Looks like someone has deliberately felled the famous tree in Sycamore Gap. I can’t believe anyone would do such a thing. I don’t normally get emotional but this has really upset me. It’s absolutely irreplaceable.

What tree?

madamreign · 28/09/2023 10:52

For God's sake, why??????

DementedPanda · 28/09/2023 10:52

Absolutely shocking! Such an iconic tree. Massive loss to Northumberland.

Certainlyreally · 28/09/2023 10:53

Thats awful - and no accident clearly

I hadnt heard of it before, but it was beautiful

SerpentEndBench · 28/09/2023 10:54

Omg. Dreadful vandalism, or had to be taken down? Northumberland authority seems to think the former.

JulesJules · 28/09/2023 10:54

I saw this on twitter this morning, am so upset. We live in the North East and see the tree regularly. Just cannot, cannot fathom why someone would do this.

MaryShelley1818 · 28/09/2023 10:54

Absolutely heartbreaking 💔 I also find this really upsetting.

Ofalltheginjoints · 28/09/2023 10:55

Utter bastards whoever's done it, it was a beautiful tree, what the hell were they thinking

IClaudine · 28/09/2023 10:55

Why would someone do that? Poor tree, how sad.

User562377 · 28/09/2023 10:55

It was so beautiful. I'm so sad.

Why would you do that?

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 28/09/2023 10:56

Vandalism. Sheer mindless arsehole vandalism.

NepheliLoux · 28/09/2023 10:59

Just can’t get my head around someone choosing to do such a thing deliberately. It’s not like it could’ve been done impulsively - you’d have to walk a canny way with a chainsaw

madamreign · 28/09/2023 11:00

Did they take the wood?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 28/09/2023 11:01

I'm in Ireland, but I recognise the tree from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves - I watched it again the other day. Such an iconic spot. People are bizarre.

Puddlelane123 · 28/09/2023 11:01

I am genuinely really gutted about this. I loved that tree. Such an iconic landmark, and features in so many peoples memories and beautiful photography. What kind of tw*t does that?

DisquietintheRanks · 28/09/2023 11:02

No, not mindless. Its not so easy to cleanly fell such a large tree and you wouldn't just happen to find yourself up there with a chainsaw anyway. This was intentional and planned.

Ofalltheginjoints · 28/09/2023 11:03

From the photos it doesn't look like it, they've simple cut the tree down and buggered off, the tree looked really healthy to from what you can see in the cuts, utter dickheads 😡

BumWad · 28/09/2023 11:04

This is awful! 😨

thelittlestkiwi · 28/09/2023 11:08

I just don't understand people sometimes. Wankers.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2023 11:09

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 28/09/2023 10:52

I’m really upset about this. It’s an iconic northern landmark famous around the world.
What the actual fuck is wrong with people?

Wtf? ConfusedShock
I was once travelling to/from the US, chatting to my American neighbour on the plane about her travels in the UK she said she mentioned seeing the tree in Robin Hood PoT and being excited because she knew exactly where it was.

madamreign · 28/09/2023 11:00

Did they take the wood?

No, the felled tree is there. Lying dead by its stump. Awful.

Mindless nonetheless as in meaning ‘stupid and without Meaning’.

But I think we can agree on the arseholes bit.

Lizchaz · 28/09/2023 11:13

I am so upset and angry to hear this. This is a truly magical place that I have visited at times I’ve needed peace and calm. I cannot comprehend why anyone would do this 😢.

DisquietintheRanks · 28/09/2023 11:14

Arseholes definitely. But it also feels malicious rather than someone just doing something stupid on an impulse.
