AIBU to think... 'here we go again?'

Anyone watching? I've always said 'innocent until proven guilty' but also 'there is no smoke without fire'.

Having been sexually assaulted myself, one of the stories seem so similar to mine.

What's your thoughts?

This is the most confusing post, I know. I just don't know how I feel.

But has no one noticed that they never said the results of the DNA samples? Somewhere, they must have a record of those samples, if they weren't processed at the time it needs to be done now to confirm or refute what happened.
Because currently it's nowhere near iron clad. And if this does now go to court it will need to be to get anywhere, we all know how low conviction rates are.

I think you think you sound like an authority but really you don’t.

The police were involved at the time, they really don’t need your ‘expertise’.

I don’t know what to think about this but I’d like to point out that Russel is nothing like Jimmy Saville. Russell’s life was absolute chaos and he’d have had very willing girls throwing themselves at him. He was a very attractive man. He was totally over the top and I imagine took things too far. I’m not apologising for him but I don’t think he’s a monster.

The youtube thing I very much doubt was pre-meditated. He’s got over six million followers and because of his way with words he can churn out a video every day with minimal planning/editing. Most videos are getting between 500k and one million views and that’s thousands of pounds every day. He’s just one of the many people who aren’t actually right wing but have started to make a fortune appealing to the right-wingers of YouTube (like Neil Oliver). So that’s how his channel has evolved.

Seriously??

Biochemist · 17/09/2023 12:52

There is such a push now to be a contrarian and argue against something that is a mainstream view for the sake of it, despite all the evidence put in front of someone.

Never thought I'd see it specifically on MN regarding SA, it's terrifying.

I also find it interesting that, for whatever reason, HE did not get this level of support on MN, despite being acccused of much less worse things (i.e., nothing illegal). Presumably because he didn't have a hard fan base recruited by pushing out conspiracy theory content?

But I haven't done that. I have condemned rape.

No need to lie to try to make a point.

Yea, you have consistently tried to apologise for rape.

Shame on you.

RB is not brilliant minded.

He talks a lot but doesn’t say much of substance.

You seem to have been sucked in by the hype.

You sound like another fangirl.

user9630721458 · 17/09/2023 12:56

As far as I know Turing did nothing wrong. Rather different to this situation where people have, allegedly, been assaulted.

What a disgusting post. Homosexuality and being a sexual abuser are in no way analogous.

Fannyfiggs · 17/09/2023 12:59

I 100% believe the women and think this is just the tip of the iceberg with Brand. I also think there will be other 'celebrities' absolutely shitting their pants.

This exposé is another small step for women in the giant leap for womenkind against abuse and sexual exploitation.

Are we talking about the same person who described the accusations as "barouque"?

He knows how to use fancy sounding words that the majority of his fan base do not realise make literally no sense.

And yes, disgusting to compare same sex relationships with sexual assault and rape?!

Turin didn't hurt anyone.
And he was actually innovative and brilliant, though that's actually irrelevant.

Brand is a serial abuser, rapist and extremely dangerous man- and brilliant only at talking and perhaps manipulation, though again that's irrelevant.

Don't compare apples and pears as it makes you look daft.

pickledandpuzzled · 17/09/2023 13:06

Dear god this is depressing.

I'm on the fence. Brand has come out and out against the tory government. He stacked tge facts, makes what he says pretty undeniable, then wham this hits the news.

Keep an open mind, he is no Jimmy Saville.

So you know him well then, how did you meet?

blebb · 17/09/2023 13:10

This talk of him creating his channel as a means to defend himself knowing this witch hunt was coming is just absurd.

Why it is absurd? @AngelinaBlack

Many people have been baffled by his pivot to far right conspiracy theories (specially pandering to certain demographics in the US), which are at odds with his previous politics.

It makes perfect sense for him to have done this as a strategic move, just as Andrew Tate did.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 17/09/2023 13:12

Mumsnet should delete your post where you compare Alan Turing to bloody Russell Brand. That is one of the most appalling things I’ve read on this website (and given that the entire site has been a bit of a shitshow since Friday night with misogyny and minimising sexual assault and rape abound, that is REALLY saying something). What the actual fuck. Shame on you @AngelinaBlack

newnamethanks · 17/09/2023 13:12

Absolutely disgusting to mention Alan Turing in the same sentence as RB, no comparison should be made. Bloody hell, no wonder women won't speak up when people are capable of such bizarre thinking.

I'm also against the Tory government. I have no idea why this makes him credible.

None of his claims are "undeniable", they just read like a reel from Fox news or from any other conspiracy theorists youtube channel.

I met RB years ago for work and we were one on one for a few hours. I have always maintained that he had an 'energy' (and I hate to use that word!) about him that I've never come across before. He felt oppressive and dark, he was condescending and rude, but in a way that made you a bit bashful. Very hard to explain when it's just a feeling. I've never felt like that about anyone else. I have absolutely no doubt that he is guilty of all accounts, and many more I imagine.

Cant stand him or his comedy, he has always given me the creeps.
It has been interesting you speak of his strange ‘energy’,as that was also mentioned by at least two of his alledged victims, that he went into an trance like, evil state of mind and his eyes seemingly glazed over and black. Very scary.

And his 'pivot to the right' is a very nice little earner, thank you very much, fangirls everywhere.
