Dogs slobbering on products in shops

I know I'm not being unreasonable! But surely some think I am as they allow their dogs to do this.

Took DD(7) shopping today, trip was really spoiled by a few dogs.

Lush. Someone brought their large dog in, this dog was head height to the lower shelves, and had its snout in several of the products. I was about to complain to the staff, but several staff went over and started petting the dog, clearly they were team dog. I don't want my clean bath products with added dog slobber, nor do I want them handled by someone who has just been touching dogs. I will email lush to tell them, but I am posting to please ask dog people to resist taking your dogs into stores where they are going to have their noses in the products.

Next was at the little pop up market. Another dog, in owner's arms, sneezed on the wares (hand-knitted toys). Obviously sneezing happens, but come on, that's just gross.

Third, today, mid-to-large sized dog, cocked his leg on someone's stall. Owner wasn't even watching. Stall -holder has to pack up her table, with dog piss on the table leg. I did tell the owner, of the stall, she was really pissed off, and lamented that it has happened before, but because she's positioned in the outdoor market area, she has no control over people bringing their dogs right up to her stall.

Fourth. Woman had her dog on a long leash. Elderly chap tripped over the leash. Luckily he didn't land on the ground, it was busy so he just half -fell on someone as he stumbled, but he was shaken, and the person he landed on was hurt too. Dread to think how the old man would be doing had he completely fallen on the ground.

Fifth, there was a dog shit in the middle of the outdoor market.

This is all in one day. We were only out for about three hours.

Please please stop bringing dogs everywhere. And if you absolutely must, please watch them vigilantly so that the rest of us aren't impacted by them.

Yanbu - dogs should stay at home, or go to the park. They should not be in the shops.

Yabu. Dogs are still great, better than humans, and comparable to kids.

Stop being such a snob, I have never seen a dog piss on items in a shop. You’re just using the one time you’ve seen it as an excuse to ban dogs from everywhere because you’re a dog snob. Also, if a dog did piss on my products would I care? No. The reason why? Because the general public’s hands on my products is also extremely grim. People not washing their hands after the toilet, people coughing/sneezing into their hands, people picking their nose etc.

I have never seen it. But I believe people’s stories.

You were answering the OP. Which was about stuff like dogs pissing on products. And you said it was because people hate dogs. That’s why I questioned you.

Anyway thanks for answering. It’s answered my question that yes, there is a subclass of society with questionable attitudes to hygiene. If disliking fresh wet dog urine on the products I am buying makes me a ‘dog snob’ so be it.

Weloveflowerss · 23/09/2023 19:21

How do I explain other peoples thoughts/feelings? Is that what you’re asking me? If I could explain why/how other people think I’d be very rich!

Good evasion. I get that you have no decent answer. That’s ok!

NotAdultingToday · 23/09/2023 19:31

To all the people saying there dogs are well i trained thats great but how does that help people like me who are allergic? Why do i have to avoid places because people want to bring their dogs?

Children might be annoying or making a mess but again people arnt allergic to them

kitsuneghost · 23/09/2023 19:34

trythisforsize · 23/09/2023 19:27

Now you're a snob for not wanting to buy thigs covered in piss @NoodlesAndRice ! A 'dog-snob' 😂😆😂

Well @Weloveflowerss , if you are allowing your dog to carry out all it's natural behaviours, your dogs nose will have been right up a lot of other dogs arses all day before it went and sniffed around the cafe/shop/restaurant.

I know what I'd prefer, give me kids fingers sticky with sweets any day.

Just remember the ones calling you a snob are people that walk about with warm shit in their pocket
So not really much of an insult when that's your starting hygiene standards.

JamSandle · 23/09/2023 19:35

I love dogs. But am very allergic. I do struggle in certain indoor public areas when there are lots about.

satellitesunshine · 23/09/2023 19:35

@GonnaGetGoingReturns eh? that has nothing to do with my comment. obviously there’s badly behaved kids but this is a thread about dogs, there’s no need for weirdos to come on and whinge about children because they’ve entirely forgotten they once were one. it’s a dog thread!

sunglassesonthetable · 23/09/2023 19:36

Love Dogs
Love kids.

Ridiculous to compare them.

Wouldn't even dream of taking my dog into a shop. It's so inappropriate.

What are John Lewis even thinking proclaiming that? Would someone happily browse round JJL dragging a dog in tow. God my Beddy would give short shrift to that.

He wants grass and fields and beaches. Not the Bobby Brown Counter.

Cafes and pubs I'm all for outside. With the proviso of good behaviour. That goes for dogs, kids and adults.

Big fat no to dogs in shops.

satellitesunshine · 23/09/2023 19:37

@JamSandle same - i have to move if i don’t want an asthma attack and there’s a dog there. not helpful when said dog is slobbering all over you trying to get a pat and the owner is all cooing etc thinking everyone loves their dog and wants to stroke it 😅

Fab973 · 23/09/2023 19:37

You should NOT bring your dog to a restaurant it is disgusting. Children can be in a restaurant, dogs should stay outside. How awful for your dog smelling all the food and not being able to eat it, or even worse you feeing the dog restaurant food. Your dog is not a human being LEAVE IT AT HOME

Perfectlystill · 23/09/2023 19:40

I love dogs everywhere. Except XL bullies.

Better shut up then. 😆😉 They're very popular.

Oh catch yourself on! You sound like a total prat and your argument is ridiculous. If you had seen me in Tesco today my 2.5 year old missed their nap because of 4 year olds birthday party. All three of them in the trolley with clean hands but have a cold. Toddler screamed at
one point because he was exhausted and frustrated. I am a competent Mum just trying to do her weekly shop with three children. Those children will grow up with good morals, values and could become the doctors and nurses who one day save your life. They are worth investing in and they 100% have every bit as much right to take up space in society as you do. In the same way I wouldn’t expect an adult in pain to be quite because it’s preferable for me, why do people
not get that young children need to learn how to manage their emotions? Dogs are dogs. They will never become anything else so no they do not get to be treated as people. And I detest your grumpy condesceing tone. What do you want parents to do? Lock Their children in cages until they reach adulthood and let them out then? You are being utterly unreasonable and if my child screams the next time we are in Tesco I hope you are close by and say something to my face because I will tear you a new one

LindyLou2020 · 23/09/2023 19:47

I had assumed that, according to the media, dog, (and other pet), ownership, rose very significantly during the Covid lockdowns. Partly because many people were working from home and had the time/space to take on a pet, and partly because dogs especially enabled people to go out for walks during the restrictions that banned us from any significant contact/exercise outside the home.
But other PPs say that the boom in dog ownership started well before that. I don't know if that's true or not.
Certainly, where I live, dogs, except assistant dogs, are still barred from most council/public establishments.
But many independent pubs/cafes/restaurants/shops say they welcome dogs.
They are still trying to rebuild their businesses, but they also have to compete.
So, for example, once one cafe starts to welcome dogs, and dog owners patronise it, others feel obliged to follow suit, rather than lose business.
Does that sound feasible?

TerrysNeapolitan · 23/09/2023 19:48

I love dogs but concur that in some settings it is just not the right environment, I had a hand painted t shirt stall a while back - out door market style, a dog came along and just peed up hitting all the t shirts on the lower display is a shower of pee. Hours of work (they are one of a kind) and stock ruined. Owner didn't care, shrugged shoulders and just walked on.

Ugh. But piss is liquid🤢must he interesting in the bath bombs.🤮And the smell lingers. People might transfer germs but they don’t piss in Lush.

PurpIish · 23/09/2023 19:50

I was surprised the dog seemed fine in lush. It is so strongly -scented in there, I thought he'd recoil. Sadly not. Owner totally oblivious.

Well said @fab973

Livelovebehappy · 23/09/2023 19:54

Sorry. Don’t believe you. This definitely did not happen in just one day, and can’t believe people are actually thinking it did……….

PurpIish · 23/09/2023 19:54

I actually don't like the Lush concept of everything open, no packaging. I don't really like the thought of other people touching them, and always pick from the back. Dogs slobbering on things is a step beyond though.

I usually order online from Lush, only went in as DD really wanted to pick something out.

I’m not whinging about children and yes I’m sure I was badly behaved once as one too…. However my parents didn’t allow me to behave badly in public.

Yes it’s a dog thread I agree.

For what it’s worth I’ve seen well behaved and badly behaved dogs and children. Even both together. That’s why I was comparing and contrasting both owners and parents.

NoodlesAndRice · 23/09/2023 19:16

Do you love buying products in shops covered in fresh dog piss? It takes all sorts I suppose.

Maybe move to a better place? You must live in a bit of a cesspit town if your shops allow dogs to piss on their stock. I have a dog and don’t take it into shops btw, but have yet to visit one where there’s dog piss everywhere….but maybe it depends where you live.

OneTC · 23/09/2023 19:59

We used to allow dogs in the shop but the dramatic complainers made it a complete headache so we relented. FTR we've had more humans piss on the floor than dogs
