To think having XL bullies around children is child neglect?

To think that parents who have XL Bullies in the house with children should be investigated for child neglect. Its the same as leaving a child with a loaded gun to play with. What the hell is wrong with people that are willing to take this chance with their children’s lives?

“Something unrelated to breed is going on and until we look at that aspect of it, nothing will change. In 2 or 3 years we will be back here debating a new crossbreed. “

^ This. Banning won’t work. Stop breeding irresponsibly- but funnily enough nobody seems remotely interested in pursuing that angle.

There isn’t one issue - there are many issues. Breeders, owners and the actual dog itself. It’s a perfect storm.

No need to blame lockdown. Crap owners would be crap owners regardless. Most don’t even walk these beasts as they are too strong for them and they have no interest in training. Combined with a dog who is breed for fighting, with dna of a Pit, and you have a dog who is predisposed to having a low tolerance of people and other animals.

And again, the point is, ALL dogs can bite but if an XL bully has its mouth around you, you’re going to need more than a plaster. It’s the difference between a butter knife and a machete.

They have been here a LOT longer than 7/8 years.

They've gone under the name 'XL Bully' for only a short time. Previous to that they were pitbulls, they were american bulldogs, they were Gull Terrs, Bully Kuttas, Banne Dogs and Alaunts..

They were big, powerful, 'bull and terrier' types that we have had for 100s of years in one flavour, size and 'brand' or another.

The shape has changed a bit over the years, but these are multigeneration crossbreeds of a handful of types... and until the last couple of years, they have NOT been killing people and dogs left right and centre.

Then we had lockdown. Then we had a HUGE increase in puppy prices - a nicely bred lurcher that would have cost me £250 or less pre pandemic went up to 2K, for pedigree dogs, dogs of a predictable type or 'ego' boosting types, that went to 3, 4, 5, 6K...

We also increased the divide between the wealthy and the poor. We increased the fear, the disrespect for our shit-shower of a government and for our laws.

The government during the pandemic saw no reason to do anything about the rapid rise in puppy prices (we did raise it), saw no reason to help out trainers and behaviourists, vets or any of the people who are usually involved in ethical breeding, training and handling...

We saw a HUGE rise in quick fix, aversive 'bully boy' training tactics being pushed on Tiktok and similar platforms.

We saw a HUGE rise in celebs and the like importing 'personal protection family pets'... ie Dobermans, Giant Schnauzers, Rotties, Malinois, Cane Corsos... trained to bring down bad guys at a single command...

Another massive rise in awful, abusive trainers promoting such training ideas with horrific methods, to Joe Average...

And a lack of socialisation and habituation.

Those horribly badly bred dogs, trained and raised with awful methods or just pure ignorance were adolescents at the time we started seeing the sharp rise in attacks and deaths.

No one listened again when trainers and behaviourists said 'there is a problem and its going to be a fucking massive one'... We tried to stop importing cropped dogs so we could deal with the illegal ear cropping, that goes hand in hand with breeding dangerous animals, and using horrific training methods, and is a front for money laundering... (and the illegal repro clinics!)...

We've tried to get various abusive training methods banned, we're STILL waiting on the electric shock collar ban and its only remote operated collars, not bark collars, fence collars, spray collars and no hint we're ever going to ban prong collars or choke collars (as france have done).

I could list you 20 behaviourists, veterinary behaviourists and trainers off the top of my head who said 2/3 years ago, that this was coming. Who said when we banned pitbulls, that this was a risk... this is not shock, brand new, omg what a mystery news, to a lot of us within the canine industry. Not at all.

If we could follow the cases of the dogs who have killed, and have all that case history, I guarantee you, the dogs behaviour WAS predictable - to an expert. Unfortunately, whilst most dog owners believe themselves to be experts, very very few are.

Do you have children? Do you know people with children? If so stay the fuck away from them because you must be on crack if you can sit there and say that putting children in the room with xl bully's is the same as putting them in the room with a loaded gun.. That is the funniest thing I have read in all of my life.. I own an xl bully and I used to own a mastiff.. The mastiff became very viscous so I got rid of him because of the safety of my children.. The xl I would trust with my kids lives and just to rub it in a little bit more my 10 month old son adores my bully he feeds him toast on a morning and not once has my xl shown any form of aggression or domination in my house FYI I also have 2 other dogs that he runs around with so my guess is your just an uneducated moron who has watched the news and believed every single word when I can say right now that it's wrong and most of the killings are done by cross breeds. Get your facts straight before you start coming at family's with xl bully's because there are plenty of xl bully mums/dads that have kids and do not have to worry about a single thing because THEY RAISED THEIR BULLY'S RIGHT! In the wrong hands any dog can switch so don't discriminate against a breed of dog just because people clearly don't have the knowledge they need to make a judgment.

We are looking to buy an apartment, we are much closer to exchange and now found out that on floor below us there is American bully lives and takes same lift. Owner seems very nice and decent person. We have a 1 yr old boy. and this is very nice place with spacious communal garden for him to play. Should we be worried about the dog ? We both are very scared of dogs and now specially a bully looks likes very scary to look though it’s not a XL bully. What should we do ? Please advice

99.99% of bull breed type dogs will never bite a human, and even fewer of them will go on to maul, seriously injure, or kill a person. This is why it is news. It's rare, and therefore it sells newspapers.

"Large breed dog peacefully rides in lift and enjoys being patted by a member of the public" happens multiple times a day, in dozens of blocks of flats, all around the world, but it doesn't sell papers.

If you're really worried, you could read up on canine behaviour. Once you know the warning signs, it is easy to spot when a dog is feeling uncomfortable or is highly aroused.

@Peppenero in the UK? American Bullies are very sweet, a friend has one. Totally different from an XL. Teach your DC how to behave around the dog in the lift and it will be fine.
