Dogs slobbering on products in shops

I know I'm not being unreasonable! But surely some think I am as they allow their dogs to do this.

Took DD(7) shopping today, trip was really spoiled by a few dogs.

Lush. Someone brought their large dog in, this dog was head height to the lower shelves, and had its snout in several of the products. I was about to complain to the staff, but several staff went over and started petting the dog, clearly they were team dog. I don't want my clean bath products with added dog slobber, nor do I want them handled by someone who has just been touching dogs. I will email lush to tell them, but I am posting to please ask dog people to resist taking your dogs into stores where they are going to have their noses in the products.

Next was at the little pop up market. Another dog, in owner's arms, sneezed on the wares (hand-knitted toys). Obviously sneezing happens, but come on, that's just gross.

Third, today, mid-to-large sized dog, cocked his leg on someone's stall. Owner wasn't even watching. Stall -holder has to pack up her table, with dog piss on the table leg. I did tell the owner, of the stall, she was really pissed off, and lamented that it has happened before, but because she's positioned in the outdoor market area, she has no control over people bringing their dogs right up to her stall.

Fourth. Woman had her dog on a long leash. Elderly chap tripped over the leash. Luckily he didn't land on the ground, it was busy so he just half -fell on someone as he stumbled, but he was shaken, and the person he landed on was hurt too. Dread to think how the old man would be doing had he completely fallen on the ground.

Fifth, there was a dog shit in the middle of the outdoor market.

This is all in one day. We were only out for about three hours.

Please please stop bringing dogs everywhere. And if you absolutely must, please watch them vigilantly so that the rest of us aren't impacted by them.

Yanbu - dogs should stay at home, or go to the park. They should not be in the shops.

Yabu. Dogs are still great, better than humans, and comparable to kids.

YANBU. Only service dogs should be allowed in shops and markets.

I’ve had the last couple of days with my dogs ruined by children. Today, a horrible little boy deliberately kicked a football in my dogs face. Hard. When my dog (who was on a lead) yelped, the little boy and his friend found it hilarious. Mother was on her phone and didn’t even notice.
Two days ago, we were in a restaurant. My dog was under the table, happy with a treat and quiet. A child came crawling up under the table (hands and knees, so I didn’t see them) and decided to try and take my dogs treat. Fortunately, my dog is well trained and passive and I only realise what was happening when a voice from under the table shrieked “give it to me”. I very sternly and loudly told him to “get out” and only then did his mother notice where as was. As he crawled out from under the table, her words were “oh darling, have you been playing”???.
He could very easily have been bitten in that situation, which I’m sure would have been my or my dogs fault. Entitled, selfish, shoddy parents, please keep your children under control. Thank you. And before you tell me that YOUR children don’t behave like that, MY dogs are well trained, well behaved and no, I wouldn’t take them shopping.

Why did you take your dog into a restaurant?

ACertainKindOfLight · 23/09/2023 18:14

It will never go back, dogs are welcome now especially because shops are struggling.
It doesn't bother me, l have yet to see a dog do any of the things you mentioned and l work in a shop that welcomes dogs, the more the merrier. Staff particularly love them because so much nicer than dealing with cold faced miserable customers who are addicted to complaining.

Then keep your dog at home or find a child free cafe or child free space to take it.

MCOut · 23/09/2023 18:16

I truly do like dogs but I agree OP they’re everywhere. There is literally no need for a dog to be in a restaurant. A few weeks ago I was out for dinner with DP at a popular Central London restaurant on a Friday night and there were multiple dogs. It was absolute packed and loud so I don’t think they could possibly have been comfortable. Then one relieved itself next to the tables outside. It’s so unnecessary.

Ohcrappydoo · 23/09/2023 18:17

We went to a cafe recently that allowed dogs. It was filthy. The people next to us allowed their dogs to lick stuff off the table. They left and a new family came in - table was cleared but not wiped.

We told them and they decided to go elsewhere.

I absolutely love dogs! Love them and wish I had my own but I still find the fact they're everywhere very annoying (and unhygienic!)

Someone left their paddleboard on the shore a few weeks ago, they were in and out of the sea fairly often and a dog did a poo on it 🙈

Laiste · 23/09/2023 18:19

I wonder how many people are fatally mauled by children each year? Or bitten by one till they need stitches?

How many kids run through picnics, shit on pavements and piss on the floor of shops and markets?

Isn't it time we stopped with these stupid dogs compared with children posts? It makes you sound completely nuts.

12moose · 23/09/2023 18:19

Why on earth are people comparing dogs to children?

Dogs don't belong in restaurants though.

12moose · 23/09/2023 18:19

Why on earth are people comparing dogs to children?

Because for some reason they think it will mean they are justified in treating their dog as if it is one.

tangledearphones · 23/09/2023 18:20

I would actively avoid a 'dog friendly' cafe or bar.

I can't stand seeing them everywhere. I do understand that owners feel like their pets are a part of their family and should join them on outings. But I dare say a run in an open field/a dog park with lots to sniff and play with would suffice.

And I rarely get my children in the car from playing in a park without dog shit on one of their shoes. Absolutely beyond infuriating. Not the dogs fault - but their bastarding owners.

And also please stop telling me they're friendly as their claws dig into my thighs and dirty my clothing. I don't have a dog and don't want to own one. And I don't want yours on me either.

amechange · 23/09/2023 18:22

That is disgusting. Was this created off the back of my thread about whether or not I could bring mine in, in an enclosed carrier. Dogs putting their nose into stuff is wrong obviously though

Can I ask why owners like you do this? Instead of saying yuk those dogs’ owners should have controlled them, you bring up the actions of children? It’s odd but your type do it a lot. Do explain.

If a thread was about badly behaved kids and shit parents, I would nod along. Not say that I hate dogs.

It’s an unintelligent and pointless ‘defence’.

DiscoBeat · 23/09/2023 18:22

I haven't read your entire post but as a dog lover and owner I agree with you, Lush is no place for dogs. Far too many strong smelling chemicals. But also people are entitled to buy products not slobbered on.

Ohcrappydoo · 23/09/2023 18:22

It’s an unintelligent and pointless ‘defence’ absolutely 👏

IHeartGeneHunt · 23/09/2023 18:22

I love dogs. I've got a dog. I can't stand this treating dogs like they're children trend. I don't like dog friendly cafes, if I want to go for a coffee or whatever and take the dog we stay outside.
I saw bloody "wine" for dogs in Wilko yesterday.
YANBU.

yanbu
it's disgusting.
and dangerous for those who are allergic.
and probably very stressfull for the poor dogs.

yeveamgirl · 23/09/2023 18:27

Yabu.

clary · 23/09/2023 18:30

I am on your side op.

Went for a meal once with colleagues - we sat outside a pub, and one brought their dog along - it did a pooh right there on the ground. Put me off my tea for sure.

Agree with a pp, @Buildingthefuture why would you take your dog into a restaurant?

KajsaKavat · 23/09/2023 18:30

It’s so stupid, dogs are everywhere and owned almost entirely by people who haven’t for a clue it seems. No training, no common sense, no respect for other peoples boundaries. Hate it
