To intensely dislike Keir Starmer

1000 replies

LemonyTicket · 27/09/2023 00:42

I can't stand Tories.
The current Tories are the worst

But I still intensely dislike Keir Starmer and will probably vote Green.

I find him phony, with no vision, like a terrible 6th form prefect. And to be honest his whole front bench are dreadful. Wes Streeting nauseates me.

Is it just me?

Keir Starmer is intelligent, a decent leader and a democrat. He's fine. I'm too old to be a cheerleader but I'm happy to vote to get his party in.

If we're bringing up past party leaders imposed on us by political party activists, let's talk Truss. She on her own is a reason to think the current government is full of literal extremists.

tpxqi · 27/09/2023 07:23

You’re not wrong. They are marginally worse that than the govt, which really tell you how bad they are. His front bench is made up of zombie undesirables. People that you really wouldn’t take seriously in real life.

Tenashelflife · 27/09/2023 07:23

@Lastchancechica just out of curiosity - would you mind saying what newspaper you read? Genuinely curious.

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 07:24

Highandlows · 27/09/2023 07:20

Keir Starmer does not want people better off. He wants everyone equally poor. See who would be really affected adding VAT to private schools. It does not make sense. If that is what people want then ok. Just be aware of what you are voting for and do not say you are disappointed when he does not deliver.

Edited

Yes! That is precisely my fear, he will drive the country down not up!

The malignant economic policies together with the green agenda are going to finish this country off. I can’t even begin to say how poor a leader he is likely to be. Dishwater politics, the reopening of tedious brexit wars, woke politics up and down the country. There won’t be anyone left to govern!!

The independent why?

Heyhoherewegoagain · 27/09/2023 07:24

A vote for the greens is effectively a vote for the tories as has happened in Scotland with the SNP, it’s a complete shitshow.

If you want the tories out, it needs to be a tactical vote, anything else splits the vote between the minority parties.

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 07:24

And the Financial Times for my job

Mble · 27/09/2023 07:24

I imagine he will be just as incompetent as Sunak. When labour get in I’ll probably pay more tax. Schools, health care, police and public transport will remain terrible. More people will become more reliant on the state, then the tories will get in again. Lots to feel positive about!

SnapdragonToadflax · 27/09/2023 07:25

How frequently we seem to get an anti-Labour post early in the morning, before the majority are up, allowing pages of negative comments to build up.

I don't need the PM to be charismatic. But they should be intelligent, reasonable, hard-working and with a decent moral compass - which I believe Keir Starmer has. I also don't need to agree with every policy, a political party will never represent every single one of my views. You vote for the party who best fit your beliefs. If you want an exact match, start your own political party.

If you dislike the current Tory mess, vote tactically to get them out. Find out who does best in your area against the Tories, and vote for them. For me that's Lib Dem - I would actually rather vote Labour, but my main priority is getting the Tories out. We need to be pragmatic. If you vote for a smaller party that doesn't stand a chance you are essentially voting for the Tories.

EasternStandard · 27/09/2023 07:25

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 07:21

Or blue skies thinking we might just be ordinary voters looking at the zombie opposition 🙄

Enough have voted to show it’s just mners

Don’t worry about the old hq line. Otherwise Labour have their own lot on here too.

Seriously- go and talk to them. Go to a Tory conference and then go to a Labour conference. Unless you're completely evil, stupid or a titled lord, I guarantee you will be a Labour voter after that.

Badbadbunny · 27/09/2023 07:26

Jacopo · 27/09/2023 03:14

The Greens in my part of the UK are completely barking mad. (Scotland).

Same here. No way I'd vote for them.

😂 she won’t be allowed in if she is a women identifying as a woman ! She can turn left for CIS politics.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 27/09/2023 07:28

I can’t wait until we finally have a grown up in charge. Of course no one is perfect and Starmer may not be a character but I’d rather have someone who can do the job unlike this current shower of shit. They’ve had 14 years and look what a mess we’re in.

Highandlows · 27/09/2023 07:28

This shit has to end. If people do not agree with your political views you are evil, stupid or a Lord. People hopefully can see through this.

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 07:29

The way Labour treat Rosie Duffield is beyond disgusting, this is what they think of us. Non entities!

Clafoutie · 27/09/2023 07:29

ilovesooty · 27/09/2023 05:23

Exactly. Depressing thread. No wonder the Tories have been free for so long to enact the policies we have.

I agree. Elections seem to be more and more now a personality contest, when people’s vote is decided on extremely narrow, subjective criteria rather than thinking about what would be best for the country as a whole. In addition, elections come down to having to make a choice. It may well be that this is between ‘worse’ and ‘least worse’, but, as others have said, splitting the vote by voting for, say Greens, just ends up being a vote in favour of someone else. If people genuinely don’t like any of Labour’s policies, ( and not just Starmer himself), then by all means vote Tory, or split the vote, but personally I struggle to see how anyone could want to risk having a continuation of the worst, most corrupt, lying, incompetent government over Labour, just because there is something they don’t like about one man which they ‘can’t quite put their finger on’, or because of a single issue. I am not a Labour apologist, and would also, in an ideal world vote Green, but feel we have got to get real here and simply do whatever it takes to get this unbelievably toxic government out.

He's not overly charismatic you're dead right. His eyes are too close together.

He is intelligent hard working working wants a fairer society. I mean he's a huge improvement on the narcissists and utter fools we have had

This. I think he's decent, if a bit bland. I'd rather boring and bland over the crop of liars we've had since 2016.

DixieLandReject · 27/09/2023 07:31

HeddaGarbled · 27/09/2023 01:17

Yes, I think YABU. Consider the policies and don’t get sucked into personality politics. It’s because of this reductive shallow idiocy, we get Trumps and Johnsons et al: manipulative liars who are good at appearing charismatic to the easily duped.

Couldn't agree more!!

runningpram · 27/09/2023 07:33

I think he is a man who genuinely cares about the country. He is intelligent, hard working and has a moral compass.
Im sure there are more charismatic people out there but he’s a lot better than the current dreadful venal offering.

pointythings · 27/09/2023 07:34

If you're going to throw the country to the Tories again over shallow personality politics, fill your boots. But then shut up if you don't like the consequences.

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 07:34

It’s not about personality politics, it really isn’t.

We want a strong, decisive leader with gravitas that is in touch with everyone in the country. Someone with a good moral code, that represents the WHOLE of the country not just the men!

Its not much to ask for it?

Starmer is NONE of those things.
He thinks women have penises, that is where we truly are. It beggars belief.

anotherside · 27/09/2023 07:34

Boris Johnson was the most incompetent PM in British history - yet he got 100,000s of votes from people on the basis that they found him funny. His likeable clown act also probably swung the Brexit vote (for which he was Leaves most high profile champion), even though it’s highly likely he didn’t believe in Leave himself.

Best we don’t treat the social and economic direction of the country on the same basis we decide who we want round for a cup of tea.
