To be tired of penis beakers?

Seriously!

Penis beaker has become the benchmark of being on Mumsnet for long enough to allow for a slightly risky post.

But it makes no sense... You could have just copied a well used phrase on the site having (blissfully) no idea about the thread.

Sorry. It's been a long week.

Does anyone remember when we were all calling spiders 'loofahs' because of someone's phobia and weaving wnaky baskets from lentils?

I was post-loofah but it was still a Thing in my early days so I just accepted it as yet more MN oddness and moved on 😄

but wnaky is something I accuse certain friends of being regularly, because they Know, and lentil-weaving is a term I think I've exported from MN into RL because it seems to work effectively - people sort of instinctively KNOW what lentil-weaving is.

Chris and her horses was a memorable series of threads for me.

Also the lady who's neighbour tried to steal her garden and trashed the listed building. Her Spanish grannie came and made sangria. Then the planning officers got involved and it all went v quiet. I often think of her and hope it was put right.

Sadly I think that one turned out to be not genuine, and the OP either got bored or didn’t know how to resolve the story.

I don't really understand how being here years somehow makes you an honest poster who isn't posting made up shit, incidentally I don't actually understand what difference it makes even if you did make things up? I could be posting about a fantasy life for years pretending to be a married woman with kids, when in actual fact my name is Keith who lives in a 1 bed flat alone but I'd like to be the person I pretend to be. I think the funny/entertaining threads are all made up and written by writers who are testing out plots for books or just having a good laugh. The way they reel you in just like a book and the level of description, it's v obvious (no less entertaining to read though).

But yes, good point. And since most posters desperate to impress a thread with their long-lived credentials tend to name-check the same things - 'I've been here ages, cubes of poo, your minge, penis beakers!' - what's stopping some newbie from copying that litany and using it themselves, anyway?

Anything to avoid the annual Woo thread (scary stories) usually around Halloween when someone remembers the story about a bouncing orb of light that chased someone near the Savernake forest and scared their dogs. Then ten people will ask for someone to repost it.

It goes on for ages, it’s not scary and it’s clearly fiction.
