need more.

DuncinToffee · 30/09/2023 16:32

It’s not looking good even if they take their time.

If biological sex does get through to next stage, it really is the only way out. Unless anyone can think of another way legislation can work.

Obviously people will have to decide but there won’t be the chance for biological sex definition with Labour

I think U.K. could be an outlier (against other western democracies) but it’s not easy. Gender ideology has pretty much become the norm, with no reversal so far

Alexandra2001 · 30/09/2023 16:43

Yet the Tories have increased funding for more GR clinics...

It’s meant males access female spaces and we cannot check

..... nonsense, we know full well (for example) a prisoner was once a man, the authorities retain that power under grounds of public safety.

But its cheaper not to bother with Trans prison wings, so we throw them in with females.

itsgettingweird · 30/09/2023 16:43

I am just listing my own view of the conservatives. I am terrified of a Labour government ruining our country yes!

And yet you are terrified of the party who have done just that for 13 years and counting Confused

madamreign · 30/09/2023 16:44

Alexandra2001 · 30/09/2023 16:18

Its a low priority with the electorate, poll after poll shows this.

The vast majority care more about the economy, health, roads, even the environment, its why Sunak isn't going on about removing Trans rights, he wants speed limits to stay as they are.

That they matter to some posters on MNs (or they use it to attack labour?) is not representative of the general pop.

Agreed. Every politics thread on here ends up talking about it tho, it'll weird

Yes and by the same posters... thankfully, the public don't care about fringe issues, they don't want to wait 3 years for a knee replacement or 2 days in AE....

Some posters would be happy with a twenty minute wait for an ambulance when they're having a heart attack- as long as they get their way re trans women.

If people don’t want to talk about it don’t quote me or bother asking questions

It’s easy

But if you do don’t complain that I respond

EasternStandard · 30/09/2023 16:53

As for pp complaining about posts I noticed that even after suggesting a hiatus from bothering they still quote

I’m more than happy to not engage

@DuncinToffee it’s Kemi Badenoch pushing it
