In expecting him to pick me up from the airport?

I'm currently travelling alone in Mexico and I realised I had made a mistake with my coach times to get home from the airport as I forgot about the time difference. A new ticket is £40 and a 6 hour coach journey returning home at 8pm by which time I will have been travelling for around 24 hours and I am back at work the next day. I rang my partner and asked if he could give me a lift from the airport , it is about a 2 and a half hour drive. He says he has a meeting at 10am and I land at 11:15, I said ok I don't mind waiting at the airport for you to arrive, he says he will be too tired as he drove 5 hours to Devon yesterday for a music show and he doesn't know how long the meeting will last so he can't do it and it's my fault that I fucked up the times. I said he was being selfish as I would go out of my way to help him in this situation. Who is being unreasonable here?

Well I'm home now anyway after the plane journey from hell with almost no sleep. Good old British airways sent a different plane with double the amount of business class seats meaning the seats in economy that everybody had booked e.g window and extra legroom didn't exist! Therefore lots of people complaining and a poor couple with a seven month old baby didn't get the bassinet they had paid for. The father then threw up everywhere in the middle of the flight including on the baby and the poor mum was trying to clean it up with baby wipes as the staff were useless. A nice man In front of me reclined his seat all the way back and wouldn't move it when I was trying to eat and told me I should have booked extra legroom tickets and he was entitled to do whatever he wanted. Oh and the food was awful congealed pasta. And I was told that there may only be one food option as they were running low! Also ran out of apple juice and Coca Cola. I didn't complain to the staff though so I'm not that entitled 😉

Because it's not direct and has a one hour stopover somewhere else on the way 🙄

Are you taking on board what people are saying here? Do you get why most people think you're being really unfair to your boyfriend?

dramallamamx · 26/09/2023 17:58

So after all the that the coach journey was the least of my worries 😂

I think the answer is a most emphatic no...

At least you had a good bit of relax time to get over your flight!

are you still angry with BF or have you decided to see it from his point of view a bit more?

Olika · 26/09/2023 19:12

I am so sorry to hear your flight was a nightmare but gosh your update made my laugh 😂

Whichsideoftherock · 26/09/2023 21:46

Sorry your return flight was so hellish op but glad you are home safely. Good luck with your new job tomorrow.

I’m one of the few posters on this thread who didn’t think YWBU. Whatever the right or wrongs of it, I think your bf’s response was rude.

If he had said, “I’m really sorry, I would have loved to pick you up - I’ve really missed you - sorry but my meeting tomorrow might run late, could I meet you half way?” …or something like that, I reckon op would feel less put out. But he didn’t, he got cross with her and rubbed in the fact that she’d made a booking error. I think that tells you a fair bit about him tbh.

But surely it’s not entitled to ask for help from someone you’re in a relationship with? I find this whole, you’ve fucked up, sort yourself out attitude really weird. If my sister, or husband, or close friend, called me saying oh no, I’ve messed this up can you help me, I would help them, not spitefully remind them
its their own fault. In my family, people help each other, if they can.

Yes, I would do this unthinkingly for my family too, and they would do it for me.

It's a five hour round trip (closer to six when you factor in stopping for food and navigating the airport) and it's during the working day.

Do you work? Would you give up a day of annual leave to do this for someone, even though they already have a perfectly good option to get home on the coach?

Been together since April .

He's hardly your partner after five months!

I don't see what the problem is with getting the coach. He's not unreasonable to refuse a non-urgent, unexpected long drive on a work day. Especially after a busy weekend driving.

You're both tired. You'd get to sleep on the coach, he'd have to drive when probably needs to rest.

That flight does sound awful but most of them do these days - full of covid, awful passengers, and D&V.
