To think that no matter where you go on holiday there's always annoying loud twats

We're staying in a very expensive 5 star resort in Europe. Beautiful, gorgeous views, top notch food and drink. Sat here sipping iced tea and enjoying my book.

Then the family from hell parks themselves next to me. On the beers already, quite possibly already drunk. (it's early). Proceed to have very loud conversation peppered with lots of 'fucks' which everyone around the pool can hear. Do these people have no self awareness? I mean, I know I could move but I'm comfy now and why should I?

First world problem, I know. Maybe villa holidays are the way forward.

There's a couple here attempting to drink the place dry of rosé. Ordering glass after glass after glass to their sunbeds. Must have had two bottles each. Determined to get their £2k+ each worth. Am judging them hard.

Don’t you have a nice book on the go? A companion to talk to?

it seems like you’ve spent the entire day glued to your screen tapping away furiously!

The worst I encountered was a young couple on sun loungers by the pool, she topless, he stroking her whilst she read aloud to him from 50 shades of grey. At a basic all inclusive in canaries. Creepy

That sounds bloody hilarious.

Go for a stroll? A swim?

TregunaMekoides · 21/09/2023 14:51

I went to Tokyo on holiday this year. No loud twats.

To anyone who knows Thailand, well, especially Bangkok, there used to be a place on circumvent soi 2 that was known for its strict policy toward keeping… Rowdy people away. Especially… People who want to go to Thailand, too… Well, I’m sure you can use your imagination and figure that one out. But they had on their website that anybody who enjoyed those things was not welcome there, and it was a very interesting experience to stay there. I did really enjoy it, I stayed there over Christmas and they had a Christmas Buffay and I got to know the people who ran the place quite well. Anyway, this thread just made me think of that place.

I spent many years in Vietnam, and because I was in the central region, and I also have a disability, it was easier to live in a guesthouse, or to live with my colleague, who also run his own guesthouse. Anyway, I was in daily contact with tourists, and it open the window to all kinds of people. I met some genuinely pleasant and interesting people over the years, some of whom I am still in contact with. On the other hand, I have had to try and sleep through somebody having a… Very very loud session in bed, all night. It was the conversation of the staff next day. there were a couple of people who thought it was OK to come in through my balcony door because they were locked outside on the balcony. Sometimes, people would apologize, but when I said to somebody to, please let me know first before they barged into my room, they told me to F off. I can think of many other experiences over the years… But when people go on holiday, some of them forget to bring their manners, or their thinking skills, or whatever else.

Sorry everyone, I am using dictation, and it does not write time names correctly, but that should have been Sukhumvit

@Youspoilus didn't realise there was a law against amusing yourself by MNing whilst on holiday.

Well it looks like we've turned into the annoying loud twats. Or at least my OH has. He yelled at me this morning in front of other people because he was grumpy & tired. So I'm on the beach on my own and I have no idea where he is.

Bloomin heck Op, sounds shit.

Kick back, sunbathe, have a cocktail, and then drop him a line and say that you hope he’s over his tizz and can you both bow please enjoy the holiday. Together

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 22/09/2023 10:28

Yep. And that was after HE woke ME up at 2am by putting all the lights on. I'm not happy.

OP you should try holidaying in other parts of the world. Japan - Okinawa has lovely resorts and is very quiet. Bali, Marrakesh - you can get gorgeous staffed villas including cooks that will prepare your meals and chauffeurs to drive you around. Borneo, Chiang Mai - some very nice hotels that appeal more to people who like nature and quiet.

I haven’t seen a FFH in years, but we mostly do villas and independent hotels.

usernother · 22/09/2023 10:52

This year we've stayed in a very expensive AI and quite cheap hotel that wasn't AI. Both in popular tourist destinations in Europe. For the first time ever there wasn't any loud annoying twats in either hotel. It was lovely. I like peace on holiday. I don't want to hear conversations from the other side of the pool. I don't want to have our conversation to each other drowned out whilst sitting next to rent a gob family in the bar at night. In my experience these families tend to be from the south east of England for some reason.

I think there may be a gap in the market for a chain of exclusive hotels where you have to pass an interview prior to booking to prove you're not a twat. May pitch it to Dragons Den, just need a spare 100 million or so to get started.

Oh God.. YES! 😂😂😂😂 I'm in! We try to go adults only to avoid screaming kids but you still get the adults who have no social awareness. I'm all for weeding out the OTT loud mouths who cannot string three words together without effing and jeffing. Add to that the ones who come to the pool/beach with their speakers to inflict their music choice onto everyone and the chain smokers who always seem to set up next to us.

Omg. I've never stayed anywhere where people play their own music at the pool or beach. I'd be really pissed off, especially at the pool.

Ugh. I have to be so careful with rosé. Cheap stuff gives me an awful headache even at parties. Drinking it in the sun doesn’t bear thinking about.

SamW98 · 22/09/2023 11:12

I’ve usually gone to fairly small hotels away from the busiest resorts but even then I’ve had the odd encounter.

I remember going to a 32 room hotel on Greek mainland and the first week was absolute bliss - chilled out and peaceful. Then week two a lot of people went home and a wedding party from Romford arrived. Now I live in Essex so it’s not a snobbery thing but they took the place over. Loud, swearing, drinking all day long. The men taking up the whole pool playing ball games meaning the kids couldn’t swim. Then the women getting so drunk that two of them started pole dancing grinding up and down the umbrellas.

They were absolutely obnoxious rude and pushed people out the way to take over the pool bar. Such a shame as it spoiled what had started as a brilliant holiday.

It's even worse when there are two of them and we have got stuck in the middle. The conflicting music can then be heard from both sides and is infinitely more annoying than just one! We holiday in 4/5 hotels and it is a problem we've encountered many times. One guy even said, by way of conversation, "I don't do headphones as it spoils my enjoyment of the music!" 🥴 Yeah great if you like 80s pop.....(which I don't!) 😂

How does their being overweight make it more cathartic?

Personally speaking… it is quite fun (and also disturbing) watching towering plates of pastries being snaffled by overweight guests.

This thread is horrible. Why do so many people still think it's fine to laugh at bigger people?

I never targeted bigger people. I'm overweight.

I know you didn't, but several on here seem to think it's fine to sneer at bigger people.
