To intensely dislike Keir Starmer

I can't stand Tories.
The current Tories are the worst

But I still intensely dislike Keir Starmer and will probably vote Green.

I find him phony, with no vision, like a terrible 6th form prefect. And to be honest his whole front bench are dreadful. Wes Streeting nauseates me.

Is it just me?

@Lastchancechica you should follow Electoral Calculus. They have correctly predicted the outcomes of 7 out of the last 8 elections, and they accurately predicted Boris Johnson's large majority in 2019. I've been following them.

You won't like what they predict for your friends. And it hasn't shifted for a year.

Thank you I will follow this! The polls look grim for the Conservatives

It’s going to be like brexit all over again….

For me, I'd like them to investigate the feasibility of a part-pay NHS model as in France and Germany.

MNers seem to be united in their views that the healthcare is a lot better but we seem unwilling to look to other European countries for solutions.

I don't think the NHS can continue in its current state, for patients and staff alike. And I don't think throwing more money at it is the long term answer.

We don’t need to change the funding model. We need root and branch reform of the structure and much more of the money reaching the front line. We could also do with an injection of successful leaders and senior managers from other industries.

You mean it won’t make any difference to anyone?

bombastix · 29/09/2023 17:04

Thanks to @pointythings I have just looked at Electoral Calculus.

Unless the Conservatives do something radically popular they are going to be run into the ground. I had not appreciated just how dire this is at present.

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 17:04

We are going to see some shock on here, and how did that happen head scratching.

pointythings · 29/09/2023 17:09

@Lastchancechica your optimism is laudable. Your comparison with Brexit is scary, given how that's turning out.

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 17:13

I think it’s turning out fine - but life is about perspective and you are clearly a glass half empty type of person.

I disagree. I think we should take look at the French and German models if they deliver both better patient care and a more pleasant working environment. I don't think the NHS can survive without a fundamental shift along these lines.

I agree. It’s unaffordable.

Always the same echo chambers assuming metropolitan views are wide spread

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 17:47

We probably have about seven months to go - I doubt Sunak will risk another dire set of local election results. Meanwhile the Tories have been lagging in the polls for over a year.

One year autumn 2024.

pointythings · 29/09/2023 17:53

What do you think the Conservatives are going to pull out of the hat then? Because they've made zero headway in a year. Their anti-green ideas play badly with moderates in the south, their scrapping of anything to do with improving things in the North is eroding their support in the seats they gained in 2019.

Oh, and what are 'metropolitan views' given that they are also losing support among the farming community?

It'll be interesting to see what happens in terms of the timing of a GE. The last local elections were devastating for the Tories. I'm in Suffolk, which is a Tory bastion if ever there was one. The Tories held all three councils. After the elections, they held none - one was won outright by the Greens, in the other two the Tories lost enough ground that the councils ended up run by coalitions between Green, Labour and Independents. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not at all sure the Tories can afford another loss on that scale and retain any kind of credibility, insofar as they have any left.
