On Instagram, has anyone seen? What are your thoughts?

the scientific method is taught from primary school tbf. I think lack of critical thinking is an issue. and/but mostly the issue is I think, celebrities (RB) are better communicators than most scientists.

I think Greta Thunberg is a good example of the importance of the way that we say things. She was invited to speak at the UN and meet world leaders. she wasn't saying anything new. Scientists have dedicated lifetimes to Climate Change and been saying the same for decades

MentholLoad · 27/09/2023 07:30

from what I have read, far from being a victim of main stream media, MSM made RB a millionaire and saved his life pretty much. didn't his bosses put him through rehab numerous times? wouldn't he still be a smack head/probably dead without MSM?

Anyone can spin a sexy story if they don’t have to tell the truth.

I don’t remember learning about the scientific method in primary or secondary - not beyond hypothesis, method, conclusion, anyway. Nothing about falsifiability and proper statistical analysis.

We did learn about source analysis in history - but these things should be core principles in every single lesson. Misinformation is deadly.

@Jumpingthruhoops there is no ringleader and there are no minions. This is Mumsnet, not a cult.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 09:27

You came onto this thread to support sex offender and professional misogynist Russell Brand and had your arse handed to you. It isn't bullying.

crikey. framing women who believe women who say they have been raped/sexually abused as the 'preferred narrative ' and 'bullies' is a really overt example of DARVO

AND reporting in MNHQ. It's transparent 🤷🏼‍♀️

I prefer to think of you as the ‘Women of Truth’. For an extraordinary, almost baroque price of just £49, I can welcome you into the inner coven where I promise you will bathe in the light of true understanding.

Don’t forget to like / subscribe 🥰

Opinions that aren't the 'preferred narrative' ARE repeatedly silenced and dismissed as 'conspiracy theories'.

Opinions not based on robust evidence (sars-cov-2 vaccines were a big mistake, women shouldn't have smear tests) are dismissed because they have been repeatedly disproven and there is a solid body of work behind this. Reputuable news outlets don't give nonsense airtime, for good reason @Jumpingthruhoops

There is nothing to stop influencers going to their preferred platform and making money from pushing out monetised vidoes/books/blogs, building up what can only be described as a cult-like following, and charging ££££ for giving talks and consultations though. Whilst screaming that they have been silenced and getting their followers to do the same.

The latest I've seen? A wellness blogger claiming glasses are harmful, they're another con of "big pharma" (or "big-opticians?") and we can all develop perfect vision with appropriate vitamins and healthy lifetsyle - and also some snakeoils she's selling. Hundreds of people paid to attend her class on this, god knows how many more bought products or have subscribed to her monestised channels.

As I've said on many a-COVID thread, a scientist can make far more by developing an "anti-mainstream science" niche than from just working as a normal researcher, it's an incredibly lucrative career path.

Drivingone · 27/09/2023 10:44

The family member I have who believes all RB's tripe is the same - if you dare to disagree, with facts and science, you're attacking them.

I think the type who buys into it will never have the clarity of self-reflection to realise the trap they've fallen into. It's very sad.

I don't doubt that in some cases there are elements of corruption and abuse of power within governments and of course the billionaires wield power - it's naive to think everything is fair and transparent.

But the point here is that Russell Brand is using his followers for money, "Be free! Pay your subscription!" to keep endorsing the fantasy of MSM attacks to cover up his predatory behaviour. He could, instead, take responsibility for the pain and harm he's caused to his victims.

Relying on the justice system to sort truth from fiction is great in theory, innocent until guilty etc, but the truth is that a TINY number of convictions for sexual offences like rape mean that many, many women have zero confidence that perpetrators will be found guilty. It's practically legal.

Women are not safe, we are not believed and then we are not protected.

So RB painting himself as a victim is ridiculous.

yeah, RB did not need to migrate to Bumble(?) did he. YouTube didn't shut him down, just demonitised his channel. he is doing it to make money

Exactly!

(With the small caveat that bumble is the dating app where women message first, so at least you wouldn't be taken by suprise with baroque monologues Grin Rumble is the platform that tends to provide a home for those have been demonitised elsewher)

I think in this case it didn't end well for them in that they were robustly challenged.

@WomblingTree86 I've never seen one end differently.

oops 😁

I used to like the way he talked when I was in my 20s (idiot). it really gets on my nerves now, so convoluted and pretentious. just like corporate speak, mostly designed as smoke and mirrors, to make the listener think that the speaker is much cleverer than they are and to try to obscure the fact that they don't know what they are talking about. all style, no substance

Afternoon, everyone. This thread got a bit derailed overnight and we've made quite a few deletions. We'd like to draw a line under this now and try and get the thread back on track, so we'd be grateful if any future posts could return to answering the OP. Thanks. Flowers

Brand just sounds like he has a thesaurus in the loo and picks out obfuscatory words he thinks will impress, and regurgitates them in a jumble, as a sort of vomitty verbiage.

He's a waffler.

It's so utterly alarming the garbage spouted online, so potentially dangerous to people's health and wellbeing.

An Eye hospital medic said that the amount of actively dangerous nonsense written about online is frightening.

She said ''Where are their appropriate medical degrees? Eyes are so precious, anyone with any concerns should see a qualified optician'' or if one is nearby, to visit a walk in Eye hospital.

The fact that a qualified scientist can develop an ''Anti Covid, anti Vaxx stance and make more money out of promoting that ''Anti Big Pharma'' stuff is alarming.

There were people who believed that trackers were inserted alongside the Covid vaccines. That can't even be done for animals, never mind people.

IClaudine · 27/09/2023 13:22

vomitty verbiage 🤣

Its5656 · 27/09/2023 13:35

Just watched his latest video on Instagram.
According to him the state are spying on us all. They aren't it's just a cctv lizard person robot being used in a New York subway. No mention of any of the claims against him.
I wonder if he actually believes the nonsense he speaks or is it just about deflection and money.

oakleaffy · 27/09/2023 13:49

''Deflection and money'' for sure.

I can't believe Brand believes his own nonsense.

Brand's followers keep quaffing the Kool aid though.
