To think that no matter where you go on holiday there's always annoying loud twats

We're staying in a very expensive 5 star resort in Europe. Beautiful, gorgeous views, top notch food and drink. Sat here sipping iced tea and enjoying my book.

Then the family from hell parks themselves next to me. On the beers already, quite possibly already drunk. (it's early). Proceed to have very loud conversation peppered with lots of 'fucks' which everyone around the pool can hear. Do these people have no self awareness? I mean, I know I could move but I'm comfy now and why should I?

First world problem, I know. Maybe villa holidays are the way forward.

Personally speaking… it is quite fun (and also disturbing) watching towering plates of pastries being snaffled by overweight guests.

You're not really one for cultural sightseeing breaks, are you?

Adults only generally keeps the scrotes away Grin

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 22/09/2023 15:19

I'd also add that I don't eat piles of pastries. Can't lose weight due to the sodding menopause.

Unless they're sex pests.

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 22/09/2023 15:38

Sadly Ikos don't do adults only. Their whole brand is family friendly. But weirdly, it's the people here without kids who have been the twats.

The one we were most surprised at was when we stayed in a hotel high on the hills in Cataluña and were the only British guests.

Then after a few days, a family turned up all wearing Liverpool shirts who proceeded to play very loud music round the (extremely quiet) pool, drink their own cans of beer and shout very loudly with every 3rd word being f .
In the hotel restaurant that night, the mother had a very loud rant about not being able to read the menu and ‘does no one speak English in this effing place’

It really was one of those situations where you wonder how on earth they actually ended up there 🤷‍♀️

Thankfully they only stayed that one night and peace was restored.

We went to the Drunken Duck Inn in Cumbria, it's expensive, it's aimed at couples, there were 2 of the most annoying people I've ever had the misfortune to sit next to at dinner. Loud, incredibly posh, wearing red trousers, pissed as farts....

Glittertwins · 22/09/2023 15:41

We had a loud annoying twat who strolled up to the pool with a massive portable speaker (on a shoulder strap) who decided the entire pool area now had to listen to his garbage instead of what the hotel had as background music. He then left it and wandered off again, clearly trying educate the rest of us.
Hotel management dealt with it pretty quickly

LOL. Always the red trousers if they're posh.

By kicking it into the pool?

ACertainKindOfLight · 22/09/2023 15:53

Reminds me of that incident on a train, a man was talking very loudly on his phone, giving the impression he had a very important job etc, , a few minutes later somebody in the carriage suffered a heart attack and a member of staff asked the man if he could use his phone to call emergency services, the man had to admit it was a fake phone, didn't even work, how embarrasing.

Does everyone on MN really go to non tourist resorts containing remote gites on holiday? Really?

I definitely wouldn’t go to a resort type place because I would suspect it would be full of noisy arseholes. Just not my vibe.

There is no way on earth I would holiday somewhere with a shared pool. Absolute hell.

Most of our holidays are villas or small hotels in culture vulture destinations. Loud mouths do turn up every now and then but that’s life.

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 21/09/2023 10:31

I like the idea of villas but there's no one to wait on you and cook your food.

That’s what the bars, cafes and restaurants are for…

StillWantingADog · 22/09/2023 16:00

Notably the worst place for this was a fairly posh hotel we stayed at in Penang, Malaysia. I was ashamed to share nationality with such plonkers.

Sharm el Sheikh was pretty bad in general. As was the Bahamas (Americans there, not Brits)

Our hotel in Koh Samui was full of drunk, noisy Russians. Quite intimidating tbh when we were close to being the only non-Russians.

but generally in europe no. But we have tended to stay in (nice) campsites and Center-parcs type places not AI beach resorts as part of a package. A bit of research goes a long way but even then you can be unlucky with who turns up next door.

Glittertwins · 22/09/2023 16:02

@SurprisedWithAHorse - DC were threatening to do that and it was tempting.

It's very hard to see the reflective ground around an outdoor pool in bright sunlight. You could easily kick it in completely by accident.

HartlandRoad · 22/09/2023 16:06

You don't even need to go on holiday to encounter such assholes. They're in my favourite coffee shop also, at 10am, when everyone's quietly enjoying their coffees while mindlessly browsing tiktok, working on their laptops or reading, they receive phonecalls, let their phones ring loudly for ages, respond loudly, put it on speakerphone and proceed to have the whole conversation in full hearing of everyone else.

Glittertwins · 22/09/2023 16:06

Shame it didn't get mistaken for the volleyball really. Oh well, at least it was removed unlike some other people's experiences on here

Youspoilus · 22/09/2023 16:31

Youspoilus · 22/09/2023 16:43

I wasn’t sneering at overweight people

but yes… overweight people walking along with towering plates of food…. Is sort of low level morbidly entertaining. Akin to watching a a couple have a massive barmy pool side

ChestnutShell3 · 22/09/2023 16:51

Went to book a holiday today. Was looking at around £4K for a family of 4 to go to the Balearics during May half term. That’s such a lot of money only for it to be spoilt by the loud idiots.
We’ve decided to book a different type of holiday to try and avoid this - I’d love a villa but the DC would be bored without other children to play with. And to be fair, I do remember that being such a nice part of a holiday when I was a child.
Looking at the possibility of booking a very small hotel with a little pool, but then booking lots of water sports and activities, and plenty of beach time.

There wasn't even anything between these two phrases.

Youspoilus · 22/09/2023 17:03

You do see the difference between overweight people versus overweight people carrying towering plates of food? Or don’t you?

Youspoilus · 22/09/2023 17:03

Unless of course you are judging every single overweight person to always be carrying towering plates of food on holiday?
