Airbnb bed not king size

ViaRia01 · 18/09/2023 06:06

Currently away in an Airbnb, we checked in last night.

As soon as I got into bed I realised it was a double, not a king size. King size was stated in the listing before we booked. I checked the listing again and it says king size.

AIBU to say something to the hosts and what (if anything) could I expect from them to compensate?

We have a king at home so we are noticing the difference. We can manage perfectly well in a double but I feel shortchanged and misled. There is a good chance we would not have booked this place if it had been listed as a double.

what do you think?

What do you want to happen?

if everything else ok I would maybe just e mail the owner to day your listing not fully accurate or possibly mention in the review.

cuckyplunt · 18/09/2023 06:11

We are both 6ft 2 and not skinny, we would not manage in a double bed and this would impact strongly on our stay. We would certainly be complaining, expect a good percentage compensation and expect the listing to be changed.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 18/09/2023 06:12

Email them and politely point out you think they may have made a mistake in the bed size. I wouldn't be seeking compensation that seems rather churlish

shearwater · 18/09/2023 06:13

Compensation? Christ. I would ask them to correct the listing and crack on with the stay.

Frenchfancy · 18/09/2023 06:14

You need a tape measure so you can take a photo of the actual size.

Barleycat · 18/09/2023 06:14

I find this all the time, same thing happened to us at the weekend. It seems par for the course tbh when renting places, one of us usually ends up on the sofa. It is v annoying but I've never mentioned it in a review, maybe I will from now on

Elvis1956 · 18/09/2023 06:32

Wow, and if they have left a pea under the mattress would you feel it. Just ask them to correct the listing. It's not like there is no running water or anything vital.... people these days.... what you going to do sue them?

AuntieEsther · 18/09/2023 06:38

Definitely contact them. I don't think you can expect compensation but they have done wrong by selling it as king size when it's not.

rabbitbabbitt · 18/09/2023 06:39

Legally, it falls under misrepresentation so you could ask for some money off or just let them know and mention it in the review.

Poppyblush · 18/09/2023 06:40

Complain!

Bleuuuughhh · 18/09/2023 06:40

There seems to be a lot of derision about this issue. My husband is 6”5 and I had four cracked ribs. We booked an Airbnb looking for king size and exactly the same thing happened. It meant that we took it in turns to sleep on the floor. Yes, we should have complained but we were too pussy willow…

MBappse · 18/09/2023 06:41

Definitely complain. The service is not what you paid for = get a refund.

Oysterbabe · 18/09/2023 06:42

I'd just mention it in the review.

autienotnaughty · 18/09/2023 06:43

I'd just say something in the review. It's not worth a complaint unless you are both over 6ft.

Sleeping on the sofa is better than sharing a double? I can't see how that can be.

Some people really struggle to sleep. I'm one of them. I have very disturbed sleep if I share a bed smaller than a king size with DP. I wouldn't choose to sleep on a sofa instead but only because that would be just as bad for me.

Cheerfulcharlie · 18/09/2023 06:52

I think it’s quite a big deal. When I’m looking at airbnbs I avoid booking one without at least a king sized as we can’t get a good night’s sleep in a double and poor sleep really impacts a holiday!
You should complain and mention it in the review so others are aware.

Busbygirl · 18/09/2023 06:56

Are king size beds longer than double beds?

weekfour · 18/09/2023 06:56

I recently spent a five day stay on a settee because I can't fit in a double with my husband.

Some people drive me insane how they can't see out of their own little sphere of existence.

I'd want money back. And from my experience you'll get it. Airbnb will be as pissed off as you because the advert is misrepresentation. Complain.

squashi · 18/09/2023 06:57

I'd mention it to the owner and maybe suggest that they change the description in the listing. I wouldn't ask for compensation.

DisquietintheRanks · 18/09/2023 06:59

I specifically look for a king size when I book and I'd be extremely pissed off to turn up and find a double. YANBU - and I'd expect money off too. It's false advertising.

ViaRia01 · 18/09/2023 07:00

@shearwater not sure what this has to do with Christ? Compensate does not always mean the same as financial compensation. The listing was wrong, I’m just wondering what others might do (if anything) about that. I ruled out other options because they didn’t have a king size bed so yes, I’m a little disappointed.

Did you sleep OK in it?

If so I wouldn't ask for compensation, but just point it out to them.

Strugglingtodomybest · 18/09/2023 07:00

Most Airbnb's I've stayed in would absolutely want to know that this was a problem as they're desperate for their 5* reviews, so I would definitely tell them. Personally, I wouldn't expect compensation.

Lovingitallnow · 18/09/2023 07:02

Get a tape measure because IKEA have different sizes to standard mattress and that could cause confusion (so a king is smaller than a standard king) And I think America have different sizes as well- somewhere has King as the biggest and somewhere a queen is the biggest. And some places don't have queens at all- just a King and Super King.
