Dogs slobbering on products in shops

I know I'm not being unreasonable! But surely some think I am as they allow their dogs to do this.

Took DD(7) shopping today, trip was really spoiled by a few dogs.

Lush. Someone brought their large dog in, this dog was head height to the lower shelves, and had its snout in several of the products. I was about to complain to the staff, but several staff went over and started petting the dog, clearly they were team dog. I don't want my clean bath products with added dog slobber, nor do I want them handled by someone who has just been touching dogs. I will email lush to tell them, but I am posting to please ask dog people to resist taking your dogs into stores where they are going to have their noses in the products.

Next was at the little pop up market. Another dog, in owner's arms, sneezed on the wares (hand-knitted toys). Obviously sneezing happens, but come on, that's just gross.

Third, today, mid-to-large sized dog, cocked his leg on someone's stall. Owner wasn't even watching. Stall -holder has to pack up her table, with dog piss on the table leg. I did tell the owner, of the stall, she was really pissed off, and lamented that it has happened before, but because she's positioned in the outdoor market area, she has no control over people bringing their dogs right up to her stall.

Fourth. Woman had her dog on a long leash. Elderly chap tripped over the leash. Luckily he didn't land on the ground, it was busy so he just half -fell on someone as he stumbled, but he was shaken, and the person he landed on was hurt too. Dread to think how the old man would be doing had he completely fallen on the ground.

Fifth, there was a dog shit in the middle of the outdoor market.

This is all in one day. We were only out for about three hours.

Please please stop bringing dogs everywhere. And if you absolutely must, please watch them vigilantly so that the rest of us aren't impacted by them.

Yanbu - dogs should stay at home, or go to the park. They should not be in the shops.

Yabu. Dogs are still great, better than humans, and comparable to kids.

It's just got out of hand all this nonsense in treating dogs like humans. Time to wake up and ban them from such communal spaces. I like dogs but not like this....

Screamingabdabz · 23/09/2023 17:33

Absolutely. Years ago nobody took their dogs out and a dog in a shop would’ve been a shocking thing. It still is to me, especially food shops, as animals are inherently unhygienic and so many dog owners are selfish and inconsiderate. The staff petting them and then having dog hands all over the products is disgusting.

Unfortunately if shops allow dogs in there isn’t much you can do about it other than never shop there again. Including dogs means excluding people who don’t want to, or can’t be, around dogs. Banning dogs from shops would still be inclusive of all humans.

YANBU.

Fishandchipsatthebeach · 23/09/2023 17:34

It’s gross. I don’t want dogs in shops and cafes and everywhere

EmpressSoleil · 23/09/2023 17:35

Yep. I went away somewhere for the wkend recently and so many signs "dogs welcome". Not to me they're not!

I have 2 cats and contrary to popular opinion, they hate it when I go out. Does this mean I should start bringing them everywhere with me? No, that would be ridiculous. But with dogs it's somehow OK?

I just vote with my feet and won't go in places that advertise as dog friendly.

lemonraincoat · 23/09/2023 17:35

Too many dogs and their entitled owners.

Zebedee55 · 23/09/2023 17:35

I try and avoid anywhere that allows dogs. I like dogs, I used to have dogs, but some places just aren't suitable for them.

Certainly not anywhere involving food.

Well trained guide dogs are ok though.

NoodlesAndRice · 23/09/2023 17:37

These owners are thick, selfish and lost all concept of basic hygiene a long time ago.

WaltzingWaters · 23/09/2023 17:37

I have a dog but I completely agree with you. I’m sure it used to be okay for dogs to be left home alone and not need to go everywhere with their owners! When we do take our dog places we are always watching her and I’d never let her even sniff anything in a shop. I saw a couple feed their dog the last of their meal at a restaurant the other day straight from the plate 🤢

Syndulla · 23/09/2023 17:38

I love dogs but it's getting ridiculous. Massive food festival by me today. Dogs everywhere sniffing and peeing at the stalls. And a chunk of the stalls were for dog food rather than human food, which is even more ridiculous. They're animals not babies.

Dentistlakes · 23/09/2023 17:40

I had to squeeze past someone and their dog stood right in the doorway of a shop today. The dog moved under my feet as a tried to get past and I ended up treading on it. It was an accident and I would never intentionally hurt an animal, but really, the owner was absolutely at fault. Dogs don’t belong in shops, especially food shops.

itsmyp4rty · 23/09/2023 17:42

I'd rather have dogs in town than cats shitting all over my garden. I found 3 lots of it in my garden one morning from all the neighbourhood cats. Having to pick up cat shit so you can use your garden or out of your vegetable patch is far worse than seeing a bath bomb that a dog has sniffed I promise you.

PurpIish · 23/09/2023 17:50

Relieved to see all in agreement. I just feel so disappointed in society going this way, and it's getting worse. Hate that my kids are growing up with this level of entitlement from dog owners. I do not dislike dogs. I dislike the fact that they are absolutely everywhere, and it's unhygienic. Food places especially.

Cat poo really is gross, and I've had to deal with that, too. Ruined some herbs I was growing.

I personally can't stand children with dirty, sticky fingers touching things in shops. Each to their own, I suppose.

Laiste · 23/09/2023 17:53

WTF has cat shit got to do with dogs being taken into shops?

There's always one isn't there.

I guess next we'll have some nonsensical comparison with children 🙄

Laiste · 23/09/2023 17:53

😂

Children are human beings with human rights.

Dogs are animals.

Lemonademoney · 23/09/2023 17:56

In complete agreement, love dogs but don’t get why they need to be in shops.

Neither can I.

Do you think someone can dislike kids’ sticky fingers and also hate dog piss on shop products or are these mutually exclusive? Have a careful think.

kitsuneghost · 23/09/2023 17:59

Totally agree OP. It's disgusting to see dogs in shops and food places.

NoodlesAndRice · 23/09/2023 17:59

Laiste · 23/09/2023 17:53

😂

Point proved. There are always ridiculous dog-owners around who make these inane comparions.

They can’t defend the dog-fouling so pipe up with irrelevant comments about children. Bless them.

Mygazpachoistoocold · 23/09/2023 18:02

I actually think it's cruel taking a dog into shop like Lush. Humans can smell Lush from a long distance, for a dog going into the shop their nose must be going into over drive.
I think too many dog owners want their dogs to fit into their lifestyle, and are not thinking what's best for their dog.

Never seen this but parents can tell their kids not to do it, I suppose. Dogs can't do as they're told, slobberers are gonna slobber

I’ve had the last couple of days with my dogs ruined by children. Today, a horrible little boy deliberately kicked a football in my dogs face. Hard. When my dog (who was on a lead) yelped, the little boy and his friend found it hilarious. Mother was on her phone and didn’t even notice.
Two days ago, we were in a restaurant. My dog was under the table, happy with a treat and quiet. A child came crawling up under the table (hands and knees, so I didn’t see them) and decided to try and take my dogs treat. Fortunately, my dog is well trained and passive and I only realise what was happening when a voice from under the table shrieked “give it to me”. I very sternly and loudly told him to “get out” and only then did his mother notice where as was. As he crawled out from under the table, her words were “oh darling, have you been playing”???.
He could very easily have been bitten in that situation, which I’m sure would have been my or my dogs fault. Entitled, selfish, shoddy parents, please keep your children under control. Thank you. And before you tell me that YOUR children don’t behave like that, MY dogs are well trained, well behaved and no, I wouldn’t take them shopping.

trythisforsize · 23/09/2023 18:07

today:

dog shit on the beach
wet dog shook itself next to our table spraying my sons breakfast with droplets
bored dogs waiting for owners to eat in cafe, when they looked restless they were shouted at, when they got up all excited they were shouted at
Large dog barking at smaller dog in outside cafe.

Just bloody dogs everywhere.
