To think that no matter where you go on holiday there's always annoying loud twats

We're staying in a very expensive 5 star resort in Europe. Beautiful, gorgeous views, top notch food and drink. Sat here sipping iced tea and enjoying my book.

Then the family from hell parks themselves next to me. On the beers already, quite possibly already drunk. (it's early). Proceed to have very loud conversation peppered with lots of 'fucks' which everyone around the pool can hear. Do these people have no self awareness? I mean, I know I could move but I'm comfy now and why should I?

First world problem, I know. Maybe villa holidays are the way forward.

Have you made up with shouty DH OP?

Kind of. But he's still fucking grumpy. He apologised.

Next year I'm holidaying with friends!

We do adults only all inclusive smaller ship cruises (not those horrendous enormous floating apartment block resort ships). No ffh there.

What company. That sounds like heaven

I wasn’t sneering at overweight people

but yes… overweight people walking along with towering plates of food…. Is sort of low level morbidly entertaining. Akin to watching a a couple have a massive barmy pool side

Presumably you wouldn't find slim people with 'towering plates of food' similarly entertaining, so it's still sneering in my book.

More intriguing than anything else

Re a slim person with a towering plate of food

I’d probably think… marathon training! Or amazing metabolism! Or… getting it for her string bean teenage son!

Today's annoyance for anyone who is still interested.

Am just watching two little shits whacking the hell out of a hotel pedalo with their plastic toys. When the watersports guy bollocked them the loud baldy Northern twat dad magically appeared to tell them off. He was quite happy for them to piss other people off until someone else had to tell his kids off for him

I think wherever you go nowadays there are loud annoying twats ruining it for everyone. Even in the library earlier a dad was allowing his two children to run up and down the length of the place, annoying people trying to study or read the paper. The staff did nothing. Libraries used to be the last bastion of peace and silence.

LlynTegid · 23/09/2023 14:44

Never had that in the south of France, even in places where other British people are there. Though have not had to holiday in school holiday time for a few years.

LlynTegid · 23/09/2023 14:45

@SleeplessinSeattle53 that seems a good reason for saying something. Even if you dress it up as 'your mum and dad would love it if you behaved' or similar.

Dacadactyl · 23/09/2023 14:46

I think there are big differences in 5 star resorts.

We were away over summer and ours was lovely and perfect. No loud, rude people at all.

We went to visit another so called 5 star resort to do a specific activity and if id have gone there instead of our hotel, I'd have been massively disappointed.

We weren't on a package holiday tho, so maybe that's the difference.

I don't come on holiday to manage other people's kids for them.

Does everyone on MN really go to non tourist resorts containing remote gites on holiday? Really?

There’s a huge gap between “remote gites” and all inclusive resorts full of sunburnt Brits who start on the beers after breakfast.

I’m a single mother and all my holidays with DD have been on a budget but I do city breaks with Airbnb or self catering as opposed to AI.

You don’t need to pay a fortune to avoid loud, annoying drunks, just need to put some thought into it.

No. This doesn't happen to us. We tend to choose quiet, non touristy places that don't appeal to the type who just want to drink all day.

We aren't snobby about package holdays. In fact the last few have been packages, but not all package holidays are all inclusive/appeal to the lowest common denominator/pile 'em high sell 'em cheap etc type of holidays.

We use tour operators to get accommodation and flight tansfers, plus the extra protection you get in case things go wrong, but we do our own thing when there.

As I said up thread we stayed in a hotel off the tourist track with no other Brits and we still ended up with a family from hell wearing matching football shirts swearing loudly and moaning that the menu wasn’t in English - admittedly they were only passing through for one night but it would have been last place i would have expected to see/hear it

And we put a lot of thought into booking a b&b off the beaten track

Thepeopleversuswork · 23/09/2023 15:23

@SamW98

Yeah there is no way to systematically exclude people like this (unless perhaps you pay vast amounts and then you just get a different flavour of wanker).

But if you go to all inclusive med resort you are definitely maximising the likelihood of the “Brits abroad” tendency. Too high a risk to be worth it for me and they aren’t even all that cheap.

The concept of indoor voices seems to be lost.

This is true. I love a people watch - but down at the beach and well away from the hotel.

There's a fine line between amusing and alarming. And having to move the kids.

Here's your strap line OP:

Twat Free Holidays - Where You Can Relax Without Some Cunt Effing and Jeffing Next to You All Fucking Day.

I think @Laiste just sold me a holiday 😂

Where do I sign for my twat free break?
