Looks like someone has deliberately felled the famous tree in Sycamore Gap. I can’t believe anyone would do such a thing. I don’t normally get emotional but this has really upset me. It’s absolutely irreplaceable.

If 16 yo are fully developed mentally then why do we not let them vote, gamble, drive, enlist for active duty, or drink alcohol?

Because as a society we infantalise them. A hundred years ago a 16 year old would have been earning their own living for two years. The age of criminal responsibility is ten.

Up here in SNP land criminals who commit crimes under the age of 25 get years lopped off their sentences due to their youth and immaturity. Including for things such as raping and burning a woman to death. The tree feller would probably not even get a slap on the wrist in our pathetic justice system

This brain not being fully developed until 25 really pisses me off. I had two kids by the time I was 25.

Quite. And it's always used to excuse fuckwittery. When it comes to "MUH RIGHTS" adulthood seems to begin around 13...

If the tree had a TPO on it, then he'll get a fine, up to £15000, as horrible as it is, its not as if he has committed GBH or armed robbery.

Personally, i'd make him work planting the millions of trees we are supposed to be growing over the next few years.

Oh agree, it’s not in the league of murder, rape, gbh of course.

It's just said on the radio that the wall was damaged as well when the tree was cut down. Hopefully that'll mean the person(s) responsible will face a bigger charge

I was wondering about that, I thought it looked like it might have been in the photos and it's hard to imagine it would have been totally unscathed.
