Perhaps @Jumpingthruhoops can help us out, as they mentioned the mirroring issue. Jumping, you said

Also, some of the testimony in the documentary didn't entirely 'ring true' in that they used the exact wording from the accompanying footage they showed from his stand-up gig from over 20 years ago. Which, for me, made it questionable

Did you just mean the mascara running thing Jumping or did you notice other examples too?

Yes, the 'mascara running' testimony from two separate women. Also, how the first two spoke about him 'shoving his penis down their throat' was pretty much EXACTLY how he described it in his stand-up routine. As a viewer, it simply wasn't clear whether Dispatches had obtained the clips to support the testimony... or the other way around.

I suppose the biggest red flag for me was when someone off-camera asks his former PA: 'Do you ever worry that there was a lack of consent from any of the women that he might have been sleeping with?'.
I mean, talk about a loaded question!! This suggested to me there was a very definite agenda and is what made me really question how 'authentic' these testimonies were.

@Jumpingthruhoops / you have no facts. You have Brand's little thought process.

Where are your facts?

Oh dear... another one who have never watched his content!

The facts are in the official stats, report, studies etc that is shown on screen as he is talking alongside the source, ie, The Lancet, BMJ etc.

Best thing to do is take a look and you'll see what I mean.

WomblingTree86 · 25/09/2023 19:00

Jumpingthruhoops · 25/09/2023 17:57

He's hardly an anti-vaxxer - he's had all the jabs and encouraged people to get them initially. He has simply grown a little concerned with many official stats since.

He displays the papers on screen whilst talking through them and, pointedly, doesn't offer an opinion one way or another. So not much 'cherry picking' as far as I can see. But, as always, anyone who provides such information is a 'conspiracy theorist'.

I'm curious... if a person who presents an audience with medical, scientific reports and official govt data is a conspiracy theorist, what do we call someone who who, er, presents an audience with medical, scientific reports and official govt data?

He had two jabs initially and while he encouraged people then he soon switched when he saw anti vaxx makes money. He makes millions now. I have watched many of his videos and having read the papers too, he absolutely cherry picks and deliberately misinterprets the papers and while telling people that we are not saying.... when he quite clearly is but is trying not to get banned for misinformation. I haven't got time to go over each one but plenty of others have.

It is quite possible to take a quote or statistic out of context from a reputable source, and make it mean whatever you want it to.

The entire anti-vaccine industry is built on using this tactic. I can't speak for his other videos, but ones regarding COVID and vaccines are complete and utter nonsense @Jumpingthruhoops

Scientists - real ones - are concerned about worsening overall health and increased mortality. There are multiple contributing factors which are being robustly evaluated.

They aren't however pinning it on a vaccine that the majority had over two years ago. What he's doing is incredibly irresponsible.

Do you not find it curious that the scientists and clinicians who prepared these manuscripts do come to the same conclusions as he does? And that tens of thousands of experts worldwide do not believe that offering SARS-COV-2 vaccines to the general population was a mistake?

Furryrug · 25/09/2023 19:19

So , he's being investigated by the police.

bombastix · 25/09/2023 19:21

Facts need to be presented. They have not been. The people who have established them do not agree or endorse Brand.

He gives you an opinion. Not one fact of his own.

Why not?

Because he knows that his word is not credible. He gathers up those who don't know the difference.

vlo · 25/09/2023 19:22

Christ, just taken a glance at the youtube video he released today. Brazen – all guns blazing, 30 mins talking about how he’s being silenced.

I don’t think the stuff he talks about is ‘conspiracy theory’ stuff (ie nonsense paranoia) – the pharmaceutical industry, the relationship between the media and the state, etc., etc. – they’re all topics worthy of discussion and scrutiny. There are obviously plenty of shady parties out there trying to manipulate public discourse and information in the public realm for their own gain – I mean just look at Brexit, or have a read of ‘Bad Pharma’ by Ben Goldacre.

The only thing I’d contest is that his discussing these things explains away the allegations against him – he’s obviously repurposed this as a motive for attacking him.

It’s v weird to watch.

bombastix · 25/09/2023 19:25

Ben Goldacre is scientific journalist who is credible and advances credible facts to his readers.

Brand is a fact free zone. He never concludes himself. Ever. It's all suggested. That is not credible, it's just entertainment.

I tried to watch Brand's latest video (note he wants people to go to Rumble rather than You Tube, wonder why🤑), but I can't take his rambling delivery. He comes across as slightly unhinged.

I’d go further - it’s not entertainment, it’s brainwashing. The words, mannerisms, presentation - all designed to reel in fools and fantasists and keep the gravy train rolling.

If there was merit or truth in his words, why not subject them to the same scrutiny as documentaries and articles on MSM?

The flat earther, anti-vax, climate change brigade will try to present it as a conspiracy, but the simple truth is that they can’t lie on MSM as easily as on the unregulated social platforms.

It’s not entirely the fault of the audience, of course - science and critical thinking education is woeful. Of course people don’t understand truth - they aren’t taught how to evaluate sources or fact check.

And grifters like Brand exploit them to make millions at the cost of society. Kind of like the lizard people who control our medicine and food from a central point and put up 5G masts to give us all Covid.

He must be shitting himself at the thought of Belmarsh.

Jumpingthruhoops · 25/09/2023 01:33

Er, that's not quite what happened. But OK.

It is what happened @Jumpingthruhoops. And he has been grooming his followers since then.

Drivingone · 25/09/2023 19:43

I doubt the conspiracy theorists even believe their own rhetoric; they're only interested in making money. It's exploitative brainwashing, but their audience is willing. They want to feel superior.

Brand obviously had another motive for his platform, such a handy excuse to blame a media attack. He knew this was coming, it's all been a smokescreen.

Bingbangbongbash · 25/09/2023 20:02

There’s also a surprising lack of coverage from the conspiracy nuts about the attorney general’s ‘advisory note’ to editors warning them about reporting on Brand. It has no basis in law, of course, but on the face of it, it’s a worrying flex against the free press.

Now, ignoring for a second that it does have no basis in law, why on earth would the ‘establishment’, purportedly hell-bent on discrediting the messianic truth teller, try to silence the press over the rape allegations?

Not very in-keeping with their plan to cancel him, is it?

Or is it a double bluff?

Curiouser and curiouser…

Great point. Smear tests are another good example of this. Technically the info on false positives and the resulting consequences are there to be found but they aren’t in the public consciousness.

Exactly this. Because the findings would no doubt be detrimental to the objective of getting as many women screened as possible. For both health and financial reasons.

Did anybody see the daily mail article about Russell Brand moving in with a couple who were heroin addicts. He paid the man £50 to have sex with his girlfriend and spent the week taking drugs with them. Brands manager had to take care of the couple's baby because every one else was out of it.
It's becoming more and more evident that this nice guy persona is an act.. Absolute scum bag.

Are you serious!? Yes, he WAS a heroin addict but, at 20 years clean, don't you think he may have changed, just a tad?

Fair play to you, though. It must be so lovely being whiter than white. 🙄
